About

BlackRock

BlackRock is the world's largest asset manager, overseeing more than $10 trillion in assets across equity, fixed income, multi-asset, and alternatives strategies. Founded in 1988, the firm has built its reputation on risk management and fiduciary investment discipline. Since 2024, BlackRock has moved to bring institutional-grade financial products onto public blockchains — and Solana has become one of its primary deployment targets.

BUIDL: The Flagship Tokenized Money Market Fund

BlackRock's most prominent on-chain product is the BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund, known by its ticker BUIDL. Launched in March 2024 on Ethereum in partnership with [[PROJECT:718]], BUIDL is a tokenized money market fund that holds cash, short-term U.S. Treasury securities, and repurchase agreements. It is pegged to one U.S. dollar per token and distributes yield to holders through daily dividends paid monthly.

What distinguishes BUIDL from traditional money market funds is settlement and access. Conventional money market funds operate during business hours and settle on a T+1 or T+2 basis. BUIDL, by contrast, operates on blockchain rails 24 hours a day, seven days a week, enabling near-instantaneous settlement at any time. As Securitize COO Michael Sonnenshein stated at the time of the Solana launch, the structure "leapfrogs some of the deficiencies that money markets may have in their traditional formats."

The fund grew rapidly after launch. By July 2024 it had crossed $500 million in assets under management. By March 2025 it reached $1 billion, and $700 million in new inflows arrived in a single 11-day window shortly thereafter, driving AUM to $1.7 billion at the moment of the Solana expansion announcement. As of mid-2026, BUIDL manages over $2.6 billion — commanding approximately 34% market share among tokenized U.S. Treasury funds, ahead of competitors including Hashnote, Franklin Templeton, and Ondo.

BUIDL Expands to Solana

Solana became the seventh blockchain to host BUIDL, announced on March 25, 2025. The preceding six chains were Ethereum, Polygon, Aptos, Arbitrum, Avalanche, and Optimism. Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo stated that "expanding BUIDL to Solana — a blockchain known for its speed, scalability, and cost efficiency — is a natural next step." For financial applications requiring high-frequency settlement and low transaction costs, Solana's architecture offers practical advantages over chains with higher fees and slower throughput.

Access to BUIDL on Solana, as on other supported chains, is restricted to institutional investors. Shares are held in wallets that must be whitelisted through Securitize's permissioned identity verification system. While the underlying blockchain is public and permissionless, share transfers are subject to regulatory controls: Securitize, acting as transfer agent, can restrict transfers, freeze accounts, or revoke and reissue tokenized shares as required by regulation.

BRSRV: A Stablecoin Reserve Vehicle for the GENIUS Act Era

In August 2026, BlackRock filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to issue tokenized fund shares of a second vehicle on Solana: the BlackRock Daily Reinvestment Stablecoin Reserve Vehicle (BRSRV). The SEC filing was submitted on August 3, 2026, with [[PROJECT:718]] again serving as transfer agent.

BRSRV is structured explicitly for the post-GENIUS Act regulatory environment. The GENIUS Act established a federal framework for payment stablecoins in the United States, including requirements governing how issuers must hold reserves. BRSRV is designed to qualify as an eligible reserve asset under that framework, meaning regulated stablecoin issuers can hold BRSRV shares as backing for their liabilities. The fund invests entirely in cash, short-term U.S. Treasuries, and overnight Treasury-backed repurchase agreements — a similarly conservative portfolio to BUIDL — and holds no cryptocurrency.

Unlike BUIDL, BRSRV features daily dividend reinvestment rather than monthly payouts. Its shares are deployed across Ethereum, Solana, and Tempo, making Solana a co-primary chain from inception rather than a later addition. The minimum initial investment is $3 million, and participation is limited to approved institutional investors whose wallets have been verified and whitelisted. The prospectus states: "The Fund issues OnChain Shares through a permissioned system that operates in connection with one or more public, permissionless blockchains."

Alongside BRSRV, BlackRock also issued on-chain tokenized shares of the BlackRock Select Treasury-Based Liquidity Fund (BSTBL), an existing money market fund deployed on Ethereum with BNY Mellon as transfer agent. Together, BRSRV and BSTBL represent a push to bring institutional cash management infrastructure onto public blockchains within a regulated, compliance-native structure.

BlackRock's Broader Digital Asset Strategy

BlackRock's Solana activity sits within a wider institutional digital asset strategy. The firm launched the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) following SEC approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, and IBIT quickly became the largest spot Bitcoin ETF by assets. BlackRock also launched the iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) after spot Ethereum ETFs received approval, and in June 2026 introduced the iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF (BITA), an options-based product generating yield through covered call strategies on Bitcoin holdings. In its 2026 thematic outlook, BlackRock named crypto and tokenization as key themes driving markets — a signal from an institution managing assets at this scale that blockchain-based financial infrastructure is a structural shift rather than a speculative trend.

CEO Larry Fink has separately outlined plans to bring tokenized versions of BlackRock's iShares ETF franchise — a portfolio of conventional stocks and bonds valued in the trillions — onto blockchain rails over time. BUIDL and BRSRV represent the first concrete institutional products in that broader roadmap.

Role in the Solana Ecosystem

BlackRock's presence on Solana is significant for the network's positioning as a venue for real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Its choice of Solana for both BUIDL and BRSRV — two regulated financial products from an institution operating at the scale BlackRock does — provides direct validation of the chain's technical suitability for institutional finance applications. For buyers of tokenized Treasuries and stablecoin reserve products, the combination of BlackRock's credit standing, Securitize's transfer agent infrastructure, and Solana's settlement characteristics creates a product architecture suited to institutional requirements.

BlackRock does not operate validator infrastructure on Solana and is not a DeFi protocol. Its footprint on the network is entirely on the asset issuance side: tokenized shares of regulated funds, accessible only to verified institutional investors through a permissioned wallet layer sitting on top of the public chain.
