Render Network

Render Network is a decentralized GPU compute marketplace that connects idle GPU hardware with creators, developers, and enterprises who need processing power on demand. Founded in 2017 by Jules Urbach, CEO of OTOY, the project launched publicly on April 27, 2020, and was originally built on Ethereum. In November 2023, following a community governance vote, the network completed a migration to Solana — swapping the ERC-20 RNDR token for the Solana-native SPL token RENDER on a 1:1 basis. The Render Network Foundation, a Cayman Islands nonprofit, oversees protocol development and community governance.

From Creative Rendering to General-Purpose GPU Compute

Render Network began with a singular focus: giving professional 3D artists access to GPU rendering capacity they could not otherwise afford or provision at scale. The network's original use case remains central — supporting industry-standard render engines including OctaneRender, Redshift, and Blender Cycles. Artists working in Cinema 4D can accelerate production pipelines through the C4D Wizard tool, with documented examples of creators achieving dramatically faster render times by distributing workloads across the network's node operators.

Over time, the protocol has expanded well beyond its creative roots. In December 2025, the Render Network Foundation launched Dispersed, a dedicated compute subnet designed specifically for AI workloads. Dispersed aggregates thousands of distributed GPUs — including enterprise-grade NVIDIA H100, H200, A100, and AMD MI300X hardware — to support AI inference, image and video generation, document processing, and general high-performance compute. The expansion is governed through formal proposals; RNP-021, passed in late 2025, formally authorized integrating enterprise-class GPU hardware into the network without introducing additional token emissions, drawing rewards from existing allocations instead.

AI tool partners now using the network include Runway, Black Forest Labs, Luma Labs, and Stability AI, reflecting Render's growing footprint in the AI infrastructure landscape.

The Burn-Mint Equilibrium Model

Render Network's tokenomics are structured around a mechanism called Burn-Mint Equilibrium (BME), which ties token supply directly to network activity rather than relying on a fixed maximum supply or purely inflationary emissions.

Under BME, jobs submitted to the network are priced in fiat (USD), with users paying the equivalent value in RENDER tokens at the time of job submission. When a job completes, the tokens paid are burned — permanently removed from circulating supply — minus a 5% service fee retained by the protocol. Simultaneously, new RENDER tokens are minted on a predefined declining schedule to reward GPU node operators for providing compute capacity. Year 1 of the BME model allocated 9,126,804 RENDER to node operator rewards; Year 2 reduced that figure to 5,905,580 RENDER. Emissions taper over time, creating a disinflationary trajectory that assumes network demand — and therefore burning — grows proportionally.

The practical effect is a direct feedback loop between usage and supply: higher demand means more burns, which tightens supply; lower demand reduces burning and leaves more tokens in circulation. The model reached a milestone in December 2025 when cumulative burns under BME crossed 1 million RENDER tokens. Earlier data from the Render Network Foundation showed approximately 530,171 RENDER burned across January through September 2025, a figure reported to be roughly 279% higher than the same period in 2024 — indicating significant acceleration in network usage.

Fiat pricing for jobs decouples service costs from short-term token price volatility, giving creators predictable production budgets and giving node operators clearer revenue expectations.

Solana as Infrastructure Foundation

The migration to Solana was motivated by the network's need for high-throughput, low-latency settlement. Solana's sub-400 millisecond block times enable real-time payment finalization — creators receive confirmation and node operators receive reward accounting near-instantly rather than waiting for Ethereum block confirmation cycles. The throughput capacity, which Render Network has described as comparable to Visa's maximum transaction volume under stress testing, supports the volume of microtransactions the marketplace generates as jobs are subdivided, distributed, and settled across many operators simultaneously.

Upcoming Solana infrastructure improvements expected to benefit Render include Firedancer, a full client rewrite projected to substantially increase throughput, and DoubleZero, a fiber-only routing layer designed to reduce network latency for validators and applications alike.

As of mid-2026, approximately 98.4% of RNDR tokens had been converted to RENDER on Solana. The Render Network continues to prompt remaining holders to complete the upgrade through the official portal at renderfoundation.com/upgrade.

Community, Governance, and Ecosystem

The Render Network Foundation runs a structured governance process through Render Network Proposals (RNPs), allowing community token holders to vote on protocol changes, emission schedules, hardware support expansions, and fee structures. Active discussions have included RNP-020, which proposed guidance on node operator reward predictability, and RNP-021 on enterprise GPU integration.

The Foundation publishes monthly activity reports tracking network metrics, governance progress, product releases, and community events. Monthly releases of the Manager App — the primary interface for submitting and managing rendering jobs — have included improvements to scene management, API access provisioning, asset compression, and Cinema 4D integration.

Render Network is an active participant in the DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) landscape, with Foundation representatives joining peers like Livepeer and DIMO Network at industry panels in July 2026 to discuss product-market fit and long-term sustainability of decentralized infrastructure. The project has received editorial coverage in Fast Company, VentureBeat, CoinDesk, Variety, and Harvard Business Review, and maintains a community presence across Discord and X.
