Vault

The Baxus Vault provides a safe, temperature-controlled storage solution for valuable bottles, allowing collectors to manage their assets. Each bottle is tokenized as an NFT, linking ownership and pricing data directly to the blockchain, making it easy for users to track and trade their collections efficiently.

Why Businesses Are Building On Solana | Baxus, Tzvi Wiesel

The Genesis of Baxus ... Baxus, a groundbreaking platform built on the Solana blockchain, is revolutionizing the way rare wines and spirits are traded, authenticated, and valued.

About

Baxus

BAXUS is a peer-to-peer marketplace built on Solana for buying, selling, trading, and storing rare and collectible spirits and wines. Each physical bottle is authenticated, held in a climate-controlled vault, and paired with a Solana-based NFT that represents verifiable ownership — letting collectors trade assets with the certainty of blockchain settlement while the actual liquid stays safely warehoused. The platform raised a $5 million seed round in 2024 led by Multicoin Capital and Solana Ventures, and has facilitated over $20 million in trades.

The Problem With Rare Spirits Markets

The global luxury wine and spirits market is large — projected to approach $470 billion by the early 2030s — but it operates with the inefficiency of a trade still conducted through personal networks, auction houses, and an opaque three-tier distribution system. Fraud is a persistent risk on rare bottles. Provenance is difficult to verify. And genuine liquidity is scarce: a collector who wants to sell a $5,000 whisky often has no fast, low-friction venue to do so. BAXUS was founded in 2021 by Tzvi Wiesel and Todd Wiesel with the thesis that blockchain-backed ownership records and professional vaulting could solve all three problems at once.

How It Works

The flow has three stages. First, a seller ships their bottles to a BAXUS Vault — temperature-controlled, insured, and monitored around the clock. The BAXUS team authenticates each submission and performs a three-dimensional scan of the bottle. Second, each verified bottle is paired with an NFT minted on Solana that stores provenance metadata, pricing history, and a permanent ownership record. That token is tradeable on the BAXUS marketplace or on any Solana-compatible secondary venue. Third, when a buyer decides to take physical possession, they redeem the token: the NFT is voided and removed from circulation, and the bottle ships out.

Settlement on the marketplace can happen in credit card, ACH, wire transfer, or USDC. Coinflow handles fiat on- and off-ramp for buyers who want to pay in crypto. The platform charges a 10% commission on completed sales and collects ongoing storage fees for assets that remain in the vault.

Designed for Collectors, Not Crypto-Natives

One of BAXUS's deliberate design choices is to make the blockchain layer invisible to users who do not want to engage with it. Wallets are created and managed behind the scenes; users sign in with an email address. Listings look like any premium marketplace page, showing bottle images, tasting notes, pricing data, and a portfolio dashboard with real-time collection valuations. A mobile application available on iOS, Android, and the Solana Mobile dApp Store (added in December 2025) lets users scan bottle barcodes in retail settings to log prices and earn points — building a community-sourced pricing database that feeds into the analytics layer.

Recent product additions extend the marketplace's functionality. An Offers feature, launched in April 2026, lets buyers submit bids below the listed ask price, adding a negotiation layer intended to unlock liquidity on bottles whose owners have not yet found their clearing price. A Guess the Price mechanic supports price discovery on newly vaulted assets, creating engagement around bottles where market consensus is still forming.

BAXUS 2.0: Barrel Tokenization

At Solana Breakpoint 2025, BAXUS announced what it calls its second chapter: barrel tokenization at institutional scale. The platform revealed partnerships with Diageo, Cutter Group, and Bardstown Bourbon Company to bring barrel inventories representing tens of billions of dollars in assets onto Solana as tokenized real-world assets. Where the original BAXUS model focuses on individual bottle trading, BAXUS 2.0 extends the same NFT-backed ownership framework to entire barrels — letting investors and distilleries trade fractional or whole interests in spirits aging in warehouses, years before those barrels become finished product. Decentralized pricing for this barrel layer was announced as available exclusively through the Solana Seeker phone.

This pivot positions BAXUS not just as a collector marketplace but as infrastructure for a new category of real-world asset finance, where whiskey maturation timelines become investable positions with on-chain settlement. You can read more about this evolution in the Breakpoint 25 talk BAXUS 2.0: Real-World Applications, Not Just Real-World Assets.

Team and Funding

BAXUS was co-founded by Tzvi Wiesel (CEO), Carrie Kellar (CTO), and Finian Sedgwick (COO), with additional co-founder Todd Wiesel. The company is headquartered in Woodland Park, New Jersey. In May 2024 it closed a $5 million seed round led by Multicoin Capital, with participation from Solana Ventures, Narwhal Ventures, and FJ Labs. Coverage at the time of the raise noted the platform had processed around $8 million in transactions since its beta launch; by late 2025 that figure had grown beyond $20 million.

Why Solana

Solana's combination of fast finality and low per-transaction costs makes it practical to mint and transfer ownership tokens on every trade without fees eating into margins on lower-priced bottles. The Solana Mobile ecosystem also gave BAXUS a native fit: the dApp Store integration and the Seeker phone tie-in for the barrel pricing layer both exploit infrastructure that does not exist on other chains. Tzvi Wiesel has discussed the Solana fit directly in two Lightspeed podcast appearances covered on Compass — Why Businesses Are Building On Solana (May 2024) and How Baxus Is Bringing Whiskey Onchain (March 2025) — emphasizing instant settlement and proof of presence as capabilities unavailable in traditional collectibles infrastructure.

As of September 2026 the marketplace is active, the social channels are posting daily listings, and the barrel tokenization partnerships place BAXUS among the higher-profile real-world asset experiments running on Solana.
