Homebase platform
Homebase is a blockchain-based real estate investment platform that allows users to buy fractional ownership of rental properties, receive monthly rental income, and manage their portfolio through a decentralized, transparent system.
Homebase
Homebase is a real estate tokenization platform built on Solana that converts residential rental properties into fractional NFT shares, allowing individuals to invest in single-family homes for as little as $100 and receive proportional monthly rental income in USDC.
Core Mechanism
When a property is selected for tokenization, Homebase wraps the real estate asset using a custom token wrapper built on the Metaplex protocol. The wrapper modifies standard Solana NFTs with compliance features: it enables Homebase to freeze, burn, and reissue tokens as required; enforces KYC requirements at the smart contract layer; and holds investor funds in escrow until crowdfunding targets are met. Once fully subscribed, tokens are distributed to investors representing their fractional ownership stake. Monthly rental distributions flow in USDC via a partnership with Circle.
To comply with U.S. securities law under Regulation D, each property token carries a one-year lockup period before it can be resold. After the lockup expires, tokens can be sold at the fair market value of the underlying home as determined by a third-party pricing partner. Fiat on/off-ramps are integrated through CoinFlow, allowing investors to withdraw rental income directly to a bank account without needing to manage crypto manually.
Key Products and Features
- Fractional property ownership: Investors purchase tokenized shares in vetted single-family rental properties; the platform handles all property management including tenant screening and maintenance.
- Monthly rent distribution: USDC rental income is sent directly to investor wallets each month, proportional to ownership stake.
- Reg D compliance wrapper: The Metaplex-based token wrapper encodes KYC, escrow, lock-up, and reissuance controls directly into the token.
- Low entry point: The platform targets non-institutional retail investors; the minimum investment per property offering is $500 with an average check size of approximately $4,000-$5,000.
- Commercial expansion: As of mid-2023, Homebase was developing back-office software for commercial real estate syndicators, extending the model beyond single-family residential.
Tokens and Assets
Properties are represented as property-specific NFTs on Solana. USDC (via Circle on Solana) is the exclusive transaction currency for both purchasing shares and receiving distributions. There is no separate platform utility token.
Team and Background
Homebase was co-founded by Domingo Valadez (CEO), Alexander K (CTO), and Basile Fengos. Valadez previously worked as a product strategist at Google and holds degrees in Finance and Real Estate from Wharton. Alexander K graduated cum laude in mechanical engineering from Tufts and worked at iRobot and Sensata. Fengos studied engineering at Concordia and previously worked at Morgan Stanley and Amazon. The founding team completed the Techstars accelerator program.
The company spent seven months on legal and compliance preparation before its February 2023 launch, partnering with law firm Hunton Andrews Kurth to structure the Regulation D exemption framework. The platform had over 1,600 registered users as of September 2023.
Key Milestones
In March 2023, Homebase tokenized its first property — a $235,000 single-family rental home in McAllen, Texas — raising $246,800 from 38 investors in under two weeks. Fifteen of those 38 investors opened their first Solana wallet specifically for the purchase, illustrating the platform's reach beyond existing crypto users. A second property in the same area, valued at $176,100, followed in June 2023 and attracted another 38 investors.
Across both early offerings, approximately 78% of investors were non-institutional. Homebase received coverage from Techstars, Messari, The Block, CoinMarketCap, and Blockworks, and was the subject of a case study published by Solana Foundation.
Why Solana
Homebase evaluated multiple blockchains before committing to Solana. Key selection factors included low and predictable transaction fees (compared to alternatives), Solana's native USDC integration through Circle, the quality of developer tooling for building compliant token wrappers, and the overall user experience achievable for investors unfamiliar with crypto. The founders explicitly rejected Layer 2 solutions due to bridging complexity and sought a chain where the user interface could feel as seamless as a conventional bank portal.
Audit Status
No public smart contract audit has been documented in available sources. The platform's compliance strategy has focused on legal structure (Regulation D, KYC integration) rather than published technical security audits.
Solana Ecosystem Fit
Homebase operates within the real-world asset (RWA) tokenization vertical on Solana, alongside other platforms bringing off-chain assets on-chain. It uses USDC and Metaplex infrastructure natively and has partnered with Circle and CoinFlow for payment rails. The broader RWA sector on Solana grew 141% in 2025 according to Messari data, situating Homebase within one of the ecosystem's more actively developing verticals.
