Ship or Die at Accelerate 2025: Lightning Talk: Doodles

In a groundbreaking announcement at Accelerate 2025, Austin Hurwitz, head of strategy and business development at Doodles, unveiled DreamNet - a revolutionary storytelling protocol set to redefine the creative economy. ... To kick off this partnership, Doodles is organizing a character agent hackathon starting June 26 at Solana HQ in New York City.

About

Doodles

Doodles began in 2021 as a 10,000-piece Ethereum NFT collection of colorful, hand-drawn characters and has since evolved into a multi-product Web3 entertainment brand. The project's Solana chapter opened in earnest in May 2025 with the launch of the DOOD token and a Solana-native NFT collection called Doopies, followed by the debut of DreamNet — a decentralized protocol for AI-assisted collaborative storytelling. As of mid-2026 the project continues to ship new products, most recently Doodles AI (Prism 1.0) and an upcoming Factory experience.

Origins and Team

Doodles was co-founded by digital artist Scott Martin (known online as Burnt Toast), Evan Keast (Tulip), and Jordan Castro (Poopie). Keast and Castro both had prior experience building CryptoKitties at Dapper Labs, bringing early NFT infrastructure expertise to the project. Martin, a Canadian illustrator and designer whose client work spans Google, WhatsApp, and Snapchat, created the distinctive pastel-heavy character art that defined the collection's look.

The original 10,000 Ethereum NFTs — each with unique trait combinations across backgrounds, headwear, facial expressions, and body types — launched in June 2021. The project raised $54 million in a Series A round in September 2022 at a reported $704 million valuation, with Alexis Ohanian's Seven Seven Six venture firm leading. That same round brought Pharrell Williams on board as Chief Brand Officer, and the company acquired London-based animation studio Golden Wolf in 2023.

In January 2025, Scott Martin stepped back into the CEO role, replacing Julian Holguin, signaling a return to community and creative-first priorities after a period of commercially-oriented partnerships that holders had come to view as extractive. Martin publicly criticized hollow brand deals such as a Rubik's Cube collaboration that sold digital wearables with no functional utility, committing instead to "risk, disruption, radical transparency" and a community-first rebuilding.

Solana Expansion

Doodles chose Solana for its token and NFT expansion citing pragmatic reasons: fast throughput and low transaction costs make micro-interactions and creative tooling economically viable at scale. The DOOD token launched on May 9, 2025, with plans to bridge to Base (an Ethereum Layer 2) as the DreamNet protocol matures on that chain.

The Doopies collection — Doodles' Solana-native secondary character series — comprises 25,000 NFTs split between 20,000 Collector Cubes priced at 1 SOL each and 5,000 Hyper Cubes at 3 SOL each. Doopies occupy a complementary tier to the original Ethereum Doodles, designed to expand the universe's accessible entry points while keeping both communities tied to a shared ecosystem via the DOOD token.

DOOD Token

DOOD carries a fixed maximum supply of 10 billion tokens distributed as follows:

  • 30% — community airdrop (Doodles NFT holders and existing community)
  • 25% — ecosystem fund
  • 17% — team (one-year lock, three-year vest)
  • 13% — "New Blood" (Solana-native user acquisition incentives)
  • 10% — liquidity
  • 5% — Doodles Inc.

Community and ecosystem categories together account for 68% of supply. At launch DOOD traded near $0.0076 with a market cap around $59 million, briefly peaking above $0.012 before settling. The token launch triggered a 100%-plus spike in original Doodles NFT sales volume on Ethereum, with daily trading exceeding $2.4 million.

Scott Martin positioned DOOD as initially targeting meme coin market dynamics while building toward genuine utility as a currency inside DreamNet and forthcoming gamified Doodles applications. Each token type within DreamNet is liquidity-paired directly with DOOD, so the base token functions as the settlement layer across the entire creative economy.

DreamNet

DreamNet is the project's most technically ambitious initiative — a decentralized protocol for collaborative, AI-assisted worldbuilding. The whitepaper launched March 27, 2025, concurrent with Martin resuming the CEO role.

The protocol's structure centers on four token types:

  • $DOOD — the base currency for all in-protocol transactions; used to pay for AI-generated content, stake for rewards, or earn from narrative contributions
  • Universe Tokens — issued per fictional world; creators earn these when their universe gains traction and others build on top of it
  • Agent Tokens — tied to specific characters within a universe; token value reflects character popularity and downstream usage
  • Place Tokens — similarly tied to settings and locations within a story world

At the protocol level, DreamNet maintains WorldState — a dynamic ledger that records creative contributions, tracks canonical status, and maps interdependencies between characters, places, and lore. When third-party games, applications, or media draw from a universe's WorldState, reference fees flow back to original creators and token holders.

The design draws on the economics of large media franchises — the kind of interlocking canon that defines properties like Star Wars or Pokemon — but makes participation and ownership programmable onchain. AI assists in generating content suggestions and filling narrative gaps, while human contributors retain economic stake in the universes they help build.

Other Products

Stoodio is an app layer that allows holders to customize and create Doodles-style characters, functioning as a lower-friction entry point for users unfamiliar with NFT mechanics.

Doodles 2 introduced wearables and companion assets designed to layer onto the original collection, extending its visual vocabulary beyond the base 10,000.

Doodles AI (Prism 1.0) launched in March 2026 as a proprietary image generation model trained exclusively on Doodles-owned IP. The model enables on-brand AI-generated content within the ecosystem without third-party licensing conflicts, and feeds directly into DreamNet's content generation tooling.

The Factory — referenced in August 2026 project communications — is a forthcoming product experience scheduled to open August 19, 2026. Specific mechanics had not been publicly disclosed at the time of writing.

Ecosystem Fit on Solana

Doodles represents a distinct category of Solana project: a high-profile Ethereum-native NFT brand that has deliberately extended onto Solana rather than migrated away from its origin chain. The project's Solana presence — Doopies NFTs, DOOD token, and DreamNet's token infrastructure — exploits Solana's throughput advantages for the interactive and micro-transactional elements of its roadmap, while the original Ethereum collection retains its provenance and secondary market history.

The decision to launch DOOD on Solana rather than Ethereum was straightforward on cost grounds: the micro-interactions DreamNet requires — creating characters, staking tokens, paying reference fees — are economically impractical at Ethereum gas prices. The planned Base bridge keeps Ethereum-side compatibility for longer-term DreamNet infrastructure while the community-facing economy runs on Solana.

The project's continued shipping pace — DOOD and Doopies in May 2025, DreamNet whitepaper in March 2025, Doodles AI in March 2026, Factory in August 2026 — reflects an active development organization rebuilding around its community after a period of brand overextension.
