About

SolanaFM

SolanaFM is a Solana blockchain explorer and developer data platform that makes on-chain activity readable for both end users and builders. Rather than presenting raw transaction logs, SolanaFM decodes program instructions into human-readable summaries, renders transaction flows as visual diagrams, and exposes the full depth of Solana's account model through a clean, navigable interface. Launched in March 2021, it grew to become the second-largest explorer on Solana before being acquired by Jupiter, the leading Solana DEX aggregator, in September 2024.

The Problem It Solves

Solana transactions are structurally complex. A single swap, NFT mint, or staking operation can involve dozens of program invocations, inner instructions, and cross-program calls stacked in ways that basic explorers render as an undifferentiated list. SolanaFM was built to cut through that noise. Its transaction diagrams and call-stack visualizations map out exactly what happened and in what order, making it practical to debug smart contract interactions, verify token transfers, and understand DeFi activity without requiring deep technical expertise.

Core Mechanism

At its core, SolanaFM is an indexed read layer over the Solana blockchain. The platform continuously indexes transactions, accounts, tokens, and blocks, then applies a tagging and decoding layer to label known programs, identify token types, and classify action categories. This tagged data powers both the visual explorer interface and a public API suite that developers can query directly.

The explorer handles all major Solana account types: native SOL accounts, SPL token accounts, NFT holdings, compressed NFTs (cNFTs), and program-owned accounts. It resolves Solana Name Service (SNS) domains via Bonfida, so addresses can be looked up by human-readable names where registered.

Key Features

Transaction visualization: SolanaFM renders transaction call stacks as flow diagrams rather than flat instruction lists. This makes complex DeFi interactions — multi-hop swaps, liquidity provision, cross-program composability — visually traceable.

Readable transaction summaries: Common transaction types are decoded into plain-language descriptions, lowering the barrier for non-technical users who need to verify what a wallet or protocol did.

True TPS metrics: The platform reports accurate transaction-per-second figures for the Solana network, distinguishing vote transactions from non-vote activity to give a realistic picture of network throughput.

Snap: A utility that allows users to capture formatted screenshots of account details for easy sharing and record-keeping — useful for support, audits, and social sharing of on-chain activity.

Account history and exports: Users can browse full transaction histories for any account and export transfer records as CSV files, supporting accounting, compliance, and research workflows.

Network statistics: SolanaFM tracks daily network transaction fees, historical fee data, and broader network health metrics.

SNS domain resolution: The explorer integrates Solana Name Service lookups, displaying registered domains and subdomains alongside wallet addresses.

Developer Platform and API

SolanaFM operates a public developer hub at docs.solana.fm. The API suite that powers the explorer is available to third-party developers and covers:

  • Account endpoints: Retrieve tagged account data, transaction histories, token and NFT holdings, daily fee summaries, and ownership records across single or batched addresses.
  • Block endpoints: Paginated block retrieval and detailed per-block data.
  • Token endpoints: Paginated token lists, batch token lookups, on-chain supply data, metadata, and token account queries by owner or mint.
  • Transaction and transfer endpoints: Finalized transaction retrieval, transfer records with action categorization, and batch lookups by transaction hash.
  • Domain endpoints: SNS domain and subdomain queries, favorite domain lookups, and subdomain ownership across multiple accounts.
  • Network metrics endpoints: Daily and historical transaction fee data at the network level.

The documentation includes an OpenAPI specification and a structured llms.txt index designed for AI agent consumption, reflecting SolanaFM's positioning as infrastructure for programmatic access to Solana data — not just a human-facing explorer. A tiered rate-limiting structure applies to API access.

Supported Assets

SolanaFM covers the full range of Solana-native assets: SOL, all SPL tokens, NFTs, compressed NFTs, and program accounts. Token metadata and on-chain supply data are available for tokens indexed by the platform. There is no restriction to a curated token list; the explorer indexes the chain broadly.

Funding and Team

SolanaFM was founded in March 2021 and raised a 4.5 million USD seed round in 2022 led by SBI Group's Digital Asset Opportunity Fund. Etherscan, the dominant Ethereum block explorer, participated in a funding round — an endorsement that underscored SolanaFM's technical credibility within the broader blockchain infrastructure space. Coinhako, a Singapore-based digital asset exchange, also backed the project.

The team described its mission as making Solana transactions legible — "chewing glass" in Jupiter's characterization — a reference to the difficulty of building reliable indexing infrastructure on a high-throughput, frequently-evolving chain.

Jupiter Acquisition

In September 2024, Jupiter announced it had acquired SolanaFM alongside Coinhall at Solana Breakpoint 2024. Jupiter described the acquisition as a strategic move to strengthen its data and infrastructure capabilities, noting that SolanaFM's indexing and historical data layer would enhance Jupiter's broader platform. At the time of the announcement, SolanaFM was described as the second-largest Solana explorer by usage.

Jupiter's stated rationale: leveraging SolanaFM's world-class data infrastructure to deepen the data layer underpinning its swap aggregator, perpetuals platform, and developer tooling. The explorer has continued to operate under the SolanaFM brand post-acquisition.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Solana's throughput and its composable program architecture create a persistent demand for high-quality exploration and indexing tools. SolanaFM occupies a distinct niche in that landscape by prioritizing transaction readability and developer data access over raw speed metrics or wallet management features.

Its acquisition by Jupiter, Solana's largest DEX aggregator by volume, integrates SolanaFM into one of the ecosystem's core infrastructure stacks. Jupiter handles enormous transaction volume and relies on accurate, low-latency on-chain data for routing, analytics, and user-facing product features. SolanaFM's indexed data layer serves that need while remaining available to independent developers and end users through the public explorer and API.

For developers building on Solana who need historical transaction data, account analytics, or token metadata at scale, SolanaFM's API provides a structured alternative to running custom indexers. For users and researchers who need to understand what happened in a specific transaction, the visual explorer remains one of the clearer tools available on the network.
