The figure represents 38.1% of the $375.53 million earned by decentralized applications across all chains in August. The official Solana network account announced the monthly close on September 3: "Solana ranks #1 for app revenue in August with $143M. 38% of all onchain app revenue."

Solana
$143.23M
Hyperliquid L1
$55.6M
Ethereum
$47.1M
BNB Smart Chain
$34.7M

Hyperliquid L1 ranked second at $55.6 million, Ethereum third at $47.1 million, and BNB Smart Chain fourth at $34.7 million, all per DeFiLlama. Solana's August total exceeded those three combined by roughly $6 million, about what Jupiter JUP$0.228+8.6% generated across the full month.

August App Revenue: How $143M Breaks Down Across Six Verticals

DeFiLlama's revenue metric captures fees that protocols retain, not gross transaction costs paid to validators or liquidity providers, and not Jito tips or MEV extraction. By that measure, six Solana applications each exceeded $6 million in August, spanning distinct product categories:

  • Pump.fun: ~$58.2M (memecoin launchpad)
  • Axiom: ~$24M (token trading terminal)
  • FOMO: ~$14.6M (social trading app)
  • Collector Crypt: ~$9.7M (NFT marketplace)
  • Phantom CASH$1.000+0.0%: ~$6.6M (non-custodial wallet)
  • Jupiter: ~$6.2M (DEX aggregator)

Those six together account for roughly $119 million of the $143.23 million total, per DeFiLlama, with the remainder distributed across the broader app stack. The breadth is as significant as the number itself. Each named vertical generates what several competing chains earn in aggregate from their entire application layer. No single product category accounts for the full lead.

Trading Terminals and Social Apps: Fastest-Growing Segment

The sharpest growth in August came from trading terminals and social trading applications. As we covered in August, FOMO surpassed Hyperliquid in single-day protocol revenue on August 16, a pattern that had appeared twice in the prior week. Its $14.6 million full-month figure compares to $7.24 million across the entirety of Q2 2026, per DeFiLlama, more than doubling month-over-month as the app captured 46% of Solana trading platform spot volume in late August.

Axiom contributed $24 million despite ceding daily volume share to FOMO during the month. Combined, the two trading terminal products generated roughly $38.6 million in retained protocol revenue, approaching Ethereum's $47.1 million all-chain total, from two Solana-native applications.

The trading activity underlying those figures is visible in Solana Compass DEX analytics. Solana DEX trading volume climbed across the month, rising from $32.6 billion in the second week of August to $50.7 billion in the final week, per Solana Compass data. The acceleration in late August tracks the period in which FOMO and Axiom were each posting weekly revenue records as their routing captured a growing share of swap activity.

Phantom's $6.6 million reflects a category that barely exists at scale on other chains: wallet-level swap fees. At Solana's transaction costs, in-wallet token swaps become routine behavior rather than a deliberate decision. A wallet accumulating $6.6 million in protocol revenue in a single month becomes possible when those economics hold for tens of millions of users.

What DeFiLlama's Protocol Revenue Includes, and What It Excludes

The $143.23 million does not capture validator earnings. DeFiLlama's protocol revenue metric covers application-layer economics: the fee a launchpad charges to create a token, the percentage a trading terminal takes on a swap, the interface fee a wallet collects. Validator priority fees, base transaction costs, and Jito MEV tips flow to a different part of the stack and are measured separately.

This distinction is relevant because August 2026 data appears in different contexts with different figures. A 21shares analysis of Solana's H1 2026 network revenue reported a sharp decline in gross validator fee revenue over the same period, a different measurement of a different economic layer. Protocol revenue and network fee revenue are not interchangeable; they describe what application builders capture versus what consensus-layer participants earn.

Nine Consecutive Quarterly Leads, With Q3 2026 Running Ahead of Q2's Pace

Solana dApps generated $257 million in Q2 2026, capturing 41% of total Web3 dApp revenue for the quarter, the ninth consecutive period in which Solana led all blockchains in this metric per DeFiLlama. August's $143.23 million as a standalone month is above Q2's average of roughly $85.7 million per month, indicating Q3 2026 is running ahead of Q2's pace.

The structural condition enabling both the quarterly streak and August's result is compute capacity. SIMD-0286 raised Solana's block compute limit from 60 million to 100 million CUs at the end of July, expanding throughput that applications had already begun filling. The same August period produced 5.2 billion non-vote transactions, the first time any single network exceeded all other L1s and L2s combined in a monthly count. Revenue and transaction volume both closed at records in the same period.

A multi-year revenue streak is durable only when the contributor base is diversified. A ranking held by one application is as fragile as that application's own trajectory. August's breakdown, with a launchpad, trading terminal, social trading app, NFT marketplace, wallet, and DEX aggregator each crossing $6 million independently, describes something structurally different: an application layer where distinct user behaviors are each generating material economic activity on their own.
