Itheum
Itheum is a multi-chain data infrastructure protocol that evolved from a Data NFT marketplace into a trust and tokenization layer for autonomous AI systems, with the $ITHEUM token serving as its governance and economic backbone across Solana, MultiversX, Sui, and Story.
Background and Protocol Evolution
Founded in 2016 and building on-chain infrastructure since 2021, Itheum has undergone three major protocol revisions. In its first two phases (V0 through V2), the project focused on personal data ownership and monetization through a standard it pioneered called Data NFTs — blockchain tokens representing ownership rights over encrypted off-chain data streams. Approximately 80,000 Data NFTs were minted across MultiversX and Solana during those phases.
In October 2025, Itheum released V3, codenamed Aithra, which consolidated seven years of development under a single mission: building a full-stack abstraction and unification layer for data tokenization, storage, encryption, and IP licensing tailored to the AI economy. The team describes the progression as moving from analog data (offline) to digital data (online, AI-ready) to "hyper-digital data" (on-chain, AGI-ready).
Sunsetting Earlier Products
Alongside the V3 pivot, Itheum formally retired its earlier consumer-facing products. The Data DEX marketplace on MultiversX reached end-of-service on November 15, 2025. The Itheum Explorer on both MultiversX and Solana went offline November 1, 2025. NFMe ID with Liveliness Staking and Bonding on both chains sunset January 15, 2026. Smart contracts from those deployments remain immutable on-chain, but user interfaces and protocol support have been deactivated.
Data NFTs to Hyper-Digital Data Assets
The Data NFT concept — wrapping an encrypted data stream in a token so that the NFT holder gains decrypted access while the creator retains custody — formed the core of Itheum's earlier model. Under Aithra, this primitive has been renamed and extended into "hyper-digital data assets," which add enhanced encryption layers, programmable IP licensing, and compatibility with AI agent workflows. The terminology shift moves away from the NFT brand, associated with static media, toward a data infrastructure framing suited to AI training datasets, media archives, and enterprise licensing.
Aithra Product Suite
Aithra introduced several new components built around the trust and tokenization theme:
Aithra Workspace UI is a web application that lets users drag-and-drop files to transform them into tokenized, privacy-controlled data assets. Target use cases include AI training datasets, music, and media archives.
SDK and MCP interface provides developer and agentic access to Aithra's tokenization features, allowing both traditional applications and autonomous AI agents to interact with the protocol programmatically.
Itheum Gateway is an enterprise-facing layer with Web2-compatible payment methods, positioned as the commercial interface over the open protocol — analogous to how Red Hat commercializes Linux for enterprises unfamiliar with open-source infrastructure.
Trust Standards Alliance is a collaborative body where community members, academics, and enterprise partners co-author trust benchmarks for AI systems. External participants include C2PA, SIGMA, Zedge Horizon, BONDED, and ICI.
Trust Pledges are natural-language trust statements formatted for LLM consumption, designed to provide real-time verifiability signals about the trustworthiness of individuals, AI-generated content, or autonomous agents.
Staked Identity bonds $ITHEUM tokens to digital identities, making trustworthiness economically consequential. Broken trust commitments result in slashed bonds, a portion of which is burned, creating an additional deflationary mechanic.
Trust Fabric is an SDK for embedding trust guardrails into autonomous workflows; described as launching in the near-term roadmap.
Multi-Chain Architecture
Itheum was built as a multi-chain protocol from early on. Its original infrastructure ran on MultiversX, where the Data NFT marketplace and the BiTz XP engagement system operated. The protocol expanded to Solana using compressed NFTs and the Token 2022 standard, with its first Solana drop distributed on DRiP Haus, the Solana-native content distribution platform. An on-chain cross-chain token bridge between Solana and MultiversX reached mainnet. Aithra extends the protocol further to Sui and Story for its newer trust and IP licensing primitives. The $ITHEUM token trades on Solana via Raydium and Jupiter, and on MultiversX via xExchange.
BiTz XP System
Before sunsetting, Itheum ran a gamified engagement mechanism called BiTz XP on both Solana and MultiversX. Users earned XP points through daily protocol interactions, which translated into on-chain "Liveliness" reputation scores backed by bonded $ITHEUM. Liveliness determined governance weight and unlocked participation in data bounties and token airdrops. The MultiversX BiTz system was discontinued in November 2025; Solana-based XP collection was partially preserved through ecosystem integrations such as Sigma Music.
ITHEUM Token
$ITHEUM is the protocol's governance and utility token, operating across both Solana and MultiversX. All tokens were fully vested before the current phase. A deflationary burn program began January 18, 2025 following a governance vote that passed with 2,023,100 votes in favor and zero against. Burns occur on a weekly schedule, with the rate tied to protocol usage volume — higher usage increases the burn rate. Tokens are additionally burned when Staked Identity bonds are slashed for broken trust commitments. Governance participation is proportional to a user's $ITHEUM-bonded Liveliness score.
Real-World Applications
Itheum has pursued applied use cases alongside its protocol development. In April 2025, the Teslaverse project used Itheum Data NFTs to tokenize and preserve historical archives from the Nikola Tesla Museum in a cultural preservation initiative. In June 2025, Itheum announced a partnership with Lighthouse, a decentralized storage provider integrating IPFS and Filecoin, to provide persistent encrypted storage for tokenized data assets.
Current State
As of mid-2026, Itheum is in a transition period. Its older marketplace and engagement infrastructure have been formally retired, and the team is building out the Aithra SDK and MCP layer (initially roadmapped for Q1 2026). The project's stated go-to-market focus is AI data infrastructure and gaming data monetization. With approximately 100,000 community members claimed, an active cross-chain token on major DEXes, and live institutional partnerships through the Trust Standards Alliance, the project remains operationally active while its technical repositioning toward the AI trust economy continues.
