Solchat

Solchat is a decentralized communication protocol on the Solana blockchain that enables secure messaging and calls between wallets. It offers encrypted text, voice, and video communication with onchain message storage and integrates low-cost financial transactions.

Solchat

Solchat is a decentralized communication protocol built on the Solana blockchain, offering text messaging, audio calls, video calls, image sharing, group chats, and peer-to-peer payments within a single wallet-connected interface. Announced in February 2024, it positions itself as a Web3 alternative to centralized messaging applications, replacing account-based logins with wallet identity and storing communications on-chain rather than on company-controlled servers.

How It Works

The core mechanism relies on Solana's native memo field. When a user sends a message, Solchat embeds the encrypted content directly into a Solana transaction as a custom memo, meaning each message is a low-cost on-chain transaction rather than a row in a private database. Messages are encrypted before they leave the sender's client and decrypt only when the recipient's wallet connects—the platform itself has no access to message contents.

Audio and video calls bypass centralized media servers entirely by using WebRTC, a peer-to-peer protocol that routes encrypted streams directly between participants' devices. Images and other media files are uploaded to decentralized storage networks—either Arweave or IPFS—and referenced on-chain, keeping large binary data off Solana while preserving the decentralized storage guarantee.

Operating costs remain low by design. Solchat states that users can sustain extended messaging activity with as little as 0.1 SOL, given Solana's sub-cent transaction fees.

Feature Set

Solchat's live feature set as of 2024 includes:

Encrypted one-on-one messaging: Text conversations between any two Solana wallet addresses, stored on-chain and readable only by the parties involved.

Peer-to-peer audio calls: Encrypted voice calls routed via WebRTC without a centralized relay server.

Peer-to-peer video calls: Wallet-to-wallet video using the same WebRTC architecture, enabling private video communication without platform surveillance.

Image sharing: Photos stored on Arweave or IPFS and referenced within conversations.

Group chat: Multi-user messaging rooms, with access to the Global Chat room gated by a minimum holding of 1,000 CHAT tokens.

SOL payments: Direct SOL transfers embedded in the messaging interface, allowing users to send funds in the same flow as a conversation—comparable to in-chat payment features on centralized apps like WeChat or Venmo.

Collaborative whiteboard: A shared real-time drawing space accessible within chats, enabling visual brainstorming alongside text conversation.

Wallet Security Report: Integrated with Webacy's EmbeddedSafety API, this feature provides real-time blockchain transaction monitoring and wallet risk analysis for contacts, surfacing potential risk signals before users send funds or share sensitive information.

The dApp is accessible at solchat.app and supports connection through standard Solana wallets.

The CHAT Token

The native CHAT token runs on Solana with contract address 947tEoG318GUmyjVYhraNRvWpMX7fpBTDQFBoJvSkSG3. Total supply is approximately 8.999 million tokens, distributed across five categories: 60% to presale participants, 10% to liquidity provision, 10% reserved for centralized exchange listings, 10% to the team, and 10% to marketing.

The token's initial exchange offering ran on Gate.io Startup from April 8-10, 2024, at a fixed price of 1.60 USD per token. The offering raised 20,000 USD in total. CHAT subsequently listed on Gate.io, Bitget, MEXC Global, and BitMart.

Within the protocol, CHAT serves several functions:

  • Premium feature access: Staking CHAT tokens unlocks premium tiers of the platform, including the ability to create private group chats.
  • Global Chat access: A minimum holding of 1,000 CHAT tokens is required to participate in the Global Chat room.
  • Governance: Token holders can vote on platform governance decisions.
  • Staking rewards: Users who stake CHAT in the SolRocket pool receive an 80% share of revenue generated by the pool.
  • Micropayments: CHAT can be exchanged between users within the application alongside SOL.

Market History

CHAT's price history reflects the volatility typical of small-cap Solana ecosystem tokens from the early 2024 cycle. The token reached an all-time high of 19.68 USD on March 18, 2024—before the Gate.io IEO closed—driven by early DEX trading on Raydium during a period of broad Solana ecosystem momentum. The IEO's 1.60 USD sale price was thus set well below market at the time of the offering.

Since the March 2024 peak, CHAT has declined significantly. As of mid-2025, the token traded around 0.027 USD and the project's market capitalization stood at approximately 218,000 USD, with roughly 8.04 million of the approximately 9 million total supply in circulation.

Development Roadmap

Solchat structured its development across five phases. Phase 1 covered the website, whitepaper, and initial messaging system. Phase 2 added presale activity, DEX listings on Raydium, and image sharing. Phase 3 delivered audio and video calling and UI redesigns. Phase 4 targeted mobile app availability via the Solana Mobile DApp Store. Phase 5, which remains partially in progress, covers group streaming, enhanced staking rewards, and broader CEX integrations.

The team has released an internal Android APK for community testing ahead of the anticipated Solana Mobile DApp Store submission. Solchat v2, which the team describes as carrying significant UI improvements and new features, is currently in a testing phase. The publicly available solchat-sdk TypeScript repository on GitHub allows third-party developers to integrate Solchat's messaging layer into other Solana applications.

Team and Positioning

Solchat's team has not been publicly identified. The February 2024 launch announcement credited a single individual holding both the CEO and CTO roles, without naming them. The Solrocket team provided support during the presale phase. Solchat carries community-published ownership status on Solana Compass.

The project competes in a small but growing segment of wallet-native communication tools on Solana. Its differentiation is the breadth of its communication stack—text, audio, video, payments, and shared collaboration tools—within a single wallet-connected interface, rather than functioning purely as a notification layer or developer-focused messaging protocol. Whether Solchat's active user figures (self-reported at over 50,000 with more than 1 million chats processed) can be independently verified remains unclear, but the on-chain architecture means message activity is visible on Solana explorers for anyone who queries the associated program addresses.
