Chorus One recently conducted experiments testing the technology's effectiveness, finding that it helped reduce latency for validators located far from data centers, though benefits for geographically proximate nodes are stil...

About

Chorus One

Chorus One is one of the longest-standing institutional staking providers in the proof-of-stake ecosystem, founded in 2018 and operating across more than 40 blockchain networks before its acquisition by Bitwise Asset Management in February 2026. Over eight years as an independent company, Chorus One built a reputation for security-certified validator infrastructure, active protocol research, and deep integration with the custody and enterprise software stacks that institutional capital allocators depend on.

Origins and Growth

Brian Crain co-founded Chorus One in 2018 with the conviction that proof-of-stake consensus would reshape how blockchains were secured and governed. The firm positioned itself as a "torchbearer of proof-of-stake," building validator nodes not only on established networks but on emerging ones it selected through internal research. That selectivity was backed by a dedicated research function that analyzed protocol economics, governance structures, and staking mechanics before committing to any new chain.

By the time of its acquisition, Chorus One had grown to 50 technology professionals, managed over $2.2 billion in staked assets, and operated nodes on more than 30 networks including Ethereum, Solana, Cosmos, Avalanche, Sui, NEAR, Aptos, Tezos, TON, and Hyperliquid. A $30 million Chorus Ventures fund ran parallel to the core business, deploying capital into PoS protocols, interoperability solutions, and middleware.

Products and Enterprise Infrastructure

The flagship offering is institutional staking infrastructure — custom validator setups built to the compliance and operational standards required by banks, custodians, and asset managers. All infrastructure carries ISO 27001:2022 certification and SOC 2 compliance, alongside slashing and double-signing insurance for institutional clients. Geographic and operational redundancy is standard, with 24/7 monitoring and on-call support.

Over time, Chorus One built additional products to widen distribution:

  • Staking Widget: A plug-and-play iFrame portal that allows wallets, FinTech platforms, and DeFi applications to embed staking directly into their interfaces, with Chorus One handling the backend infrastructure.
  • Rewards Reporting Dashboard: Institutional-grade tracking of staking rewards across networks, useful for fund administrators and compliance workflows.
  • ETH Staking Vault and Whitelabel Validators: Customized Ethereum staking for partners wanting branded or private infrastructure.
  • TON Pool: A security-focused staking pool built for institutional participation in the TON network.
  • Chorus One Earn: Curated stablecoin yield vaults with risk management and real-time performance tracking.

Enterprise partnerships span Copper, Hex Trust, Ledger Enterprise, FalconX, Crypto.com, OKX, Cactus Custody, SafePal, and Bitget — covering a wide range of institutional custody and trading infrastructure.

Solana Presence

Chorus One has been a validator and ecosystem builder on Solana since the network's early days. Its public validator (Chorus6Kis8tFHA7AowrPMcRJk3LbApHTYpgSNXzY5KE) consistently outperforms network benchmarks: a skip rate of 2.03% versus the network average of 5.19%, and average block sizes of 1,696 transactions versus the network average of 1,573. According to the company's own analysis, if every Solana validator matched those metrics, network throughput would increase by roughly 11%.

Chorus One was also a founding contributor to Lido for Solana, the protocol that introduced stSOL as Solana's first major liquid staking token, giving delegators liquidity while continuing to earn staking rewards.

In August 2025, Chorus One announced a validator partnership with Delphi Digital, one of crypto's most recognized research and investment firms. The partnership targeted growing institutional demand for Solana staking, driven by the approach of spot SOL ETFs and rising corporate treasury adoption of SOL. Delphi Digital brought a validator with a 100% uptime record; Chorus One contributed enterprise security, compliance credentials, and $226 million in Solana assets under management — around 1 million SOL across its validator programs, ranking 87th among over 1,000 validators at the time.

Research is another axis of Chorus One's Solana contribution. The firm published technical analyses of Solana's transaction scheduler design and how different scheduling approaches affect network welfare (March 2026), DEX execution quality benchmarked against traditional finance standards (December 2025), and the effects of DoubleZero on validator behavior and throughput. These applied welfare economics and market microstructure frameworks to questions of network design.

Acquisition by Bitwise (February 2026)

On February 24, 2026, Bitwise Asset Management announced it was acquiring Chorus One, folding the team and infrastructure into Bitwise Onchain Solutions (BOS), the firm's dedicated staking division. Financial terms were not disclosed publicly.

The acquisition immediately expanded BOS's multichain capabilities from a handful of networks to 30+, and added 50 engineers and protocol specialists to a workforce that grew to nearly 200 globally. Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley described staking as "one of the most compelling growth opportunities for clients holding spot crypto assets" — a position informed by the proliferation of crypto spot ETFs and the resulting pressure on asset managers to offer staking yield alongside price exposure.

Brian Crain transitioned to an advisory role following the close. The operational infrastructure and product suite continued without disruption. In July 2026, the Ledger Live validator integration — previously labeled "Ledger by Chorus One" on Solana, Cosmos, and Injective — was rebranded to "Ledger by Bitwise," with fees and reward rates unchanged. The change reflected brand consolidation rather than any shift in counterparty or infrastructure.

Ecosystem Contributions

Beyond validator operations, Chorus One contributed open-source tooling and independent research to the networks it supported. The firm released a Hyperliquid offline signer in January 2026, enabling Hyperliquid validators to sign transactions via Ledger hardware wallets and keep private keys fully offline — a practical security contribution to an ecosystem with a history of custodial risk. Its research library covers MEV dynamics, governance participation, institutional adoption frameworks, and market microstructure analysis, with Solana featuring prominently across multiple publication cycles.

Chorus One's trajectory — from independent PoS pioneer to a component of an institutional asset manager's staking division — reflects a broader shift in the industry. Firms like Bitwise are acquiring rather than building validator operations, as institutional staking evolves from a niche infrastructure service into a standard product line. The Chorus One identity continues within Bitwise Onchain Solutions, carrying forward eight years of proof-of-stake expertise into its next chapter.
