Samoyedcoin

Solana's original memecoin and community onboarding experiment.

About

Samoyedcoin

Samoyedcoin (SAMO) launched in April 2021 as the first memecoin deployed on the Solana blockchain. Rather than positioning itself as a purely speculative asset, SAMO was designed from the outset as a community-driven experiment in Web3 onboarding, using the cultural pull of a dog-themed meme coin to introduce new participants to Solana and educate them about decentralized finance.

Core Mechanism and Token Design

SAMO is a Solana SPL token with the contract address 7xKXtg2CW87d97TXJSDpbD5jBkheTqA83TZRuJosgAsU. The project's original token supply was significantly larger, but the team executed a multi-stage burn program throughout 2021 and 2022. The "Final Burn Event," which involved burning 54% of the initial total supply across a series of monthly burns, concluded in 2022. Following those burns, the permanent maximum supply stands at approximately 4.746 billion SAMO. As of mid-2026, circulating supply sits at approximately 3.657 billion tokens.

The token leverages Solana's throughput and low transaction costs. The project highlights a per-transaction fee of roughly $0.00025, positioning Solana as the right infrastructure for a community coin meant to be actively used rather than purely held.

Mission and Community Model

The stated mission is to establish Samoyedcoin as Solana's ambassador by pushing the limits of what is possible for a Web3 community. The project explicitly frames itself as an educational and cultural vehicle: onboarding new users to Solana, connecting them with the DeFi ecosystem, and demonstrating community-driven project management.

Community governance is handled through SamoDAO, which was funded with a 100 million SAMO treasury. SAMO holders can participate in governance votes covering tokenomics decisions, partnerships, and community initiatives. The project has historically emphasized transparency and a community-first culture over centralized marketing.

DeFi Integrations and Exchange Listings

SAMO is integrated into several Solana DeFi platforms including Orca, Raydium, Solend, and MarginFi, giving holders access to liquidity provision, trading, and lending use cases. On the centralized exchange side, SAMO has been listed on Kraken, Gemini, KuCoin, and Gate.io. OKX delisted SAMO pairs in June 2025, citing unmet listing criteria; that delisting removed roughly 15% of the token's 30-day trading volume.

NFTs and Roadmap

The project has developed a SAMO NFT line (V2) offering customizable traits and exclusive community access benefits. Broader roadmap items announced for 2025-2026 include sponsoring Solana Hacker Houses to drive developer engagement, a Samoyedcoin Mastercard enabling real-world purchases with SAMO, and a cross-chain bridge called Samo Swap targeting Ethereum and Cosmos connectivity.

Team and History

Samoyedcoin launched on April 1, 2021, timed alongside the broader Solana ecosystem growth of that period. The project airdropped 1 million SAMO to approximately 2,000 early community members at launch. Governance and ongoing development are managed through SamoDAO rather than a named founding team. The official Medium blog documented quarterly recaps and development milestones through 2021 and early 2022 but has not published new content since July 2022. Active community coordination continues through Discord and social channels.

Market Context and Solana Fit

SAMO reached an all-time high of $0.246 in October 2021 during the peak of the first Solana memecoin cycle. As of mid-2026, the token trades near $0.00024, a drawdown of approximately 99.9% from its ATH, with a market capitalization of roughly $880,000 and around 66,000 on-chain holders per CoinMarketCap data.

As the original dog-themed memecoin on Solana, SAMO occupies a historically significant position in the network's ecosystem, predating the broader Solana memecoin expansion by several years. Its community-ambassador framing distinguishes it conceptually from later purely speculative memecoins, though it competes for attention and liquidity in a significantly more crowded Solana memecoin landscape than the one it launched into.

No third-party security audits have been publicly documented for the SAMO token contracts.
