Product Keynote: MetaDAO

MetaDAO is positioning itself as the home of ownership coins, a new category of crypto assets designed to solve two of the industry's most persistent problems: teams walking away with user funds, and successful projects that never return value to token holders.
MetaDAO
MetaDAO is a governance and fundraising protocol built on Solana that implements futarchy — a decision-making system first proposed by economist Robin Hanson in 2007 — in a live production environment. It launched in November 2023 with approximately 65 participants and a $10,000 treasury, and has since evolved into a dual-purpose platform: an on-chain governance system for Solana projects and an ICO launchpad designed to reduce information asymmetry between project founders and token buyers. The core claim underlying MetaDAO is that prediction markets are more reliable decision-makers than token-weighted voting, because they force participants to put capital behind their beliefs and face financial consequences if they are wrong. When a proposal is submitted — any wallet can submit one — two conditional token markets open simultaneously: a PASS market and a FAIL market. Participants who believe the proposal will benefit the organization buy into the PASS market; skeptics buy into the FAIL market. Each side receives conditional tokens backed by the underlying asset but only redeemable if that outcome is realized. After a 24-hour delay period for evaluation, a 10-day trading window begins. The protocol tracks a lagging Time-Weighted Average Price (TWAP) on both markets using a custom OpenBook TWAP oracle derived from Uniswap V2 methodology, which constrains each observation to move by a limited amount per update cycle. This structure makes it harder to manipulate resolution by temporarily shifting the spot price. If the PASS market TWAP ends at least 3% above the FAIL market TWAP for community-submitted proposals (or -3% for team-sponsored ones), the proposal executes automatically on-chain. Otherwise it fails. Trades in the losing market revert in full: participants receive their underlying collateral back. Only winners settle. As of mid-2026 MetaDAO has processed 96 proposals across 14 organizations. The protocol consists of three primary on-chain programs: Autocrat (orchestrates proposal initialization, TWAP monitoring, and execution), Conditional Vault (manages escrow for conditional token pairs), and the OpenBook TWAP oracle (custom pricing adapted from OpenBook V2 markets). All code is open-source on GitHub. The protocol collects a 0.25% trading fee on all Futarchy AMM trades flowing to the MetaDAO treasury. No formal third-party security audits have been publicly disclosed. MetaDAO offers its governance mechanism to other Solana protocols as Futarchy as a Service; adopters include Jito (fee switch proposal), Flash (revenue distribution), Sanctum (full governance migration), Drift, and ORE. MetaDAO has also built an ICO launchpad that addresses common failure modes: insider deals, misaligned vesting, hidden team allocations, and post-launch price pressure from high-FDV designs. The launchpad uses a capped contribution model with pro-rata token distribution; oversubscribed raises refund excess contributions automatically. At launch, 20% of raised funds plus a defined token allocation are deposited into an AMM liquidity pool, creating an immediate price floor. The STAMP (Simple Token Agreement, Market Protected) investment contract replaces SAFEs for pre-ICO fundraising. It routes private investor capital into restricted accounts, limits team token allocations to 10-40% of total supply, caps investor reserve at 20% of total tokens, and enforces 24-month linear vesting from a Delivery Notice event. As of early 2026 the launchpad had facilitated approximately $33 million in cumulative raises across 10 projects. Completed launches including Umbra Privacy (UMBRA), Avici Money (AVICI), and Omnipair (OMFG) showed an average all-time-high return of roughly 8.6x from ICO price. The protocol crossed $1 million in cumulative revenue from AMM trading fees. The governance token META (contract address METAwkXcqyXKy1AtsSgJ8JiUHwGCafnZL38n3vYmeta) migrated from legacy METAC via a 1:1,000 split in a fee-free one-way migration; circulating supply equals total supply at approximately 22.8 million META. There is no programmatic hard cap; any new issuance requires a governance-approved futarchy proposal to pass. META was listed on Coinbase in May 2026. A MiCA white paper was filed with the Irish financial regulator in July 2026 (Digital Token Identifier BQ53DH590; LEI 254900XHQIYLONV5P484). MetaDAO was co-founded by Proph3t (pseudonymous) and Kollan House, both present at the mtnDAO developer conference in Salt Lake City in February 2024. Robin Hanson, the George Mason University economist who first proposed futarchy in 2007, is listed as an advisor. Paradigm led a $2.2 million seed round in August 2024, acquiring approximately 3,035 META tokens, with ~30 additional angel investors acquiring 965 tokens in the same round. Further funding included $2.5 million from Variant and $1.5 million from 6MV. The first major institutional signal came in February 2024 when Pantera Capital submitted a governance proposal to acquire $50,000 of META at up to $100 per token; the announcement caused the spot price to surge from roughly $85 to over $1,000 before the proposal ultimately failed, demonstrating the mechanism resists endorsement-based capture. MetaDAO is active: governance markets run continuously with daily trading volume of $2-8 million across all conditional markets, protocol TVL is approximately $13 million as tracked by DeFiLlama, and the Coinbase listing in May 2026 marked a significant step in institutional accessibility for the META token.
