Solchat

TL;DR: Solchat is a messaging app built on Solana. Users sign in with a Solana wallet instead of a phone number or email, and they can send encrypted text messages, make voice and video calls, and send SOL to each other. Messages are stored on-chain.

What Solchat does

Solchat's website calls it a "Solana communication protocol". The goal is to offer the text, voice and video calling people know from Web2 apps, but with a crypto wallet as the account. Anyone can message anyone else's wallet address, so users don't need to share personal details, and conversations aren't held on a company's central server.

The project pitches this as a privacy-focused alternative to regular messaging apps and social platforms. Trust Wallet's beginner's guide to Solchat describes it the same way: users own their conversation history and communicate through a wallet-connected dApp.

How it works

Every Solchat text message is a Solana transaction. According to the project's site, messages are sent as transactions with a custom memo and stored on Solana in encrypted form. They are decrypted when the owner connects their wallet. Gate Learn's explainer says the encrypted content is written into the transaction's memo field. Because each message is a normal transaction, it costs very little. The project says 0.1 SOL is enough for months of use.

The same Gate Learn explainer lists the fees for the beta version:

• Registration: 0.04 SOL
• Starting a new chat: 0.02 SOL
• Each later message: about 0.000025 SOL
• Voice and video calls: free

These figures come from the beta and may have changed.

Voice and video calls don't go on-chain. They run peer-to-peer between wallets over WebRTC, which is why they carry no transaction fee. Images can be shared by uploading them to decentralized storage (Arweave or IPFS) and linking them in a chat.

Developer SDK

The project's GitHub organisation publishes solchat-sdk, a TypeScript SDK for adding Solchat messaging to other Solana dApps. It supports user setup, direct messages, group messaging, message encryption, and adding or removing group members. It was built with Metaplex's Kinobi tooling. The repository lists the Solchat program at 3RwiUiCrxqsnbSBkbqAdRCY3n9RdwJHG9MVeSmtG7PSs on mainnet and 5zf6JLJTTHobHboH7X17k5x3TeACiziomehjAGRx6PYq on devnet. The repository is small: two commits on its main branch, with a handful of stars and forks.

The CHAT token

Solchat's token is CHAT (CHAT), a zero-tax SPL token. The project says it can be traded on Jupiter and is tracked on CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap. According to CoinCarp, the maximum supply was 10 million CHAT and the 10% allocated to liquidity was burned, leaving a total supply of about 9 million. The published allocation was:

• 60% presale
• 10% liquidity
• 10% centralized exchange listings
• 10% team
• 10% marketing

Third-party explainers say CHAT is meant to unlock premium features and to be used for staking, governance and micropayments. Gate Learn also describes a staking pool on the SolRocket launchpad that paid holders an 80% share of revenue.

History

Solchat raised its presale through the SolRocket launchpad. A February 11, 2024 press release said the presale was finished and the platform launch was coming. CHAT then held an initial exchange offering on Gate.io Startup from April 8 to 10, 2024. The offering raised $20,000 at $1.60 per token, and spot trading of CHAT/USDT opened on Gate.io on April 10, 2024. CoinCarp also lists CHAT on MEXC and Bitget. Like many small-cap tokens from that period, CHAT now trades far below its early highs.

Solchat's roadmap marks Phases 1 to 4 as complete: the website and whitepaper, the presale and launch, texting, images, and audio/video calls, and exchange listings. The team has not named its members publicly. The press release mentions a CEO/CTO without giving a name. No security audit is documented on the project's website.

Current status

Solchat's website is still online, and CHAT still trades on Solana DEXs, although liquidity is thin. Public activity has slowed. The last post on the project's X account in the past year is from October 4, 2025, when Solchat said it had released an Android APK internally for community testing. The docs subdomain linked from the website currently returns a 404 error. The site claims more than 1 million chats and over 50,000 active users, but these figures come from the project itself and have not been verified independently.

Place in the Solana ecosystem

Solchat is one of several projects building wallet-based messaging on Solana. Its approach relies on Solana's low fees to make on-chain messages affordable, and it pairs chat with native SOL transfers. For users, this means one wallet identity for messaging, calls and payments. The trade-off is that each text message is a public transaction, even though its content is encrypted.
