About

Worldpay

Worldpay is one of the world's largest non-bank payment processors, processing over $2.3 trillion annually across more than 40 billion transactions in 146 countries. The company is integrating Solana into its payments infrastructure through two distinct partnerships: membership in the Global Dollar Network for stablecoin-based merchant settlement, and early adoption of the Solana Developer Platform for onchain settlement and tokenized asset access.

Company Background

Worldpay serves enterprises, small and mid-sized businesses, software platforms, and marketplaces with a suite of payment products organized around five functions: accepting payments online and in-store, protecting against fraud and disputes, optimizing revenue and routing, embedding payments into platforms and marketplaces, and moving money through multi-currency payouts. The company lists crypto as one of its industry verticals alongside more traditional sectors such as retail, travel, and financial services. Worldpay describes nearly a decade of involvement at the intersection of traditional finance and digital assets.

Global Dollar Network and USDG Settlement

In April 2025, Worldpay joined the Global Dollar Network, a consortium of over 100 financial institutions built around the USDG stablecoin. USDG is a 1:1 USD-pegged stablecoin issued by Paxos Digital Singapore, which launched on Solana in February 2025. As of 2025, 57% of all USDG is issued on Solana, making it the network's dominant chain for that asset.

Membership in the Global Dollar Network enables Worldpay merchants to settle transactions in USDG alongside traditional payment methods. The stated benefits are faster settlement — including same-day or T+0 finality compared to legacy T+2 or T+3 settlement windows — lower cross-border fees, and the elimination of intermediary currency conversions. Worldpay has reported cutting payment processing times by 50% through its adoption of USDG for settlement.

Ahmed Zifzaf, Worldpay's head of crypto partnerships, framed the integration as part of the company's broader commitment to delivering payment technology that reduces friction and expands financial access across global markets.

Other members of the Global Dollar Network include DBS Bank, Robinhood, Kraken, Galaxy Digital, and Anchorage Digital.

Solana Developer Platform

In March 2026, the Solana Foundation launched the Solana Developer Platform (SDP), an API-driven toolkit enabling enterprises and financial institutions to build and deploy financial products on Solana without requiring deep blockchain infrastructure expertise. Worldpay is among the platform's named early adopters, alongside Mastercard and Western Union.

The SDP bundles infrastructure from more than 20 technology partners into a single interface and is organized into three modules:

  • Issuance — for tokenized deposits, stablecoins, and real-world assets
  • Payments — for orchestrating fiat and stablecoin flows including on-ramps, off-ramps, and onchain transactions
  • Trading — for atomic swaps, vaults, and onchain FX (expected later in 2026)

Worldpay is using the payments and issuance modules to offer merchants seamless access to onchain settlement and tokenized assets, enabling new business models for digital assets in commerce. The implementation leverages the Fireblocks Payments Engine, one of the platform's technology partners, to handle custody and transaction signing at institutional scale. Through this integration, Worldpay has achieved T+0 settlement for merchants, giving businesses faster access to capital and improved liquidity management while maintaining compliance requirements.

Technology partners bundled into the SDP include node infrastructure providers Alchemy, Helius, Quicknode, and Triton; wallet and custody providers Anchorage Digital, BitGo, Coinbase, Fireblocks, and Paxos; compliance tooling from Chainalysis, Elliptic, and TRM; and fiat ramp providers including Bridge, BVNK, Lightspark, and MoonPay.

Role in the Solana Ecosystem

Worldpay's integrations position Solana as a settlement and issuance layer within enterprise payment infrastructure rather than as a standalone crypto product. The merchant settlement use case — receiving funds in USDG on Solana as an alternative to a conventional bank wire — reflects how traditional payment processors are beginning to route volume through public blockchains for operational efficiency rather than crypto-native reasons.

Solana's total payment volume grew 755% year-over-year as of early 2026, driven in part by stablecoin settlement volume from institutions including Worldpay, Visa, and Stripe. USDG stablecoin volume on Solana reached significant scale during 2025, with the asset described as the fastest-growing stablecoin of that year.

Worldpay's scale — over 40 billion transactions annually across 146 countries — makes its adoption materially significant for Solana's ambitions in institutional payments. The combination of USDG merchant settlement and the broader SDP infrastructure gives Worldpay a two-layer approach: near-term stablecoin settlement through an existing network, and a longer-term platform for building custom tokenized financial products on Solana.
