Heavy Duty Builders describes itself as "a humble global community full of heavy-duty builders in Solana," but the organization has evolved well beyond a tagline. What began in 2021 as a two-person side project building open-source developer tooling has grown into one of the more recognizable grassroots presences in the Solana ecosystem — running free Spanish-language developer bootcamps and operating as a curated pre-accelerator pipeline for technical founders trying to reach the Solana Foundation, Colosseum, and AllianceDAO.

Origins: Bulldozer and the IGNITION Hackathon

Heavy Duty Builders was founded by Daniel Marin and Andres Guerrero, two software developers who built their first product in their spare time alongside regular jobs. That product was Bulldozer — a low-code platform for developing Anchor-based programs on Solana. Rather than requiring developers to write every line of on-chain Rust manually, Bulldozer gave them a graphical interface to configure instructions, define account schemas (called "collections"), group applications into workspaces, and write instruction handlers through a basic code editor.

The core architectural insight was to store all program configuration data on-chain. This approach unlocked real-time collaboration, since multiple developers could work on the same program's configuration simultaneously through the shared on-chain state. The project was submitted to the Solana IGNITION Hackathon in October 2021, where it won second place in the Web3 Track.

The Bulldozer repository, hosted at github.com/heavy-duty/platform, is a monorepo built with Nx, combining an Anchor workspace for on-chain storage and an Angular frontend. The technical stack includes Rust for the on-chain program, TypeScript across the client layer, and the @solana/wallet-adapter library for wallet connectivity. At the time of writing, the repository has accumulated 78 stars and 22 forks — modest by large-project standards, but notable for a tool aimed specifically at Solana program developers.

The Pivot: From Tooling to Community and Pre-Acceleration

Since the Bulldozer launch, Heavy Duty Builders has expanded its identity in two distinct directions: developer education with a Spanish-language focus, and a structured founder preparation service for teams aiming at Solana's top accelerator programs.

The education wing operates under the "Heavy Duty Camp" brand, with a dedicated site at solanaspain.dev. The bootcamp runs for four weeks, is free of charge, and is taught in Spanish — making it one of the few free, structured Solana development programs explicitly aimed at the Spanish-speaking developer community. The curriculum covers building Solana programs (smart contracts) using the Anchor framework, from initial setup through deployment, with practical DApp development as the output. Heavy Duty Builders has also conducted a "Solana Spain Tour," taking in-person workshops directly to Spanish-speaking developer communities. A full 2025 bootcamp recording titled "Bootcamp Completo: Crea programas en Solana con anchor" is available on YouTube, giving the educational content broad reach beyond the live cohort.

The other direction is more strategically oriented. The current heavyduty.builders homepage positions the organization as "the premier middleground for Solana builders" — specifically for founders who have demonstrated technical competence but are not yet ready for a top-tier accelerator. The organization calls this gap "the Gap": the stage where many strong projects stall after hackathons, before they have the narrative, the metrics, or the relationships to get into programs like Colosseum or AllianceDAO.

The Pre-Accelerator Model

Heavy Duty Builders' founder preparation service is free for participating teams. The model is not venture capital: there is no investment, no equity taken, and no fund. Instead, the organization operates as a sourcing and curation layer — identifying high-potential technical founders, working with them intensively, and then routing them into ecosystem programs that do provide capital.

The three core service pillars are:

Radical Feedback — Direct, unfiltered critique of the product, business model, and go-to-market. The emphasis is on strengthening product-market fit before a founder faces a competitive application process.

Narrative Design — Help structuring pitch decks, refining the investment thesis, and making the product story legible to investors and accelerator partners. Many strong technical teams struggle to translate what they have built into language that resonates with non-technical evaluators.

Capital Access — Direct introductions and warm referrals to partners in the Solana ecosystem and beyond. The organization's stated pipeline connects accepted teams to the Solana Foundation, Colosseum (Solana's primary hackathon and accelerator vehicle), AllianceDAO (one of crypto's most established accelerators), and IslandDAO.

The selection criteria are intentionally narrow. Teams must be building exclusively on Solana, must demonstrate a strong technical understanding of what they are building, and must show what the organization describes as "action bias" — evidence of shipping, iterating, and moving rather than theorizing.

The team's self-description — "We are not VCs watching from the sidelines. We are builders who have been in the trenches" — aligns with the organization's history. The founders built Bulldozer as a side project without VC backing. The community and the services that followed grew from that same operator-first posture.

Team and Community

The founding team of Daniel Marin and Andres Guerrero established the builder-first culture, and the community has expanded since. Dayana Rodrigues is among the identified team members associated with the educational and community programs. Heavy Duty Builders does not have a native token, and the original DAO structure — which the founders discussed early on, including an NFT-based "medals" system to recognize contributors — has not been formally launched. The GitHub repository and all associated tooling remain open-source.

Solana Ecosystem Fit

Heavy Duty Builders occupies a distinct position in the Solana developer ecosystem. Most support programs run by the Solana Foundation or Colosseum are targeted at teams that are already past the initial formation stage. Most independent bootcamps that exist operate in English. Heavy Duty Builders addresses both gaps simultaneously: it serves early-stage technical teams who need preparation before applying to selective programs, and it serves the Spanish-speaking developer community that lacks native-language resources for Solana development.

The organization's relationships with Colosseum, the Solana Foundation, AllianceDAO, and IslandDAO give it credibility as a genuine referral pipeline rather than a standalone community. For founders who make it through the curation process, the access to those partner relationships represents a meaningful shortcut in an ecosystem where warm introductions matter.
