Mad Squad

Free-to-play mobile hero shooter with NFT heroes, robot combat, and on-chain rewards

About

Mad Squad

Mad Squad is a free-to-play mobile action shooter built on blockchain technology, combining hero-based PvP combat with NFT ownership and a play-to-earn economy. Players assemble a roster of unique heroes and customizable robot units to fight rivals across a set of futuristic arenas. The game is built to run on low-end Android and iOS devices — the full install weighs approximately 120 MB — making it broadly accessible without hardware-gating the player base.

Gameplay

Mad Squad's core loop pairs two distinct asset types: heroes and robots. Heroes are the player-controlled combatants with distinct abilities; robots serve as the primary combat units in dedicated match types and can be upgraded between sessions. Players choose perspectives depending on preference, switching between first-person and third-person views, and can swap heroes mid-match as tactics demand.

Three PvP modes define the competitive structure:

  • Team Deathmatch — squads of heroes and robots contest direct eliminations.
  • Control Point — teams capture and hold map objectives to accumulate score over a timed match.
  • Robot Wars — player-customized robots compete without hero involvement, rewarding build investment directly.

New players start with five common heroes and one basic robot at no cost, making the initial entry genuinely free rather than nominal. Beyond the starter kit, players can purchase, earn, or trade for higher-rarity characters and robot components in the marketplace.

Heroes and Rarity

Heroes are divided into two class archetypes: Attackers (offensive focus) and Defenders (protective focus). Each hero carries a unique ability and supports cosmetic skins. Heroes come in four rarity tiers — Common (blue), Rare (green), Epic (purple), and Legendary (red) — which directly influence play-to-earn earning rates. Higher-rarity heroes generate more Mad Points per victory, creating a progression incentive without hard-gating casual play. The whitepaper references 15 unique NFT heroes across these tiers.

Robot System

Robots are customizable across several component categories including speed, damage output, shields, and visual appearance. Matches cause cumulative damage to a robot's frame; players decide whether to repair before the next game or enter damaged, with degraded performance as a consequence. Robots can be purchased and sold on the Mad Squad marketplace, making them tradeable assets alongside hero NFTs.

Economy and the MADC Token

Mad Squad's on-chain economy centers on MadCoin (MADC), with a fixed total supply of 700,000,000 tokens. Token allocation is divided across nine categories: 35% to play-to-earn rewards (vesting linearly over 60 months), 15% to development, 10% each to liquidity, team, and private sale, and the remainder to marketing, community, advisors, and public sale.

Players accumulate Mad Points — a non-transferable, non-tradeable internal score — through daily logins, quest completion, in-game events, and match wins. Reaching milestone thresholds unlocks tiered Mad Chests (Level 1 through Level 5, requiring 500 to 8,000 points respectively), which pay out a mix of in-game items, NFTs, and MADC. At season's end, the leaderboard resets and top-ranked players receive additional MADC prizes.

A dedicated play-to-earn track runs parallel to the chest system: owning at least one NFT hero is required to participate, and victory Mad Points are weighted by hero rarity. This earn-on-win layer rewards consistent performance rather than passive holding.

Withdrawals are permitted weekly after an initial 14-day vesting period, subject to a 4% transaction fee and a 2 MADC minimum cashout threshold — parameters designed to reduce bot farming and token dumping.

Development Timeline

Mad Squad's public roadmap shows a structured multi-year build. Foundational game design and prototyping ran through 2023, followed by internal testing and hero/map expansions across early 2024. The whitepaper was released in Q4 2024 alongside a public beta. Planned 2025 milestones include the NFT collection launch and Web3 integration (Q1), official marketplace launch (Q2), a robot rental system and the MADC IDO event (Q3), and Battle Royale mode alongside clan and social features (Q4). All milestones through Q4 2024 carry completion markers in the whitepaper.

Status

As of August 2026, Mad Squad is active. The official website resolves, the whitepaper is maintained with full documentation, and the Twitter account (@MadSquadGame) posts regularly. The play-to-earn earning system is described in the whitepaper as pending Season 1 activation. The dedicated marketplace (market.madsquad.net) returned a service error at time of research; it is unclear whether this is a temporary outage or a delayed launch. No security audit information is publicly disclosed, and the founding team has not published individual names or backgrounds.

Mad Squad occupies the mobile-first, free-to-enter segment of blockchain gaming on Solana — a segment that historically struggles with retention but benefits from low hardware barriers. Whether the game builds durable player engagement will likely depend on Season 1 launch execution and the MADC IDO event scheduled for 2025 Q3.
