Solflare
Solflare is a crypto wallet built for Solana. It is self-custody: you hold the keys, and Solflare is the app you use to store, send, swap and stake SOL and other Solana tokens. It launched in 2020 and calls itself the first Solana wallet. You can use it as a browser add-on, a web app, or an app on iPhone and Android.
Inside the app you can stake SOL with a validator you pick, trade with leverage, and buy tokens that track stocks. You can also sign with Solflare Shield, its own hardware wallet card. Solflare reports more than 4 million active users. It works on Solana only, which sets it apart from rivals such as Phantom.
How does the Solflare wallet work?
Solflare is a non-custodial wallet. That means your private key is made and kept on your own device. Solflare says it never stores private keys on its servers. Your wallet data is locked with your password or your fingerprint or face.
A new wallet comes with a 12-word recovery phrase. Anyone who has that phrase controls the wallet. Solflare's support team cannot get it back for you.
Before you sign, Solflare tests the transaction and shows what it would do to your balances. A feature called Solflare Guards scans each transaction as you make it. It blocks known scam sites and checks new tokens for red flags. Say a site claims to mint an NFT, but the transaction would hand over your tokens. Solflare should warn you before you approve it.
Swaps in the wallet go through Jupiter JUP$0.302-1.3%. Jupiter searches many Solana exchanges to find the best price, per Solflare's swap guide. Solflare's terms of service say it charges fees on swaps, but they do not give a rate. Check the quote screen for the amount you will get before you confirm.
Staking SOL in Solflare and the instant unstake fee
Solflare lets you stake SOL from the wallet to a validator you choose. Staking means you back a validator, one of the operators that run the network, and earn a share of its rewards. Your SOL stays under your control the whole time. Each stake account needs at least 1 SOL, per Solflare's unstaking guide.
The normal way to unstake is free but slow. Your SOL is freed at the end of the current epoch. The guide puts that at one to three days.
Solflare also offers Instant Unstake. It skips the wait for a fee of 0.5% to 3%, based on how much liquidity is on hand. On 100 SOL, that is between 0.5 and 3 SOL to save a couple of days. It only makes sense when you need the funds at once.
Solflare is the screen you stake through. The validator you pick decides your returns and your risk. Solflare's product page claims that 20% of all SOL is staked through it, so the validators it suggests get a lot of stake. You do not have to take its picks. You can compare validators by commission and uptime first.
Solflare Perps: leverage trading inside the wallet
Solflare Perps lets you bet on a price going up or down, with leverage, without leaving the wallet. It went live on 24 August 2026. Trades run on Phoenix Trade, an order book exchange on Solana.
A perp is a contract that tracks an asset's price and never expires. Leverage makes both gains and losses bigger. If the price moves against you far enough, your position is closed and you lose what you put up.
The Solflare Perps page lists more than 65 markets. They include SOL, BTC, ETH, stocks and commodities. You post USDC from your wallet to back a trade. Each position has its own pot of USDC, so one bad trade cannot drain the others.
Solflare states a trading fee of up to 0.085%, plus funding payments each hour. It pays the Solana network fees for you. Phoenix sets the top leverage for each market. Perps are blocked in the US, the UK and sanctioned countries.
At launch you could place market orders, with take-profit and stop-loss as options. You could hold one open position per market, per Solflare's getting-started guide. We covered the launch and its first week of volume.
xStocks, the Solflare Bridge and other extras
You can buy tokens that track stocks in Solflare through xStocks AAPLx$343.11+0.6%. These are tokens on Solana that follow shares such as Apple, Nvidia and Tesla.
In mid-September 2026 Solflare said it had added more than 600 xStocks, taking its list past 750. Later that month it said xStocks trades in the wallet carry no trading fee. Our report on the larger xStocks list has more.
Solflare Bridge moves coins from other chains into your Solana wallet. It launched in late July 2026. You get a fixed deposit address that you can use again and again. At launch it took deposits from eight chains, among them Bitcoin, Ethereum, Base and Tron, Crypto Briefing reported. A service called Aurora Intents does the routing.
The Bridge is not free. The stated fees at launch were 0.1% for stablecoins and 1% for other coins. We also wrote up how the Bridge works.
The wallet has two more extras. Magic is an AI helper that takes requests in plain words. Solflare Packs sells digital packs that reveal graded trading cards, with your pull history kept on Solana.
Solflare Shield hardware wallet: price and how it works
Solflare Shield is a hardware wallet the size of a bank card. Your private key sits in a secure chip on the card. To approve a transaction, you tap the card on your phone. It has no screen, no battery, no cable and no Bluetooth. Solflare showed it at Breakpoint in December 2025.
There are three versions, per Solflare's Shield post. Shield Origin costs $49 on offer, and the post gives $69 as the standard price. Shield Signature costs $59. Shield Unique has custom art and is listed at $59 on offer.
Solflare says the chip is rated EAL6+. That is a grade for chips built to resist tampering.
Shield has real limits. It works only with the Solflare app, and only on Solana. The card has no screen, so you read the details on your phone. If your phone were hacked, it could show you one thing while the card signs another. Hardware wallets with their own screen, such as Ledger, avoid that risk.
