About

Taxbit

TaxBit is a compliance infrastructure company for the digital economy, founded in 2018 by CPAs and tax attorneys with the goal of bringing professional-grade tax reporting to digital asset markets. The platform converts raw transaction data into accurate tax filings and regulatory reports across more than 70 jurisdictions, serving a client base that spans Fortune 500 enterprises, major cryptocurrency exchanges, and government agencies.

What TaxBit Does

At its core, TaxBit automates the compliance workflows that digital asset platforms are legally required to perform: collecting customer tax information, calculating gains and losses, generating required forms, and filing with the relevant authorities. Rather than building bespoke solutions for each regulatory regime, TaxBit provides a single platform that handles the full compliance stack from user onboarding and KYC documentation through final regulatory submissions.

The company's reach is substantial. TaxBit has processed more than 100 million tax forms for end users and reconciled over 500 billion in digital asset transactions across 140 countries. Clients include PayPal, Binance, OKX, Google, KPMG, and Bybit, and TaxBit holds a software partnership with the IRS.

Product Suite

TaxBit organizes its offerings into three primary areas.

Enterprise Tax Solutions cover US information reporting obligations, including Form W-9/W-8, 1099 series forms, Form 1042-S for non-US persons, and the newly introduced Form 1099-DA for digital asset proceeds. The platform handles cost basis tracking, gain/loss calculations, and wash sale analysis that brokers and exchanges must perform before issuing customer statements and IRS filings. SOL and other Solana-based tokens are covered under the 1099-DA framework, making TaxBit directly relevant to exchanges and custodians holding Solana assets.

CARF/DAC8 Compliance is the company's most significant recent expansion. In March 2025, TaxBit announced a platform extension to support the OECD's Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) and the EU's DAC8 directive, both of which took effect January 1, 2026. The solution enables Reporting Crypto-Asset Service Providers across 65 jurisdictions to automate their cross-border reporting obligations through a single platform. Core components include a Digital Self-Certification SDK for tax residency verification at onboarding, an Automated Reporting Engine that generates and submits CARF/DAC8 XML reports end-to-end, and a Real-Time Insights Dashboard for monitoring compliance status and identifying gaps. TaxBit participates in OECD working groups addressing reporting schema harmonization, giving it early visibility into regulatory changes.

Government Solutions serve tax authorities and law enforcement agencies directly, providing tools for financial investigations and digital asset tracking. This line gained a notable hire in October 2025 when Colby Mangels, a former OECD advisor, joined as Global Head of Government Solutions, signaling TaxBit's intent to deepen its relationships with regulatory bodies.

The platform also covers marketplace and gig economy reporting under DAC7, the EU's Digital Platform Income directive, and the UK SERR equivalent, a product line TaxBit extended with new tools for gig worker tax compliance in October 2025.

Market Position and Recent Momentum

TaxBit has operated across multiple market cycles since 2018, a period that saw digital asset tax compliance evolve from voluntary to mandatory in most major jurisdictions. That longevity has translated into scale advantages: the platform's SOC II certification, GDPR-aligned data handling, and integration depth with major exchanges are difficult for newer entrants to replicate quickly.

Recent recognition includes placement on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 for North American growth in November 2025, the Forbes FinTech 50, and a 2025 Digital Banker award for tax and compliance automation technology.

On the operational side, TaxBit opened a San Francisco office in December 2025 and added Robin Melnick as Chief Revenue Officer the same month. The Bybit integration announced in November 2025 brought TaxBit's compliance infrastructure to Bybit's global and EU user base, adding another major exchange to a client list that already covered several of the industry's largest platforms.

Regulatory Context and Solana Relevance

The compliance window that TaxBit serves tightened significantly with the IRS finalization of digital asset broker regulations, which made Form 1099-DA mandatory for custodial brokers beginning with the 2025 tax year. Platforms that custody or broker Solana tokens, including SOL, SPL tokens, and Solana-based stablecoins, fall within scope of these rules and need automated cost basis engines to meet reporting deadlines.

CARF and DAC8 impose parallel obligations internationally. Any exchange that handles Solana-based assets and operates in a CARF-participating jurisdiction, currently 65 countries including the entire EU, must implement customer due diligence and automated reporting infrastructure by 2026. TaxBit's integrated platform addresses both the US and international compliance tracks simultaneously, removing the need for platforms to build or stitch together separate solutions per regime.

The company's long-term positioning centers on the argument that compliance infrastructure is becoming a competitive input, not merely a cost. Platforms that can demonstrate clean reporting histories and real-time compliance posture will face fewer regulatory obstacles to expansion, and enterprises that integrate compliance from the start reduce the remediation costs that have accompanied enforcement actions across the industry.

TaxBit remains one of the few compliance infrastructure vendors operating at the intersection of enterprise scale, multi-jurisdiction coverage, and direct government relationships, a combination that becomes more valuable as regulators across the US, EU, and OECD-member countries intensify their focus on digital asset reporting.
