The Rise of Vector: Tensor's Pivot to Social Meme Coin Trading ... This principle is exemplified by the story of Tensor, a Solana-native NFT platform that has recently made a bold pivot into the realm of meme coin trading with their new app, Vector.

About

Vector

Vector.fun was a mobile-first SocialFi trading platform built by Tensor Labs—the team behind the Tensor NFT marketplace—that merged memecoin trading with transparent, onchain social mechanics on Solana. It positioned itself as a rival to Pump.fun, targeting the same speculative memecoin culture but from the angle of community and social accountability rather than token creation and bonding curves.

The Problem It Solved

Memecoin trading on Solana was already a frenzy by mid-2024, but the social layer was fragmented. Traders shared calls on X, Discord, and Telegram with no verifiable track record. Claims of profit were unverifiable, influencer performance was opaque, and there was no native mechanism to reward successful broadcasters or build trust between traders. Vector.fun aimed to fix that by putting the social layer onchain, where PnL records and trade entries and exits could be independently verified rather than screenshot-faked.

How It Worked

Vector.fun presented itself as a "stimulating crossover of Crypto Twitter, TikTok, and onchain markets." The core discovery mechanic was a scrollable feed of trending tokens, styled after TikTok's content algorithm: users swiped through charts and commentary rather than navigating a traditional order book interface. Entry and exit points for broadcasted trades appeared directly on charts, and dedicated comment sections sat below each token view.

The platform's transparency layer was central to its differentiation. Every trader's PnL history was publicly visible and fully onchain, meaning anyone could verify a caller's actual performance rather than trusting screenshots. This attacked one of the more persistent problems in crypto social communities—where successful traders build follower counts on fabricated or cherry-picked results.

The referral mechanic tied financial incentive to broadcasting quality: when a trader shared a position and a follower copied it and made a profit, the original broadcaster earned additional on-platform rewards. This created a primitive but direct alignment between sharing good information and being compensated for it.

Onboarding used Privy's embedded wallet infrastructure, removing the seed phrase step that historically deterred new users. The wallet abstraction lowered the barrier for mobile-first users encountering self-custody for the first time, though it introduced a dependency on a third-party custodial layer.

The platform expanded beyond Solana over time, adding support for Ethereum and Base alongside its native Solana integration, allowing users to access memecoin markets across multiple networks from a single interface.

Key Features

Broadcasts and Leaderboards: The Broadcasts Tab ranked traders by profitability, sortable by absolute dollar PnL or percentage gain. Users could identify top performers and observe which tokens they were actively trading. This doubled as a discovery mechanism for both people and assets.

Price Alerts and Watchlists: Users could set real-time price alerts and build watchlists to monitor volatile tokens without needing to watch charts continuously—relevant for assets that could move dramatically within hours.

Tipping System: Introduced in March 2025, the tipping feature let users send tips directly from another trader's profile or from comment sections. A dedicated Earnings tab tracked incoming tips, and a separate leaderboard ranked the top tip recipients. The system added a community-driven income layer for traders who built followings.

Holders Tab: This feature surfaced the largest holders of any given token directly within the app, showing whether those holders were active on Vector and what their trading history looked like. It gave retail traders a quick way to assess whether a token's supply was concentrated in a few wallets.

CA Search via X: An integration with the @FXNCTION account on X allowed users to search contract addresses and surface recent X mentions of that token. This bridged the gap between off-platform social chatter and in-app trading, letting users see trending discussions before deciding to trade a token.

Team

Vector.fun was built by Tensor Labs, co-founded by Richard Wu and Ilja Moisejevs. The two had previously built Tensor into Solana's leading NFT marketplace, capturing as much as 85 percent of Solana NFT trading volume at its peak in early 2024. The Vector project represented a deliberate pivot from NFT infrastructure to the memecoin trading vertical, applying the same team's experience in high-velocity, speculative Solana markets to a new asset class.

Tensorians NFT holders—Tensor's own collection—received priority access during Vector's early rollout, allowing them to skip the general waitlist by verifying ownership through Discord.

No Native Token

Vector.fun did not launch a native token. The platform was distinct from the TNSR governance token associated with the Tensor NFT marketplace. Revenue and reward mechanics operated through trading fees and the on-platform tipping system rather than through a proprietary token.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Vector launched into a Solana ecosystem that had become the dominant chain for memecoin activity by 2024, driven by low fees, fast finality, and an established culture around speculative token launches. Pump.fun had already validated that there was product-market fit for memecoin-specific platforms; Vector's bet was that social features and trader accountability would create a second layer of engagement on top of pure trading mechanics.

The mobile-first design was a deliberate choice for a user base that increasingly operated on phones, and the simplified interface contrasted with the complexity of traditional DEX aggregators or professional trading terminals.

Acquisition and Shutdown

In November 2025, Coinbase announced it would acquire Vector.fun—its ninth acquisition of that year—as part of the company's stated strategy to become an "everything exchange" operating across multiple blockchains and trading models. The acquisition terms were not disclosed.

Following the deal, the Vector.fun mobile and desktop applications were shut down. The Tensor NFT marketplace and the TNSR governance token were not included in the Coinbase acquisition; they were transferred to the independent Tensor Foundation, which assumed stewardship of the marketplace and token. Richard Wu and Ilja Moisejevs joined Coinbase alongside eleven other Vector employees to work on Coinbase's onchain strategy.

The vector.fun domain now redirects to a Privy wallet recovery page, giving former users a path to access funds held in their embedded wallets.

Vector.fun operated for roughly sixteen months between its mid-2024 launch and its late-2025 acquisition. During that window it shipped multiple feature expansions, grew from a Solana-only product to a multi-chain platform, and built a sufficiently differentiated position in the SocialFi trading space to attract a major exchange acquisition.
