Chillchat

Chillchat is a Web3 gaming studio that builds casual-competitive games on the Solana blockchain. Its flagship title is SOL Arena, a multiplayer battle game that merges arcade-style snake gameplay with extraction mechanics and real crypto stakes. The studio's founding thesis is that compelling player experience — not speculative tokenomics alone — should anchor blockchain gaming, captured in its tagline "Player Experience Obsession."

From Pixel Metaverse to Flagship Battle Game

Chillchat first emerged in early 2022 as a "Create2Earn" pixel art metaverse with ambitions to become the "pocket metaverse" accessible from any mobile browser. The original platform centered on three user-facing tools: a pixel editor for minting NFT characters, items, and tile sets; a world builder for assembling virtual spaces tile by tile; and a world scripting layer that converted player-built environments into playable games. The founding vision positioned the platform as a community-owned creative layer rather than a developer-controlled world.

To seed that community, Chillchat launched 1,500 limited "Origin" NFT characters — handcrafted, animated pixel art figures intended to anchor all future in-world identity. A public sale of 1,000 Origins on January 21, 2022 sold out in seconds at 2 SOL each (~$240 at the time). Secondary demand pushed the floor to 37.5 SOL within weeks, with the highest recorded sale reaching 100 SOL. Total secondary volume from Origins reached roughly 27,097 SOL, equivalent to approximately $2.8 million.

Over subsequent years, Chillchat redirected its development focus toward a more focused competitive title. SOL Arena became the studio's primary product and is now identified as its flagship game.

SOL Arena: Core Gameplay

SOL Arena is a real-time multiplayer extraction game hosted on Solana. Up to 50 players join a single match and compete in snake-style movement gameplay — growing their presence on the map, outmaneuvering rivals, and collecting a resource called noCHILL. The extraction mechanic requires players to strategically choose when to exit with their accumulated noCHILL rather than risk losing it to other players. The design blends the low barrier to entry of casual mobile games with the high-stakes tension of extraction-genre titles.

The game entered Open Beta on September 20, 2024 and attracted more than 80,000 registered players globally in the months that followed. SOL Arena runs in a browser and is built for Solana's throughput, which the team has cited as essential for low-latency real-time multiplayer at this player count.

$CHILL Token and In-Game Economy

The studio raised a total of $8.69 million across funding rounds to develop the game and launch its token economy. The $CHILL Token Generation Event (TGE) took place on March 28, 2025. The token serves two core functions within SOL Arena:

• High Roller Mode wagering: Players can stake $CHILL against opponents in a dedicated game mode that raises the economic stakes of each match beyond casual play.
• Staking rewards: $CHILL holders can stake the token to earn in-game rewards, tying longer-term holding behavior to active participation in the SOL Arena economy.

During the pre-TGE period, players could earn $CHILL airdrop allocations by actively playing the Open Beta and extracting noCHILL from matches. NFT holders from both the Chillchat Origin collection and the Challengers collection were also eligible for token airdrops.

The Challengers NFT collection — a second series distinct from the original Origins — was minted on Magic Eden in February 2025 and sold out. Mobile versions of SOL Arena for iOS and Android were announced for mid-2025.

NFT Collections

Two primary NFT collections are connected to the Chillchat ecosystem:

• Chillchat Origin NFTs: The original 1,500-piece collection from 2022, providing identity and airdrop eligibility within the ecosystem.
• Challengers NFTs: A newer collection minted on Magic Eden in February 2025, linked to $CHILL token airdrops and in-game team dynamics.

SOL Arena's community layer integrates Solana's broader NFT and memecoin culture directly into competitive play. NFT communities, memecoin holders, and token projects can form shared teams within the game, creating a competitive metagame built around Solana-native community identity.

Funding and Investors

Chillchat's initial $1.85 million seed round in February 2022 was led by Solana Ventures at a $10 million valuation, with participation from FTX Ventures, Animoca Brands, Griffin Gaming Partners, A&T Capital, YGGSEA, Infinity Ventures Crypto, Diamond Hands Ventures, and PKO Investments. Subsequent rounds brought total disclosed funding to $8.69 million. Later-stage backers include Jump Crypto, Crypto.com Capital, Morningstar Ventures, Gate.io, Double Peak, Big Brain Holdings, and Shima Capital.

The studio also assembled an advisory board of founders from established gaming and entertainment companies, including Kevin Lin (Twitch co-founder), Kun Gao (Crunchyroll co-founder), Holly Liu (Kabam co-founder), Patrick Lee (Rotten Tomatoes co-founder), and Nigel Eccles (FanDuel co-founder).

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Chillchat is a native Solana project in both technical and cultural terms. SOL Arena leverages Solana's speed for real-time multiplayer infrastructure. Its NFT marketplace presence is primarily on Magic Eden. The $CHILL token launched on Solana, and the project's investor base — anchored by Solana Ventures and Jump Crypto — reflects deep integration with the Solana builder and investor community. The game's team mechanic, which unites Solana memecoin communities and NFT holders in competitive play, positions SOL Arena as a social hub within the broader Solana ecosystem rather than a standalone gaming product.
