Delphi Digital

Delphi Digital is one of the crypto industry's most respected independent research firms, founded in 2018 by a team of former traditional finance professionals who saw a fundamental gap in how digital assets were being analyzed. The firm combines institutional-grade research methodology with deep on-chain expertise, positioning itself at the intersection of researchers, builders, and investors in a way few firms in the space have managed to sustain.

Origins and Founding Team

The company was established in 2018 by Tom Shaughnessy Jr, Kevin Kelly, Anil Lulla, and Medio Demarco. Shaughnessy brought an equity research background spanning stints at Dane Capital Management and Oppenheimer & Co., along with CFA Level I certification and Series 7, 63, 86, and 87 licenses—credentials that brought a Wall Street analytical rigor to crypto from the outset. Kevin Kelly came from Bloomberg, where he worked as an equity strategist, giving the team a strong macro lens at a time when most crypto commentary was driven by speculation rather than structured analysis.

That traditional finance DNA shaped the firm's identity. Rather than producing surface-level market commentary, Delphi built a reputation for deep-dive reports that synthesize on-chain data, macro context, and fundamental protocol analysis into coherent investment theses. Each flagship publication represents hundreds of hours of research condensed into a single authoritative view—a model borrowed from sell-side equity research and adapted to the faster-moving, less-documented world of blockchain.

Research Platform

Delphi's primary product is the members platform at members.delphidigital.io, which hosts more than 1,558 research pieces spanning every major sector of the digital asset ecosystem: DeFi, infrastructure, AI and DePIN, stablecoins, derivatives, and macro and markets. Membership is tiered, with Delphi Pro aimed at individual investors and analysts and Delphi Pro+ serving institutional teams.

Beyond static reports, the platform offers an Alpha Feed delivering concise, data-driven updates on active market catalysts, alongside a suite of analytical dashboards—Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF flow trackers, cross-venue crypto options data, sector performance monitors, and Bitcoin top-signal tools. The combination of long-form reports and real-time monitoring tools gives members a research stack that covers both strategic positioning and tactical awareness.

Delphi also operates Delphi Creative, a consulting arm offering education, strategic advisory, and due diligence reports to projects and institutions navigating the space.

Delphi Ventures

Alongside its research business, Delphi operates Delphi Ventures, a crypto-native investment arm that deliberately diverges from the traditional VC model. Rather than raising large external LP funds, Delphi Ventures deploys primarily its own internal capital—a structure the firm describes as giving it genuine skin in the game alongside the founders it backs. Research-driven deal flow means investment decisions are informed directly by the same analytical work produced for subscribers, creating a feedback loop between insight and capital allocation.

The Ventures portfolio includes some of the most consequential projects in crypto: Axie Infinity, Uniswap, dYdX, Celestia, Lido, and zkSync, among others. Recent deployment has continued at pace, with notable 2025 investments including DoubleZero (a $28 million round in March 2025) and Ambient ($7.2 million in March 2025). In early 2026, the firm backed Bluff in a $21 million round.

Delphi Labs

The third arm of the organization is Delphi Labs, a protocol and technology development group led by Jose Maria Macedo. Labs functions as an internal builder, allowing Delphi to participate in the ecosystem it studies not just as analysts or capital allocators, but as active developers and protocol contributors.

Solana Coverage and Institutional Validator

Delphi has been a consistent and serious analyst of Solana's development trajectory. The firm published "Solana the Monolith," a comprehensive architectural assessment arguing that Solana's single-layer, low-latency design represents a deliberate and coherent engineering philosophy rather than a scaling shortcut. The report examined validator decentralization (noting a Nakamoto coefficient of 32, comparable to Ethereum's roughly 20), the fee market isolation mechanism, state compression through compressed NFTs, and the emergence of DePIN projects like Helium, Hivemapper, and Render as serious use cases built on Solana's economics.

In its Year Ahead 2024 report, Delphi stated directly that Ethereum's dominant market share was "bound to deteriorate" and identified Solana as "the main recipient of market share normalization"—a call that proved prescient as Solana's share of on-chain activity expanded substantially through 2024 and into 2025.

By 2026, Delphi's Solana thesis had become one of its most prominent research threads. The firm published work arguing that "2026 is the Year of Solana," centering on two technical developments: the Alpenglow consensus upgrade, which introduces a new architecture through the Votor and Rotor components and could reduce finality from roughly 12 seconds to 100–150 milliseconds, and the Firedancer validator client, a C++ rewrite developed by Jump Crypto designed to dramatically expand throughput while reducing latency variance. Delphi characterized Alpenglow as "the most significant protocol-level change in Solana's history." The firm's 2026 thesis frames the roadmap as positioning Solana to become what it calls a "decentralized Nasdaq"—a network capable of supporting native on-chain order books that can compete seriously with centralized exchange latency and liquidity depth.

In 2025, Delphi also partnered with Chorus One to co-launch an institutional-grade Solana validator, bringing together Delphi's research and protocol strategy expertise with Chorus One's staking infrastructure. The partnership reflects the firm's transition from external commentator to active network participant on Solana.

2026 Research Themes

Delphi's Year Ahead 2026 report identified several macro narratives it expects to define the cycle: stablecoins completing their evolution from settlement rails into active payment infrastructure, a consumer-application wave it calls "the age of apps," and the rise of what it terms the "Revenue Meta and Corporate Chains"—a shift toward institutional and corporate on-chain adoption patterns. The firm also flagged perpetuals DEXs going full-stack as a structural trend to watch, alongside continued growth in prediction markets, which it noted outperformed skeptical expectations through 2025.

Standing in the Industry

The firm's research has been cited by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin of ConsenSys, giving it credibility that crosses the usual tribal lines in crypto. That reputation for rigor, combined with an integrated model spanning research, venture investment, and active protocol building, positions Delphi Digital as a distinctive institution—one that participates in the ecosystems it analyzes rather than observing them from a distance.
