London Stock Exchange Partners with Payward to Tokenize Top 100 UK Equities as xStocks

Payward, the parent company of Kraken, and the London Stock Exchange reached an agreement on August 31 to tokenize the 100 largest LSE-listed companies as xStocks AAPLx$317.17-1.6%, adding UK blue-chip equity exposure to the Solana-based tokenized equities framework that generated more than $40 billion in trading volume during its first year.

The 100 largest LSE-listed equities will be available through Kraken and xStocks Alliance platforms "within weeks" to eligible investors, according to the official announcement. Subject to regulatory approval, the London Stock Exchange plans to list and support trading of xStocks on LSE 24, its recently announced near-continuous trading venue, with plans to eventually expand to tokenized equities from the US, EU, UK, and Hong Kong as the framework grows.

UK Blue-Chips as xStocks: Partnership Scope

Each xStock is an SPL token on Solana backed 1:1 by the underlying listed share, tradeable 24/7 across centralized exchanges, self-custody wallets, and DeFi applications. Holders receive economic exposure and reinvested dividends. Voting rights attached to ordinary shares are not transferred, though Payward and Broadridge announced a separate collaboration to give xStocks holders a mechanism to participate in corporate governance.

xStocks are issued through Backed Assets (JE) Limited, a Jersey-incorporated entity that handles the underlying share custody as part of the Payward infrastructure.

Three days before this announcement, xStocks arrived in Kraken Wallet with 700 tokenized stocks and ETFs for 24/7 on-chain trading. That rollout covered US and EU equities. The LSE partnership extends the catalog to the UK's 100 largest listed companies.

Payward Co-CEO Arjun Sethi described the structural convergence in the official xStocks announcement.

Julia Hoggett, CEO of LSE plc and Head of Digital and Securities Markets at LSEG, framed the exchange's participation around regulated-market integrity. "Tokenization has the potential to change how investors access, and how issuers use, financial markets, but it must develop in a way that preserves the trust, rights and role of regulated markets," Hoggett said in the announcement.

LSE 24 and the Path to Exchange Listing

LSE 24 is the London Stock Exchange's planned near-continuous trading venue, operating Monday through Friday for approximately 24 hours each day. Market makers maintain pricing during off-hours using alternative trading systems, index futures, and internal models when the primary exchange is closed. According to Finance Magnates' reporting on the agreement, client testing is expected to begin by end of 2026, with a first ETP launch window in the first half of 2027. The listing of xStocks on LSE 24 remains subject to regulatory approval, and no decision date has been announced.

An exchange-level listing would mark a structural step beyond how xStocks currently trade. Deutsche BΓΆrse launched xStocks through its 360X regulated secondary venue in February, and Crypto.com opened European access on August 12, but neither is an exchange listing in the traditional sense. Placing xStocks on an LSE order book would put them alongside conventionally issued equities inside a regulated exchange, rather than on a parallel crypto-native venue.

The two firms are also exploring a more ambitious structure: native LSE-issued equity tokens, in which companies would issue equity directly on-chain carrying the same legal rights as conventional shares. That initiative is described as exploratory with no announced timeline.

xStocks' $40 Billion First Year

The xStocks framework launched in June 2025 and reached more than 200,000 holders in 110 countries by the time of this announcement, generating $40 billion in total trading volume with more than $20 billion settled onchain across its first year.

As we covered in the Q2 2026 Solana tokenized stock volume report, xStocks held 58% of all tokenized equity DeFi deposits on Solana across 15 applications by mid-year, with positions distributed across Jupiter JUP$0.218+4.1%, Raydium RAY$0.812+2.8%, Kamino Finance KMNO$0.024-3.8%, and other major protocols.

Access and Regulatory Structure

xStocks are currently not available to residents of the United States, United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions where they are unauthorized. The UK exclusion applies to the initial xStocks rollout ahead of this announcement; the longer-term aim is for UK investors to access UK-listed xStocks through LSE 24 once regulatory approval is in place.

The framework operates under Bermuda Monetary Authority regulation. EU access runs through Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Ltd., a Cyprus-based entity with MiFID II compliance. These structures have been in place since the xStocks framework launched and are unchanged by the LSE agreement. The partnership adds a new distribution channel and the potential for a regulated exchange listing, not a change to the underlying custody or issuance structure.

Solana's Tokenized Equity Position

Solana handled approximately 95% of global on-chain tokenized equity spot trading volume for much of 2026, according to data from the rwa.xyz tokenized stocks dashboard. The July monthly recap recorded $1.45 billion in tokenized equity volume with 82% global market share, built on xStocks' issuance depth and the DeFi composability that Solana's infrastructure enables.

The LSE partnership does not alter Solana's technical role in the xStocks stack. The SPL token infrastructure and onchain settlement layer remain the same. What changes is the supply of assets on that infrastructure and, if LSE 24 listing clears regulators, the regulatory surface on which those assets trade. A tokenized equities market that spent its first year building distribution through crypto-native channels would, through a direct exchange listing, acquire a different kind of institutional entry point entirely.
