Solsniffer

Solsniffer is a Solana-native token security scanner and analytics platform that assigns every SPL token a numerical risk score — the Snifscore — so traders and developers can assess safety at a glance before putting capital to work. It launched in February 2024, positioning itself as the first token sniffer built specifically for Solana rather than adapted from EVM tooling, and addresses a concrete problem: Solana's high-speed, low-cost environment made it easy for bad actors to launch rugpulls and honeypot tokens faster than users could evaluate them manually.

The Problem Solsniffer Solves

Solana's speed and cheap transaction fees fueled an explosion of SPL token launches — many fraudulent. Unlike Ethereum, where established scanners like Token Sniffer had years of development behind them, Solana lacked a native security tool that understood the specifics of SPL token mechanics: how mint and freeze authorities work, how Solana DEX liquidity pools are structured, and how the network's throughput changes the risk profile of new tokens. Solsniffer was built from scratch for this environment rather than ported from Solidity-based analysis.

Core Mechanism: The Snifscore

The central output is the Snifscore, a proprietary 0-100 rating. A higher score indicates a potentially safer token; a lower score signals elevated risk. The score is not static — it updates dynamically as on-chain conditions change, so a token that locks its liquidity or renounces its mint authority after launch will see its score improve.

The platform evaluates tokens against 20+ security indicators (22 at the time of research, with plans to expand to 40+). These include:

  • Mint authority status — whether the ability to create new supply has been renounced or remains active
  • Freeze authority status — whether holders can be frozen, a critical honeypot vector on Solana
  • Liquidity pool analysis — LP lock or burn status, LP size, and pull-risk assessment across Raydium, Orca, and Meteora
  • Top holder concentration — how much of the supply sits in a small number of wallets
  • Creator token holdings — whether the deployer retains a disproportionate share
  • Metadata mutability — whether token name, symbol, or URI can be changed post-launch
  • Social signal verification — whether the token has linked social media accounts
  • Contract vulnerabilities and permissions — code-level issues and modification capabilities
  • Market and price behavior — trading volume patterns, liquidity stability, and manipulation indicators

Each risk factor receives its own rating and explanation, not just a contribution to the aggregate score. Users are expected to read the breakdown, not just rely on the headline number.

Products and Features

Token Sniffer (Snif Tokens) The primary product: paste any Solana token contract address or search by name and receive an instant audit. No registration is required for one-off scans; all core scan data is visible without an account.

Wallet Tracking and Cluster Analysis Beyond individual tokens, Solsniffer offers analytics on wallet activity and transaction histories. A visualization tool represents wallet relationships as interconnected bubbles, enabling users to identify insider trading patterns, coordinated distribution schemes, and related wallets that might indicate a coordinated dump.

Market and Liquidity Monitoring Real-time data on liquidity pools across Raydium, Orca, and Meteora, including market depth, trading volume, and sentiment signals, giving context to security data.

Enterprise API A RESTful API gives developers and platforms programmatic access to Solsniffer security data. It supports batch processing and is documented for integration into trading bots, aggregators, and other ecosystem tools. Access requires a free account at solsniffer.com/api-service.

Supported Tokens and Assets

Solsniffer covers SPL tokens on Solana exclusively. It is not a multi-chain platform. Any SPL token with a contract address can be scanned, including newly launched memecoins, DeFi tokens, and established projects. The analysis draws on on-chain data from Solana validators and DEX programs in real time.

Scale and Adoption

By early 2025 the platform had analyzed over 540,000 tokens, served more than 70,000 users across 190 countries, and flagged over 3.3 million potential security issues. Earlier reports cited over 1 million total token scans. The platform releases updates on a weekly cadence.

Team and History

Solsniffer was announced on February 24, 2024, with the team describing themselves as experienced with innovative blockchain products. Individual founders are not publicly identified. The project operates under a community-published ownership model. Development has continued steadily since launch, with the indicator set expanding and new features — including the wallet clustering visualization — added post-launch.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Solsniffer fills a specific gap that became pronounced during Solana's 2023-2024 growth cycle, when memecoin activity and token launch platforms like Pump.fun drove enormous volumes of new SPL token issuance alongside a corresponding rise in fraud. The platform's Solana-only focus means its heuristics reflect how SPL tokens actually launch and trade — mint and freeze authority mechanics are Solana-specific controls that EVM scanners have no equivalent for — rather than applying generic smart-contract analysis that misses ecosystem nuance.

Its main competition on Solana is RugCheck, which has broader community adoption and integration with trading bots. Solsniffer's advantage is granularity: a numerical score with per-indicator breakdowns rather than a categorical pass/fail, and the addition of wallet clustering analysis that moves beyond token-level risk into deployer and holder behavior. The tradeoff is that community trust in the Snifscore is still developing compared to RugCheck's longer track record.

The API offering positions Solsniffer as infrastructure as much as a consumer product — trading bots and DEX aggregators that want on-chain security signals without building their own analysis can pull Solsniffer data directly.
