Home Harvest is building what it describes as the world's largest ReFi community of connected growers — a UK-based project that fuses smart indoor farming hardware with Solana DePIN and regenerative finance infrastructure to let everyday households grow hyper-fresh food at home while generating verifiable environmental data on-chain.
The Problem
Modern food supply chains put days or weeks between harvest and plate. Nutrients degrade, waste accumulates across cold chains, and consumers in urban settings have no practical way to grow their own produce year-round. At the same time, the voluntary carbon market has struggled with trust: carbon credits are difficult to verify, aggregate, and price at the individual level. Home Harvest aims to solve both problems with a single connected device.
The Product
At the center of the Home Harvest system is a British-made smart indoor farm designed for kitchen countertops. The device automates the growing environment — controlling light, water, temperature, and humidity — through an accompanying smartphone app. Users drop in pre-seeded seed mats (no soil required) and can move from seed to harvest in as little as eight days. The company guarantees 100% germination on its seed mat collections, which span themed ranges including Taste of Tokyo, English Country Garden, Fields of Verona, Pregnancy Support, and the mood-focused Sunnymood series.
The hardware is energy-efficient, aesthetically designed to complement kitchen environments, and connects to a cloud platform that tracks each growing cycle. The app extends the experience beyond cultivation, surfacing recipes and nutritional data linked to what a user is currently growing.
The Blockchain Layer
What distinguishes Home Harvest from a conventional smart farming product is its Solana integration. Co-founder Hedley Aylott has described the on-chain layer directly: "We use blockchain to verify and transfer harvest data from our growers, and plan to aggregate the carbon offsets generated by each unit for sale in tokenized carbon markets."
Each connected device feeds verified harvest data — yields, meal plans, recipes, and ecosystem engagement — onto the blockchain, creating a transparent and auditable record of what each household is producing. This individual-level data aggregation is the foundation of the carbon offset strategy: each unit reduces food miles and associated emissions, and the project plans to bundle those offsets into tokenized instruments for sale in on-chain carbon markets.
This positions Home Harvest within the DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) category on Solana: real-world devices contributing data to a decentralized network, with participants earning economic value from their physical contribution. The project also frames itself within ReFi (Regenerative Finance), using financial incentives to drive positive environmental outcomes — in this case, home food production that displaces industrially transported produce.
Solana Credentials
Home Harvest placed third in the DePIN track of the Solana Breakout Hackathon, organized by Colosseum and announced in July 2025. The hackathon was one of the largest in crypto history, attracting more than 10,000 participants across 1,412 final submissions. Placing in the DePIN track alongside purpose-built infrastructure projects validated the core technical thesis: that a network of consumer growing devices can function as decentralized physical infrastructure generating economically valuable on-chain data.
Founders and Team
Home Harvest was co-founded by Andrew Johnson, known in the UK food industry as the Salad King, and digital entrepreneur Hedley Aylott. Johnson previously built Living Salads, a living plant product that reached top-seller status across UK and European grocery retailers — a background that gives the company direct credibility in fresh produce supply chains. Aylott brings the technology and digital commerce background.
The broader team draws on careers in agritech, nutrition, wellness, food, design, marketing, web3, and retail. The product design function was built by engineers with prior experience at Dyson, reflecting the company's emphasis on hardware quality as a consumer product rather than a developer tool.
Funding and Traction
Home Harvest raised $1.5 million in pre-seed capital and is working toward a $3 million seed round. The company has attracted coverage from BBC, Country Life, and Reuters, and a long-form feature appeared in Food and Drink Technology magazine in May 2026. Pre-orders have been collected through a $10 deposit waitlist model.
Fit in the Solana Ecosystem
Home Harvest sits at the intersection of two of Solana's most active frontier categories: DePIN and ReFi. Both categories rely on the same underlying thesis — that Solana throughput and low transaction costs make it viable to record high-frequency, low-value data events from physical-world devices at scale. A network of connected home growing units, each logging harvest cycles and yield outputs, generates exactly the kind of continuous, machine-level data stream that DePIN infrastructure is designed to support.
The carbon offset angle extends this into the ReFi space. Tokenized environmental assets require credible underlying data, and the auditability of on-chain harvest records from a verified device fleet is a meaningful step toward carbon credits that can withstand scrutiny — a persistent weak point in existing voluntary carbon markets.
The company's Colosseum hackathon placement demonstrates that the technical foundations are sufficiently developed to compete on merit within the Solana builder community, and the consumer-grade hardware gives the project a distribution path unusual among DePIN projects, which more commonly target professional operators rather than households.
