Solana Foundation president Lily Liu says Accelerate Shanghai registrations quadrupled past the cap filed with local authorities; no new date has been set.

Solana Accelerate Shanghai Postponed Over Registration Cap, Says Foundation President Lily Liu

Solana Foundation president Lily Liu has given the Foundation's reason for postponing Solana Accelerate Shanghai, the opener of its Accelerate China tour: registrations quadrupled overnight and went far past the attendance cap organisers had registered with local authorities. Liu posted the statement on X at 08:51 UTC on 16 October 2026, hours after the event was called off on the morning it was due to start. She gave no new date.

The explanation is more specific than the first word from organisers. As we reported earlier on 16 October, the notice sent to registered guests cited only "logistical considerations at the venue". Liu's post names an attendance cap held with the authorities and says the Shanghai event was postponed to comply with local requirements.

Lily Liu's statement on the Solana Accelerate Shanghai postponement

Liu opened by saying "We put Solana on the big screen because that's the big heart Solana has for the Chinese community", and put the surge down to that publicity: "Due to the publicity, event registrations quadrupled overnight, far exceeding the event cap we had registered with local authorities, and we had no way to prevent people from overwhelming the venue."

She went on: "So, in order to comply with local requirements, we are going to postpone this event for when we can better accommodate the breadth and scale of our community." The post apologised to those who had travelled to attend and closed with "See you soon!" The Defiant also reported the registration surge as the reason for the postponement.

What the Solana Foundation statement leaves open

Liu's post does not mention the law-enforcement officers that attendees said were at the Shangri-La hotel on the morning of 16 October, as covered in our earlier report. Those accounts come from attendees, and neither the Solana Foundation nor any Chinese authority has said why officers were there. The Foundation's own @SolanaFndn account had posted nothing about Shanghai in the 12 hours to about 09:30 UTC.

Replies to Liu's post asked whether the Hangzhou and Beijing stops would go ahead, and she had not answered them by the same time.

Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing stops on the Accelerate China tour

The remaining three stops of the four-city Solana SOL$105.92+3.1% developer tour have not been changed publicly. The official Accelerate China page still listed Shanghai on 16 October, Hangzhou on 18 October, Shenzhen on 20 October and Beijing on 22 October as "Upcoming" when we checked at about 09:30 UTC, with no notice about the Shanghai postponement.

The Defiant reported that the registration pages for Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing show sign-ups closed. The Foundation has not said whether that reflects demand, a change of plan or something else, and Liu's statement covers Shanghai only. Hangzhou, listed for Sunday 18 October, is the next stop that will show whether the tour continues as scheduled.
