Binance
Binance is the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, founded in June 2017. It offers spot, margin, futures, and options markets across hundreds of cryptocurrency pairs, alongside earning products, P2P trading, and institutional custody through Ceffu. Within the Solana ecosystem, Binance operates a native liquid staking program centered on Binance Staked SOL (BNSOL), a transferable token that represents a user's staked SOL plus all accumulated network rewards.
Core Mechanism: BNSOL Liquid Staking
BNSOL is built on the audited Solana Stake Pool Program developed by Solana Labs. When a user stakes SOL through Binance's Solana staking interface, they receive BNSOL in return — a liquid receipt token that appreciates against SOL as staking rewards accumulate. Rather than maintaining a 1:1 ratio, the BNSOL conversion rate updates daily and at each Solana epoch. For reference, the rate grew from 1 BNSOL = 1.01004105 SOL in September 2024 to 1 BNSOL = 1.01980774 SOL by December 2024, reflecting compounding network rewards.
Staking rewards originate directly from the Solana network on-chain staking mechanism and are distributed to BNSOL holders at the end of each Solana epoch, which occurs approximately every two to three days. The APR is dynamic and follows network-wide staking participation, validator performance, and total SOL staked across the Solana network.
Product History and Launch
Binance announced its Solana staking product in August 2024, with on-chain staking reward accrual beginning August 26, 2024 at epoch 661 on the Solana mainnet. The product launched publicly in September 2024. BNSOL was subsequently listed on secondary markets, with CoinMarketCap recording its listing in November 2024. The Binance validator currently ranks among the top validators on the Solana network by staked assets.
Fees and Minimum Requirements
The minimum amount to stake through Binance Solana staking is 0.01 SOL. Binance charges a 0% commission fee on staking rewards, distributing the full on-chain APR to BNSOL holders each epoch. Network fees for staking on Binance are free, in contrast to native Solana staking which requires users to pay low on-chain transaction fees directly.
Redemption Options
BNSOL holders have two redemption paths. Standard redemption converts BNSOL back to SOL after a waiting period tied to the Solana unbonding process. Market redemption allows users to immediately sell BNSOL on spot markets without waiting for the unbonding period, trading liquidity for price. Binance absorbs any slashing losses that may occur through its validator operations, providing an additional layer of protection for stakers.
Utility Across Binance Products and DeFi
BNSOL is integrated across multiple Binance product lines. It can be used as collateral for Binance Loans, as portfolio margin for derivatives trading, and is available for spot trading against SOL and other assets. Binance has positioned BNSOL for use within DeFi protocols for additional yield strategies, including liquidity provision, lending, and borrowing, though specific third-party protocol integrations were not enumerated in official documentation at launch.
Validator Infrastructure
Binance operates Binance-managed validator nodes with 24/7 monitoring to support BNSOL staking. The underlying Solana Stake Pool Program has been audited. Binance's validator operations handle the technical complexity of Solana staking on behalf of retail and institutional users, removing the need for users to select individual validators or manage stake accounts directly.
Exchange Context and Ecosystem Position
Beyond Solana staking, Binance lists SOL and a broad range of Solana-based tokens for spot and futures trading. Binance Earn offers yield products on over 180 cryptocurrencies. Institutional users can access Solana through Ceffu, Binance's institutional custody and staking arm, which offers BNSOL staking with proof-of-reserves transparency on-chain.
Binance's entry into Solana liquid staking positions it alongside protocol-native providers such as Jito and Marinade, but with the distribution advantage of being embedded within the world's largest exchange platform.