Solflare also says Shield is not made for dozens of small trades a day. If you lose the card, you can load your recovery phrase onto a new Shield. The card shows you that phrase only once, when you set it up, so write it down then.
Solflare Card: paused since July 2026
The Solflare Card is paused. It is a Mastercard debit card that spends USDC straight from your own wallet when you pay. We checked the Solflare Card page on 7 October 2026. It said cards were paused while Solflare moves to a new issuing partner. The page promised a return "in August" with Apple Pay, higher limits and cash back. Solflare's X posts from mid-September to early October 2026 did not announce a relaunch.
The card took USDC from your wallet at the moment you paid. No balance sat with the card issuer. So the pause stopped spending, but it did not lock up funds. Before the pause, Solflare said the card was open to people in the EEA and the UK, with other countries decided case by case.
Quick Login: signing in to Solflare with Google or Apple
Quick Login lets you create or open a Solflare wallet with a Google or Apple account. Solflare launched it on 28 September 2026. You do not have to use it. Per Solflare's Quick Login guide, you can still create or import a wallet with a recovery phrase. Google sign-in works on web, the browser add-on, iPhone and Android. Apple sign-in works on iPhone only.
Quick Login changes how your wallet is kept safe, so it helps to know how it works. Your recovery phrase is locked on your device before it is backed up. The key that unlocks it is split into three parts. One stays on your device. One goes to your Google Drive or iCloud. Solflare holds the third.
Solflare's guide to the design says no one party holds enough to open the backup. It also says wrong passcode guesses are slowed down.
The gain is clear. If you lose your phone, you no longer need to find a piece of paper. The cost is that your Google or Apple account is now part of your wallet's safety. If you use Quick Login, guard that account with a strong password and two-step sign-in.
Is Solflare safe? Audits, custody and what can go wrong
Solflare is a real wallet that has run since 2020, and you keep control of your funds. How safe it is depends mostly on you: how you store your recovery phrase, and what you sign. Solflare cannot freeze, move or restore your coins. Guards and the transaction test lower the odds of a scam getting through. They do not remove them.
The public audit record is thin. ConsenSys Diligence reviewed Solflare's MetaMask Snaps in August 2023. The Snap is the add-on that lets MetaMask users hold a Solana account. That review did not cover the browser add-on, the phone apps or the Shield card.
We could not find a published outside audit of the main wallet apps on Solflare's site. We also found no public record of a hack of Solflare's own wallet code.
Some risks come from the features around the wallet:
- Fake sites and fake downloads are a common way people lose funds. Get Solflare only from its own site or the app stores.
- Solflare Perps adds the risk of leverage. Your trades also depend on the Phoenix exchange working as it should.
- Instant Unstake can cost up to 3%.
- The card pause in July 2026 showed that features run with outside partners can stop at short notice.
- Solflare is run by a private company based in the British Virgin Islands. Its terms do not list fixed fee rates.
For larger sums, pair Solflare with a hardware wallet. This keeps the key off your phone and computer. Solflare works with Ledger, Keystone and its own Shield.
Who should use Solflare?
Solflare suits people who mainly use Solana and want to stake from a wallet they control. Say you hold SOL for the long term. You want to pick your own validator, split your stake, and see the details of each stake account. Solflare gives you more control over that than a typical exchange account does.
It also fits active Solana users outside the US and UK. They get perps, stock tokens and swaps in one app, with no need to move funds to an exchange.
Solflare is a weaker fit in three cases:
- You hold coins on Ethereum, Bitcoin or other chains and want one wallet for all of them. The Bridge brings coins into Solana, but Solflare does not manage them on their home chains.
- You live in the US or UK and want perps. Solflare Perps is blocked there.
- You wanted the wallet mainly for the debit card. Wait for a confirmed relaunch.
Solflare vs Phantom, Backpack and other alternatives
Solflare and Phantom CASH$1.000+0.0% are the two best-known Solana wallets. The choice mostly comes down to chains. Phantom's developer docs list Solana, Ethereum, Bitcoin, Base, Polygon and HyperEVM. Solflare works on Solana only. Both offer perps trading. Pick Phantom if you need several chains in one wallet. Pick Solflare if you stay on Solana and want fine control of your stake, or the Shield card.
Backpack calls itself an all-in-one crypto app. It offers futures, spot trading, lending and a wallet for Solana, Ethereum and Bitcoin. It suits traders who want a wallet tied to an exchange account. Solflare has no exchange attached, so your funds stay in your own hands.
For staking, the wallet and the validator are two separate choices. You can stake from Solflare to any validator. You can also hold a liquid staking token in any Solana wallet. That is a token you can trade that stands for staked SOL.
Solana Compass, which publishes this page, runs its own validator and liquid staking token. That means we compete for the same stake that Solflare's suggested validators receive. You can see how our option works on our staking page, and you can use it from Solflare or any other wallet.
Who is behind Solflare?
Solflare was started in 2020 by Filip Dragoslavić and Vidor Gencel. The two men lead the firm as joint chief executives, per its about page. Damjan Marković runs its day-to-day work as chief operating officer.
The wallet is run by a firm called Solrise Finance Ltd. It is based in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and it has a partner firm in Croatia.
Vidor Gencel has talked about the wallet's early days on the Solfate podcast. We wrote up that talk in Building the first wallet on Solana.
