About

MoonPay

MoonPay is a regulated crypto payments infrastructure company that lets individuals buy, sell, and swap digital assets through a consumer app and lets developers embed those same capabilities into their own products via a hosted widget or headless API. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Miami, it has accumulated more than 35 million accounts and grown through a series of acquisitions into a multi-product platform spanning on-ramps, off-ramps, token swaps, stablecoin payments, and AI-driven DeFi tooling — with Solana increasingly central to its infrastructure strategy.

The Core Problem MoonPay Solves

Converting between fiat currency and on-chain assets has historically required users to navigate lengthy exchange sign-up flows, comply with multi-day know-your-customer checks, and manage separate wallets for every network they want to use. For developers building wallets or dApps, building compliant payment rails from scratch is expensive and legally complex. MoonPay abstracts both problems: users get a single account with a familiar payments UX, and developers get a drop-in integration that handles KYC, payment processing, and regulatory compliance without building those systems internally.

How It Works

Consumer Layer

The MoonPay app and web interface expose three primary actions:

Buy — Users fund crypto purchases with debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, Cash App Pay, bank transfers (SEPA, ACH, wire), and regional methods such as Interac and Paysafe. The checkout process is designed for speed, with guest checkout available for first-time buyers who have not created an account.

Sell — Users initiate a sell order, send on-chain assets to a MoonPay deposit address, and receive fiat disbursed to a linked bank account or card. The flow mirrors a traditional exchange off-ramp but is embedded in the same interface as the buy flow.

Trade — MoonPay routes cross-token and cross-chain swaps, including bridging between networks, from within the app. Following its May 2026 acquisition of DFlow, Solana swaps are executed through DFlow's just-in-time routing engine (described below).

MoonTags allow users to assign a human-readable username to their MoonPay account so they can receive peer-to-peer transfers without sharing a raw wallet address.

Developer Layer

MoonPay provides two integration paths for business customers:

Hosted Widget — A pre-built, co-branded checkout experience where MoonPay handles KYC, payment processing, and UI. Integration requires a few lines of code and can be completed in hours. More than 500 applications have integrated this path, including MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Ledger, OpenSea, and Phantom.

Developer Platform — A headless API and embedded frame system that lets exchanges and fintechs build their own UI over MoonPay's payment rails. This path takes longer to implement but gives integrators complete control over the user experience while delegating compliance and settlement to MoonPay.

The developer API supports on-ramp, off-ramp, customer connection (so returning MoonPay users skip re-verification in third-party apps), and embedded frame components.

Supported Assets and Networks

On the consumer side, supported assets include Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Cardano (ADA), Dogecoin (DOGE), XRP, Avalanche (AVAX), Polygon (POL), USDC, DAI, Aave (AAVE), Chainlink (LINK), Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), and many others across more than 30 blockchain networks. MoonPay's ChatGPT integration, launched in 2026, supports more than 100 tokens.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

MoonPay's Solana involvement has expanded substantially beyond listing SOL as a supported asset.

DFlow Acquisition (May 2026): MoonPay paid $100 million in stock for DFlow, a Solana-native DEX aggregator and execution layer. DFlow uses just-in-time routing — rather than computing trade routes at order submission, it re-evaluates venue prices at the point of on-chain settlement and reroutes within the same transaction if prices have moved. The result is better execution reliability and reduced slippage compared to static routing. By the time of acquisition, DFlow served more than 1 million active traders across 500+ applications, processed roughly 10 million transactions per month, and had accumulated over $50 billion in cumulative trading volume since April 2025. In Q1 2026 alone it processed $12 billion. During peak periods, over 85% of Solana blocks contained DFlow-powered transactions, and Coinbase designated it as its primary Solana router. In November 2025, DFlow briefly surpassed Jupiter in daily DEX volume — a benchmark that had not previously been reached by another aggregator.

Solana Pay and MoonPay Commerce: In October 2025, MoonPay launched MoonPay Commerce, a unified crypto payments platform built on technology from its acquisition of Helio. MoonPay Commerce powers Solana Pay for Shopify, enabling merchants to accept instant, low-cost crypto payments at checkout. More than 6,000 businesses joined the Commerce platform at launch, including the Solana Foundation, Ledger, and CoinMarketCap.

PayBox and DeFi via AI Agents (2026): MoonPay launched PayBox in July 2026, a non-custodial payment vault that allows AI agents — including Claude and ChatGPT — to propose and execute on-chain transactions on behalf of users without ever holding private keys. In August 2026, MoonPay integrated Kamino Finance, a Solana lending protocol with approximately $1.3 billion in total value locked, into PayBox. Users can instruct an AI assistant in natural language to supply tokens for yield or borrow USDC against collateral on Kamino; the assistant either seeks approval for each transaction or acts autonomously within user-defined limits.

Regulatory Standing and Security

MoonPay is a registered money service business in the United States (NMLS ID: 2071245) and holds an Electronic Money License in the Netherlands. It achieved SOC 2 Type 2 certification, which was extended in 2026 to include Privacy within the Trust Services Criteria and to cover additional platforms. The company conducts KYC/AML compliance in-house across the jurisdictions it operates in.

Team and Background

MoonPay was founded by Ivan Soto-Wright (CEO) and Victor Faramond. The company has been acquisitive since 2025, completing six deals over an 18-month period. Major acquisitions include DFlow (Solana DEX aggregator, $100M all-stock, May 2026), Helio (merchant crypto payments, powering MoonPay Commerce, 2025), Iron (enterprise stablecoin infrastructure, forming the basis of MoonPay Enterprise), and Glide (deposit technology, integrated into MoonPay Deposits). CEO Soto-Wright has stated publicly that the acquisition strategy is intended to build a "full-stack crypto platform" ahead of a potential public market debut. MoonPay describes its four strategic pillars as: fund, tokenize, trade, and spend.

Current Status

MoonPay is actively operating with a consumer app rated 4.4 stars on the App Store and 4.5 stars on Google Play across more than 100,000 Trustpilot reviews. The platform reported approximately $107.6 million in revenue in 2025. Through the DFlow acquisition, it now controls significant Solana on-chain infrastructure in addition to its fiat-crypto gateway business.
