About

Sphere

Sphere is a stablecoin payment infrastructure company founded in 2022 by Arnold Lee and Luigi Charles. Incorporated in Delaware as Sphere Laboratories Inc., the company builds the compliance, settlement, and currency-conversion plumbing that lets businesses move money across borders using stablecoins without building those layers themselves. Its primary commercial offering is SpherePay, an API-first platform for on-ramp and off-ramp transfers. Alongside it, the company is developing SphereNet, described as a sovereign-grade global settlement ledger.

What SpherePay Does

SpherePay sits between a business's application and the patchwork of local banks, payment rails, and compliance requirements that complicate cross-border transactions. A fintech or payroll company integrates once through SpherePay's API and gains access to fiat-to-stablecoin and stablecoin-to-fiat conversions, embedded KYC and KYB verification, and outbound payments to bank accounts in over 160 markets. Settlement completes in under 30 minutes, according to the company. The platform eliminates the prefunding requirement common in traditional correspondent banking by using just-in-time stablecoin settlement.

The company frames its pitch around consolidation: rather than integrating separately with a compliance vendor, an on-ramp provider, a payment processor, and a local banking partner, a business can replace those relationships with a single SpherePay connection.

Four Products

SpherePay is organized into four distinct products:

The Developer Toolkit is the core API and SDK layer. It exposes three primary endpoints: customer registration with identity verification, instrument linking for bank accounts and crypto wallets, and transfer initiation. API version 2 is the current standard; v1 endpoints were deprecated through 2025 and early 2026.

The Business Dashboard is a self-serve web application for businesses that want to send and receive global payments without writing code. It supports customer onboarding, external account management, offloader wallet generation, and transaction history tracking.

The Private Desk is a high-touch service for large-scale OTC transfers that require customized FX pricing and dedicated support.

The Embedded Ramp is a widget that developers can drop into any web application with roughly 20 lines of JavaScript. It lets end users buy or sell stablecoins against local fiat currencies without leaving the host application.

Supported Networks, Assets, and Rails

SpherePay is multi-chain. Solana is a primary network, joined by Ethereum, Polygon, Base, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Tron, Aptos, and Starknet. Stablecoin support covers USDC, USDT, and EURC; EURC was added across on-ramp and off-ramp products on Base, Ethereum, and Solana in March 2026.

On the fiat side, the platform handles USD, EUR, and BRL, with payment rail support for ACH (United States), Wire transfers, SEPA (Europe), and PIX (Brazil). BRL/PIX transfers were extended to Polygon, Ethereum, Base, and Tron in April 2026, with transaction limits of R$1 to R$7,500 per transfer. SWIFT international USD payouts were added in June 2026 with correspondent bank routing.

Compliance Architecture

KYC for individuals and KYB for organizations are required before transfer initiation. Sphere positions compliance as built into the payment flow rather than a separate step. The API handles identity verification, and as of September 2026 integrators can configure customer-level verification profiles to apply different compliance requirements for different product lines, such as a separate profile for USD and EUR transfers versus stablecoin on-ramp accounts.

European Economic Area customers gained additional data requirements in July 2026, including account purpose, country of birth, and nationality for individuals, and country-specific registration numbers for businesses.

Target Customers

Sphere's documented use cases cluster around four scenarios: cross-border payroll distribution, payment acceptance for merchants, currency trading and FX management, and trade finance. The company is especially focused on emerging markets, where traditional wire transfers are slow and expensive. Its geographic emphasis falls on the United States, Brazil, and Latin America.

Customers using the platform include importers, exporters, trading firms, neobanks, digital wallets, payment service providers, cryptocurrency exchanges, and payroll platforms. A virtual-account pattern in the API lets payroll operators process recurring payments without making a separate API call per transaction.

Funding and Investors

In December 2024, Sphere raised $5 million in a funding round co-led by Coinbase Ventures and Kraken Ventures. Additional investors in the round and earlier backers include Anza, TCG, Jump Crypto, HRT, Solana Ventures, Pyth, Temporal, and Anagram, according to the company's about page. The round was covered by Fortune and The Paypers. Lee stated at the time that the funds would go toward regulatory compliance and risk management operations.

Partnerships and Ecosystem Presence

In July 2025, Sphere partnered with Utila to enable cross-border stablecoin payments through Utila's custody infrastructure. In November 2025, African fintech tisini announced a partnership with Sphere Labs to build credit and investment products on top of stablecoin rails.

CEO Arnold Lee has presented at Solana Accelerate 2025, Solana Breakpoint 2025, and Consensus Hong Kong 2025, focusing on the requirements for stablecoin adoption in international trade: business-level trust, compliance transparency, and regulatory engagement. Sphere's view, articulated at Accelerate 2025, is that responsible infrastructure matters as much as speed, because rapid stablecoin adoption without adequate compliance can destabilize the financial systems of emerging economies.

The API changelog reflects an active product. Regular releases through 2025 and 2026 have covered new network support, expanded compliance tooling for European markets, dashboard capabilities, and new stablecoin and rail integrations. The product is under continuous development with no signs of dormancy.
