Chainalysis Platform

The Chainalysis Platform provides comprehensive blockchain analytics for transaction monitoring, risk management, and investigations. The system connects cryptocurrency activity to real-world entities through advanced data processing and visualization tools. Government agencies, financial institutions, and cryptocurrency businesses use this platform to detect financial crime, ensure compliance, and investigate illicit activity.

Chainalysis

Chainalysis is the leading blockchain intelligence platform, combining on-chain data with AI-powered analytics to help governments, financial institutions, and crypto businesses investigate illicit activity, enforce compliance, and manage risk across the digital asset ecosystem. Founded in 2014, the New York-headquartered company has grown into one of the most influential infrastructure providers in the global crypto industry, serving more than 1,500 customers across over 70 countries with tools that trace funds, screen wallets, and monitor transactions in real time.

Origins and Mission

Chainalysis was co-founded in 2014 by Michael Gronager, Jan Møller, and Jonathan Levin, emerging from early efforts to investigate the catastrophic Mt. Gox bitcoin exchange hack. That origin gave the company both its technical foundation and its defining mission: building trust in blockchains among people, businesses, and governments. Jonathan Levin, an economist who went on to testify before the U.S. Congress on national security and blockchain technology, now leads the company as CEO.

The mission is straightforward but consequential. As cryptocurrency has grown from a niche experiment into a multi-trillion-dollar financial layer, the need to distinguish legitimate activity from illicit flows has become critical for law enforcement agencies, regulated exchanges, and mainstream financial institutions looking to participate without legal exposure.

Core Products

Chainalysis organizes its product suite around three pillars: investigations, compliance, and security.

Reactor is the platform's flagship investigation tool. It visualizes transaction flows across blockchains, allowing analysts to trace the movement of funds between addresses and entities — mapping criminal networks, following stolen assets, or documenting payment chains for court proceedings. Reactor has been tested under the Daubert standard in U.S. federal court, a stringent admissibility threshold that makes Chainalysis data usable as forensic evidence.

KYT (Know Your Transaction) provides real-time transaction monitoring for exchanges, banks, and payment processors. It generates risk-based alerts on counterparties and transactions, giving compliance teams continuous visibility into high-risk activity flowing through their platforms. Nine of the ten largest global crypto exchanges rely on KYT as part of their compliance infrastructure.

Address Screening allows businesses to assess wallet risk before engagement — checking whether a counterparty address is associated with sanctions, ransomware, darknet markets, or other high-risk categories. A companion product, Wallet Scan, is designed for law enforcement: it checks wallet recovery seeds against known illicit activity to support asset seizure.

Beyond these core tools, Chainalysis has expanded into adjacent risk domains. Alterya delivers AI-powered fraud prevention. Hexagate focuses on web3 security, monitoring smart contracts and protocols for exploits and hacks before they cause irreversible losses.

Customer Base and Real-World Impact

The company's customers span nine major industry verticals: law enforcement and national security agencies, centralized crypto exchanges, traditional financial institutions, government regulators and tax agencies, DeFi protocols, cybersecurity firms, and consumer brands. More than 50 regulators worldwide rely on Chainalysis intelligence for oversight and enforcement.

The cumulative impact of the platform is measurable. More than $34 billion in illicit funds have been seized, frozen, or recovered using Chainalysis data — encompassing Silk Road assets, North Korean state-sponsored hacking proceeds, ransomware payments, and more. Among the most notable cases: tracing $100 million stolen in the Harmony bridge hack to North Korean actors, supporting the Silk Road takedown that recovered over $1 billion in Bitcoin, and aiding the shutdown of a major child sexual abuse material website in 2019.

Funding and Scale

Chainalysis has raised substantial venture capital from a roster that includes Paradigm, Benchmark, Accel, Ribbit Capital, Addition, GIC, and Coatue. The company reached an $8.6 billion valuation as of September 2022, making it one of the most highly valued companies in the compliance infrastructure space. Chainalysis employed approximately 900 people as of 2023 and has expanded internationally, opening a regional headquarters in Dubai in May 2024 to serve the growing Middle East and North Africa market. The company has received recognition including placement on the Fortune Crypto 100 (2026), TIME's 100 Most Influential Companies, and Forbes Blockchain 50.

Solana Integration

Chainalysis has made Solana a specific engineering priority, developing purpose-built infrastructure for the network across multiple years.

In 2023, the company's research and development team built a dedicated Solana knowledge graph — a data structure that accounts for Solana's unique account model, ownership semantics, and collateral treatment. This ensures that investigations and compliance workflows function accurately on Solana's high-throughput architecture rather than simply applying analysis frameworks built for Ethereum's account model.

Building on that foundation, Chainalysis became the first company in its category to automatically support all fungible tokens on Solana across its full product suite. This encompasses over 10 million tokens — including SPL tokens and the Token 2022 standard — and addresses Solana's distinctive dynamic: tens of thousands of tokens launch on the network daily. Previously, exchange compliance teams and investigators faced gaps when dealing with newer or lower-cap tokens. Automatic token support closes that gap, extending KYT monitoring, Address Screening, and Reactor tracing to the full Solana token universe.

The most recent milestone in Chainalysis's Solana engagement is a compliance partnership with Solana Developer Platform (SDP), the institutional development environment for builders deploying financial products on Solana. Major institutions including Mastercard, Worldpay, and Western Union are already active on SDP for stablecoin settlement, merchant payments, and cross-border transfer applications. Through the integration, developers can embed Chainalysis KYT directly into stablecoin and tokenized deposit flows — receiving institutional-grade risk-based alerting and counterparty screening without building compliance infrastructure from scratch.

AI Agents and Evolving Capabilities

At its 2026 Links conference, Chainalysis introduced blockchain intelligence agents — the next generation of its analytics platform, built on top of billions of screened transactions and over ten million investigations. These AI agents compress multi-chain, multi-entity investigation workflows from hours into minutes, automate alert enrichment for compliance teams, and generate on-demand summary reports for law enforcement. The company frames this as the evolution of its intelligence platform: AI layered on top of more than a decade of curated blockchain data.

Position in the Industry

Chainalysis occupies a unique structural position in the crypto ecosystem. It is neither a protocol nor an exchange, but the intelligence layer that sits underneath both — and increasingly, underneath traditional finance as well. Its tools are used by governments to enforce sanctions and prosecute criminals, by exchanges to maintain regulatory licenses, and by DeFi protocols to screen counterparties and protect treasuries. As Solana continues to grow as a venue for institutional stablecoin flows, tokenized assets, and enterprise payment products, Chainalysis's deepening presence on the network positions it as critical compliance infrastructure for the next generation of on-chain financial applications.
