On-chain activity
AppKit
AppKit implements wallet connectivity and onchain UX infrastructure through modular SDK architecture, enabling wallet logins, multichain support, and user analytics. The system provides social authentication, embedded wallet creation, and transaction management while maintaining cross-platform compatibility.
WalletKit
WalletKit implements wallet-to-app connectivity infrastructure through the WalletConnect protocol, enabling secure session management and multichain transaction signing. The system provides one-click authentication, phishing protection, and access to thousands of decentralized applications.
Reown
TLDR
Reown is the company formerly known as WalletConnect Inc., which rebranded in September 2024 to signal its evolution from a single-purpose QR code connection protocol into a full onchain UX platform. Its two primary developer toolkits — AppKit for decentralized applications and WalletKit for wallet developers — power wallet connectivity across more than 600 wallets and 70,000 integrated applications. Solana is a first-class supported chain, with AppKit bringing email/social login, fiat onramps, and token swaps to Solana dApps alongside EVM and Bitcoin.
Background and Rebrand
WalletConnect launched in 2018 as a QR-code-based protocol for linking mobile wallets to desktop dApps. Over six years it became foundational infrastructure for Web3, processing over 365 million connections for more than 52 million unique wallets. On September 16, 2024, the company announced it was rebranding to Reown to reflect its expanded mission.
CEO Jess Houlgrave explained the rationale: "Web3 is yet to achieve the lofty goals spoken about by many...Reown is focused on changing this and making the onchain landscape usable and accessible." The new name signals a user-owned, user-controlled vision for the internet. The underlying WalletConnect Network protocol and its decentralized infrastructure continue to operate under the WalletConnect brand as a separate entity, while Reown the company builds products on top of it.
Core Products
AppKit
AppKit is Reown's flagship open-source SDK for application developers. It provides a pre-built modal UI and chain-specific adapters that let any dApp integrate:
- Multichain wallet connection — access to 600+ wallets via the WalletConnect Network, spanning EVM chains, Solana, and Bitcoin
- Email and social login — users can sign in with email, Google, or other social accounts, abstracting away seed phrase complexity
- Smart accounts — account abstraction features including session keys and gasless transactions on supported networks
- In-app swaps — token swaps powered by 1inch (EVM-focused)
- Fiat onramps — direct fiat-to-crypto purchases via Coinbase partnership
- Web3 messaging — push notification infrastructure for on-chain events
AppKit supports a wide range of development frameworks including React, Next.js, Vue, Svelte, Nuxt, React Native, Flutter, Swift (iOS), Kotlin (Android), and Unity. Solana is supported across web frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue, and others) and React Native, though not yet on Android/iOS native or Unity.
An "AppKit Core" variant is available for developers who need a chain-agnostic, custom implementation without the pre-built UI.
WalletKit
WalletKit is targeted at wallet developers rather than dApp developers. It provides the client-side SDK for implementing WalletConnect protocol support inside a wallet, enabling that wallet to connect to any of the 70,000+ applications that use AppKit or the WalletConnect Network. WalletKit includes chain abstraction capabilities that have been extended to Flutter, with deeper Solana integration in its chain abstraction layer being actively developed.
Solana Expansion
On September 20, 2024 — four days after the rebrand announcement — Reown launched AppKit for Solana. The rollout was accompanied by integration partnerships with several prominent Solana projects: Jupiter, Marinade Finance, Drift Protocol, and Solayer. Backpack Wallet was highlighted as a key wallet partner, with its CEO Armani Ferrante noting that "users can easily access Backpack Wallet when they click the WalletConnect button on their favorite dApps."
The Solana AppKit brought the same developer experience available on EVM chains — including email/social login, Coinbase onramp, 1inch swaps, and web3 messaging notifications — to Solana application developers. Supported frameworks at launch included React, Vue, JavaScript, and Next.js.
By 2025, Reown's multi-network session support allows users to connect and manage Bitcoin, EVM, and Solana accounts simultaneously within a single AppKit instance.
Network Scale
As of 2025, the WalletConnect Network infrastructure that powers Reown's products handles approximately $400 billion in annual total network volume. The network supports over 76,700 integrated applications and 700+ wallets, and has served more than 52 million unique wallets across 365 million connections.
WCT Token
In September 2024, alongside the rebrand, WalletConnect announced the WCT (Connect Token) — the native governance and staking token of the WalletConnect Network. WCT has a capped supply of 1 billion tokens, with 18.5% (185 million tokens) allocated for community airdrops across multiple seasons.
The first airdrop season in November 2024 distributed 50 million WCT tokens to over 160,000 eligible builders, contributors, and active users. WCT initially launched on OP Mainnet (Optimism) and subsequently deployed on Ethereum. Tokens serve four functions within the network: governance voting, staking, rewards distribution, and potential future network fee mechanisms.
WCT has since expanded to Solana as its third blockchain, using Wormhole's native token transfer framework so WCT moves natively across chains rather than as a wrapped asset. The WalletConnect Foundation announced a dedicated 5 million WCT airdrop for active Solana users, distributed through ecosystem partners including Phantom, Jupiter, Backpack, and Solflare — valued at approximately $3 million at the time of the announcement.
Funding
In January 2025, Reown closed a $13 million Series B round co-led by Union Square Ventures and 1kx, with participation from Shopify Ventures, Kraken Ventures, and Crypto.com Capital. This brought total funding to over $38 million, earmarked for further decentralizing the WalletConnect Network and expanding AppKit and WalletKit capabilities.
Team
Reown is led by CEO Jess Houlgrave, who guided the company through the WalletConnect-to-Reown transition. Pedro Gomes, an early WalletConnect architect, serves as a director of the WalletConnect Foundation. The company traces its origins to 2018 and operates with a distributed team.
Solana Ecosystem Fit
Reown occupies a foundational infrastructure role in the Solana ecosystem. By bringing the WalletConnect Network's connectivity layer to Solana, it enables Solana dApps to offer seamless multi-wallet, multichain UX that reduces friction for users. The simultaneous AppKit launch alongside the WCT token announcement, the Backpack partnership, and the dedicated Solana WCT airdrop signal a deliberate and substantial commitment to Solana — not a peripheral integration. Developers building on Solana gain production-ready wallet connection, authentication, onramp, and swap infrastructure without building those components themselves.
