Charles Schwab to Offer Spot SOL, AVAX, and LINK Through Schwab Crypto

Charles Schwab announced Thursday it plans to add spot trading for SOL (SOL), AVAX (AVAX), and Chainlink (LINK) to Schwab Crypto, its direct digital asset trading platform. The expansion puts three additional tokens within reach of the brokerage's 39.9 million active accounts, which collectively hold $13.04 trillion in client assets as of July 31, 2026.

Schwab Crypto has offered only Bitcoin and Ether since the platform's launch. The additions, which Schwab described as coming "in the coming months" with no specific date, would mark the platform's first expansion beyond its original two assets.

What SOL, AVAX, and LINK Spot Trading Looks Like on Schwab

Clients who sign up for early access will be able to trade SOL, AVAX, and LINK directly inside their existing Schwab brokerage accounts. The fee structure stays the same as for Bitcoin and Ether: 75 basis points on the dollar value of each trade, with no custody fee. Geographic restrictions apply; the service is currently unavailable in New York and Louisiana, and not offered in U.S. territories or international markets.

Joe Vietri, Schwab's head of digital assets, pointed to client demand as the basis for the selection. "With this expansion, clients will have more choices to build a digital asset allocation alongside the investing and banking experience they know and trust at Schwab," Vietri told Yahoo Finance. The brokerage said it plans to add more cryptocurrencies over time.

From SOL Futures to SOL Spot: How Schwab's Crypto Coverage Has Grown

Schwab's path to spot SOL has moved in two tracks. In June 2026, the firm added 24/7 Solana and Micro Solana futures to thinkorswim, the first Schwab product to trade around the clock. Futures give exposure to SOL's price but do not settle the underlying token. The Schwab Crypto additions announced Thursday would deliver the actual asset, held in client accounts with no separate wallet required.

The announcement follows E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley, which launched spot Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana trading in July 2026 at a 50-basis-point fee via Zero Hash. Schwab charges 25 basis points more and has not disclosed a custody partner for the new tokens.

Schwab's RIA Channel Spot Trading Targets Mid-2027

For registered investment advisors, the rollout timeline runs longer. According to The Defiant, Schwab has communicated a mid-2027 target for spot trading and custody through its RIA channel. The retail Schwab Crypto expansion announced Thursday is a separate track.

The distinction matters because advisors operating under fiduciary obligations typically require a custodial arrangement before allocating client assets to a new asset class. Until that track opens, advisors on the Schwab platform would need to route crypto allocations elsewhere or wait for the firm to extend its retail infrastructure to their accounts.
