Moonboi Universe is a free-to-play, Web3 cyber-fantasy RPG built on Solana that combines story-driven gameplay with a player-owned economy powered by hybrid NFTs and the studio's native THENTI (TNT) token — designed to bring blockchain gaming to audiences who have never held a crypto wallet.

Setting and Story

The game is set in 2525, inside Mech Mecca, a sprawling, neon-lit mega-city dominated by a fictional FAANG megacorporation. Players step into the boots of Dre, a young protagonist who ventures beyond his domed city after an alien invasion severs contact with his father aboard a space command vessel. The narrative arc ultimately leads toward the Moon itself, threading action sequences and emotional character encounters through a world that borrows aesthetics from cyberpunk, anime, and classic pixel-art RPGs.

Moon Boi Studios describes the IP as the "first hip-hop cyber-fantasy RPG on Solana," a label that reflects a deliberate creative identity: the founders drew on meme culture, Trinidad and Tobago roots, and the studio's UK base to build a game with a distinct personality rather than a generic Web3 lookalike.

Core Mechanism and Gameplay

Moonboi Universe is a 2.5D isometric open-world RPG with action-based battles, puzzle sequences, and mission-driven progression. Gameplay spans diverse in-game terrains populated by characters the studio describes as having emotional backstories and quirky traits. The design cites Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and RuneScape as reference points for depth and replayability.

A key structural feature is the in-game digital billboard and property system. Players and real-world brands can rent advertising space within Mech Mecca, creating an economic layer where the game environment itself becomes a market for digital real estate. In early partnership demonstrations, Moon Boi Studios integrated a token-gated BONK Barkade arcade and represented a Bitaxe Bitcoin miner as an in-game collectible asset, showing how external Web3 partnerships map into gameplay assets.

The game targets mobile-first delivery across iOS and Android, with availability also on PC, Mac, and the Solana dApp Store. This cross-platform approach, combined with a free-to-play entry point, reflects an explicit ambition to serve both Web3-native players and mainstream gaming audiences unfamiliar with blockchain mechanics.

SPL-404 Integration and Hybrid NFTs

Moonboi Universe's blockchain layer is built around the SPL-404 standard, Solana's hybrid token architecture that merges the properties of fungible tokens and NFTs into a single asset class. Under SPL-404, a digital collectible can be held as an NFT, retaining its unique traits and rarity, or redeemed for its underlying fungible token equivalent and switched back again. This addresses a longstanding tension in NFT gaming between the speculative value locked in unique assets and the liquid, tradeable utility of in-game currencies.

In Moonboi Universe, players unlock digital collectibles through gameplay tasks or marketplace purchases. These assets carry both rarity-based speculative potential and immediate in-game utility, functioning as power-ups, cosmetic customization options, or tradeable inventory. The Moon Boi Marketplace provides the trading venue for these assets.

THENTI (TNT) Token

The THENTI token, ticker TNT, is the player-owned economy token native to Moonboi Universe. The name is a nod to the founder's Trinidadian and Tobagonian roots, and within the game's lore it represents a powerful source of energy combining blockchain technology with in-game mechanics.

TNT serves several functions within the economy: it authenticates valuable in-game assets and power-ups tied to the SPL-404 NFT layer; it incentivizes player participation and community-voted development sprints; it enables wagering in PvP challenges, both skill-based and luck-based; and a token-burning mechanism reduces supply over time as TNT is consumed in play.

The token was planned for launch via Jupiter's LFG launchpad in April 2024, positioning Moon Boi Studios within the Jupiter ecosystem's community-driven token introduction framework.

Team and Background

Moon Boi Studios was founded in summer 2022 by Ems, a UK-based creator with twenty years of sales and marketing experience and two years building on Solana. The studio grew to a ten-member team assembled largely around the SuperteamUK community, including an art director specializing in pixel art, a game designer with a Master's degree in Computer Science and over five years of professional game design experience, a UI designer with a Master's in Game Development, a creative writer who is a published fiction author, two concept artists, and a pair of composers with fifteen to twenty-plus years of credits spanning music and gaming projects.

The team built Moonboi Universe on a bootstrap budget from August 2022, without external funding in its early stages. The founder was initially skeptical of hackathons as a path to growth, but community encouragement within SuperteamUK led to participation in the Solana Speedrun Hackathon, the first gaming-focused Solana hackathon. Moonboi Universe won both the BONK Track award and the Community Fund award in that competition.

That early win opened further doors. Moon Boi Studios went on to place fourth in the Gaming Track at the Solana Renaissance Hackathon in 2024, a competition that drew more than 8,300 participants from over 95 countries, producing 1,071 project submissions, with only 34 total winners across all tracks. Moonboi Universe was the only UK-based team to place in the event.

Following the Renaissance Hackathon, Solana featured Moonboi Universe on the Saga dApp Store, and the project attracted investor interest. UK rapper Big Narstie publicly engaged with the game, providing organic mainstream visibility. The project received pre-approval from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

Ecosystem Fit

Moonboi Universe sits at the intersection of several active areas in the Solana ecosystem: mobile-first gaming via the Solana Saga dApp Store, hybrid NFT infrastructure through SPL-404, community token launches via Jupiter's LFG, and cross-ecosystem brand integrations with partners such as BONK.
