TND Payments
TND Payments is a decentralized payment platform that enables cryptocurrency transactions at physical points of sale using NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. Announced in January 2024, the project targets a persistent friction point in crypto adoption: using digital assets for everyday in-person purchases without relying on centralized intermediaries, custodial wallets, or proprietary payment rails.
Existing crypto payment solutions tend to lock users into a specific token or network, require a trusted third party to settle transactions, or depend on traditional card infrastructure that reintroduces the fees and counterparty risk they were meant to eliminate. TND Payments frames its answer as a universal payment layer that connects wallets, tokens, and networks under a single interface, letting both the buyer and the merchant independently choose the assets they prefer.
The platform is particularly aimed at users in high-inflation regions, travelers, freelancers operating across borders, and merchants who want to accept digital assets without paying steep card-processing fees to acquirer networks.
How It Works
The core interaction is phone-to-phone: two devices equipped with NFC radios exchange payment data by being brought into close proximity, replicating the "tap to pay" experience standard for contactless debit and credit cards. Neither party needs to scan a QR code, share a wallet address manually, or use a centralized app as a relay.
The transaction flow allows each side to specify their preferred token independently. A buyer can denominate the payment in one asset while the merchant receives a different one; TND Payments handles the bridging and swapping automatically. The platform does not disclose the specific DEX or bridge infrastructure used for this conversion.
A second product in development is the TND Payments Card, a physical payment card designed to function as a fully crypto-native option independent of the user's phone battery. The card encrypts payment data and requires no third-party intermediary. It was listed as "coming soon" at launch.
QR code support has also been identified as a planned feature for environments where NFC is unavailable.
Key Features
- NFC phone-to-phone payments: Contactless peer-to-peer crypto transactions without third-party involvement or transaction limits.
- Token-agnostic payments: Buyers and merchants each select their preferred wallet and token; automated bridging and swapping handles the difference.
- TND Payments Card: A hardware card for crypto payments that does not depend on a connected smartphone, with encrypted transaction data.
- Merchant discovery: Consumers can locate nearby merchants accepting the platform.
- DAO token rewards: Users earn governance tokens by participating in the ecosystem.
- No third-party or transaction limits: Custodial intermediaries and per-transaction caps are explicitly excluded from the design.
Supported Tokens and Assets
TND Payments describes support for "various wallets, tokens, and networks" but has not published a definitive list of supported assets. The multi-token architecture with automated swapping suggests broad intent to support major SPL tokens and compatible chains, though no specific token list or liquidity sources have been disclosed in public documentation.
Solana Ecosystem Fit
TND Payments is listed in the Solana ecosystem and was featured by Heavy Duty Builders, a Solana-focused builder community, in April 2024. Solana's sub-cent transaction fees, fast finality, and established payments tooling make it a practical fit for a real-world payments application where settlement speed and cost are user-visible. Solana Pay already established the pattern of wallet-to-wallet transfers at point of sale; TND Payments extends that by adding NFC as the transport and abstracting token selection from the user.
Team and Background
TND Payments was founded by Lomo, who serves as lead developer. The team at launch comprised four members: Lomo (founder and developer), Miguel (crypto payments specialist), Beltrán (developer and security analyst), and j0hannes (business development, finance background). The project is community-oriented with a DAO token reward mechanism. No corporate entity, registered jurisdiction, or prior track record has been disclosed in public sources.
Security and Audit Status
No security audits or formal code reviews have been publicly disclosed for TND Payments. Beltrán is identified on the team as a security analyst, indicating internal attention to security, but no third-party audit report or bug bounty program has been announced. Prospective users should note the absence of public audit documentation.
Current Status
TND Payments was announced in January 2024 and was in active development as of mid-2024. The NFC app is the primary product, with the TND Payments Card and QR code functionality listed as upcoming milestones. The project has limited third-party coverage and no major exchange listings or partnership announcements in publicly available sources, consistent with an early-stage builder project.
