Token Terminal
Token Terminal is a blockchain data analytics platform founded in December 2019. Its premise is straightforward: apply the financial metrics used in traditional equity markets to on-chain protocols and decentralized applications. The company's tagline, "Fundamentals for crypto," describes the approach. Where most crypto data tools surface raw transaction counts or price movements, Token Terminal normalizes those signals into comparable business indicators such as revenue, fees, and user retention.
The platform covers more than 100 blockchains and tracks over 1,200 protocols and 3,000+ tokenized assets. Data is ingested directly from RPC nodes, decoded at the smart contract level, and stored in a proprietary data warehouse. Each protocol's business logic is then mapped to a standard set of KPIs, so a Solana-based DEX and an Ethereum lending market can be compared on the same axes.
The Product Stack
Token Terminal ships six main access points. Explorer is the primary web interface: a browsable dashboard of financial metrics, sector comparisons, and project rankings. Studio lets users build custom charts and dashboards on top of the same underlying dataset. The Sheets product delivers a Google Sheets and Excel plugin, so analysts can pull live data into their own models without writing code.
The API exposes the full dataset programmatically over REST with JSON responses, supporting up to 1,000 requests per minute. Institutional clients with heavier data needs access a Data Room offering at custom pricing, which connects directly to the underlying data warehouse for use in internal data lakes and research pipelines.
The most recent addition to the stack is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. This lets AI coding environments and agents query Token Terminal's dataset inline. As of August 2026, it supports connections from Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Cursor, Codex CLI, and Gemini CLI. Token Terminal also became an official connector on Claude.ai in August 2026, bringing on-chain fundamentals into the AI chat interface without requiring the user to switch contexts.
What Gets Measured
The core financial metrics mirror those in traditional equity analysis. Fees are the gross amount users pay to interact with a protocol. Revenue is the portion retained by the protocol itself, separate from fees passed to liquidity providers. Supply-side fees capture what goes to those providers. Earnings represent revenue minus any token emissions used as incentives. TVL (total value locked) proxies for the scale of assets a protocol controls.
Valuation ratios such as P/S (price-to-sales) and P/F (price-to-fees) allow projects to be ranked against each other across market cycles, the same way equity analysts use P/E multiples. Beyond financials, Token Terminal tracks active users, developer activity, and fundraising data, which the platform classifies as alternative data alongside the financial statement view.
The methodology, as described in Token Terminal's own documentation, builds on "standardized key performance indicators from traditional finance" applied to crypto networks and decentralized applications. Project-specific business logic is mapped consistently across the dataset so like-for-like comparisons hold.
Institutional Recognition and Research Use
In January 2026, Token Terminal launched on the Bloomberg App Portal as the first crypto fundamentals application integrated into Bloomberg Terminal. The milestone reflects the platform's traction among institutional desks that need on-chain data in formats familiar from equity research.
Academic and regulatory bodies have drawn on the same dataset. The Bank for International Settlements cited Token Terminal data in Working Paper No. 1335, "Tokenomics and blockchain fragmentation," published in March 2026. The BIS used Token Terminal's fee revenue estimates across Ethereum, Solana, and Tron to study how user activity migrates between chains when fees shift. The paper's underlying data showed that by late 2025, each of those three networks was generating annualized fee revenues in the range of $500 million to $600 million, according to Crypto Briefing's coverage of the publication. Known institutional subscribers include asset managers Franklin Templeton and Grayscale.
Tokenized Real-World Asset Coverage
A significant portion of the platform's recent data work focuses on tokenized real-world assets. Token Terminal tracks market cap, holder counts, and chain distribution across tokenized treasuries, tokenized stocks, and broader RWA categories. As of early August 2026, the tokenized U.S. Treasury market totaled $15.2 billion in market cap across 18 chains, with Ethereum holding a 43.2% share. The tokenized stock market tracked at $2.8 billion across 13 chains, where BNB Chain led with 35.4% of market cap.
This data is published regularly through the platform's resources section and distributed via its newsletter. It has become a reference source for tracking the RWA sector's trajectory in near-real time.
Pricing
Token Terminal operates a tiered model. The free plan includes full historical data access, three custom dashboards, the Sheets and Excel plugin, and 500,000 API requests per month. The Pro plan runs $350 per month (or $297.50 per month billed annually) and expands to unlimited dashboards and 1 million API requests monthly. Developers and institutions requiring full data warehouse access or bespoke data room arrangements contact the sales team for custom pricing.
Token Terminal AI
In July 2026 the company introduced Token Terminal AI, described by the company as "the ground truth for onchain intelligence." The product is designed for natural-language querying over the platform's dataset, covering the same blockchains, protocols, and tokenized assets available through Explorer and the API. The MCP server integration and the Claude connector extend this direction to users who prefer working inside their development environment rather than the web dashboard.
The same month, Token Terminal integrated with CoinMarketCap, bringing its on-chain fundamentals data into that platform and its AI features.
Token Terminal's trajectory since founding points toward making on-chain financial data accessible at every level: a free web dashboard for individual analysts, spreadsheet plugins for those who work in Excel, API access for developers, and AI-native interfaces for the next generation of tooling. The Bloomberg App Portal listing and the BIS citation mark how far that reach has extended into the institutional layer.
