Chomp

Chomp was a Solana quiz game built by Gator Labs. Players answered questions and guessed how everyone else would answer, and a crowd-consensus mechanism used both answers to work out the most likely correct one. As of September 2026 the project appears to be inactive.

Several signs point to Chomp no longer running when this profile was checked in September 2026:

• The main domain, chomp.games, no longer resolves (DNS lookup fails).
• The docs and app subdomains (docs.chomp.games and app.chomp.games) refuse connections.
• The public GitHub repository, gator-labs/chomp, returns a 404.
• Neither the @chompdotgames account nor the Gator Labs account (@gator_fyi) has posted on X in the past 12 months.

We could not find a public shutdown announcement. The details below describe the project as it was documented while it was running.

What Chomp was

Gator Labs described itself as building "an information protocol that leverages social consensus to surface higher signal information." Chomp was its first product and launched in June 2024, according to the company's Solana job-board listing. The listing called Chomp "a quiz/trivia game that leverages Wisdom of the Crowd mechanisms to get you the best answers to your questions."

The question types ranged from factual statements to community sentiment and warning signs about projects. The stated longer-term goal was to feed the answers into "a composable data infrastructure mapped to a reputation graph."

How it worked

Each card asked two questions:

1. First-order question: what the player thinks, usually a yes/no or binary answer.
2. Second-order question: what the player thinks other people will answer, given as a percentage on a slider.

Gator Labs' mechanism combined both sets of responses to work out the most likely correct answer. It was based on research into the "wisdom of the crowd" problem.

The model was free to play, burn to reveal, and reveal to earn. Answering questions cost nothing. To see the correct answer on a card, a player burned [[TOKEN:DezXAZ8z7PnrnRJjz3wXBoRgixCa6xjnB7YaB1pPB263]] (BONK), and players who answered well were paid in BONK. A review on PlayToEarn from August 2024 gave the numbers at the time:

• Revealing a card cost 5,000 BONK.
• Getting both questions right paid 10,000 BONK, getting one right paid 5,000 BONK, and getting both wrong paid nothing.
• Cards were grouped into decks that stayed live for about 24 hours (sometimes extended to three to five days), with 60 seconds to answer each card.
• Players also earned in-game points for actions such as answering cards and completing decks.

Players could sign in with a Solana wallet or an email address. They needed a small amount of SOL for network fees and BONK to reveal answers.

Traction and plans

PlayToEarn reported that Chomp's two-month beta ended with 89,346 questions answered. Over the same period the community burned about 93.7 million BONK and earned about 76.2 million BONK. Planned features after the beta included reputation scores and accuracy scores, along with a move from BONK rewards to a planned Gator token. We found no evidence that the token launched.

Recognition and funding

• Colosseum Renaissance Hackathon: third place in the Consumer Apps track (Colosseum, May 2024), which described Chomp as "a gamified social consensus platform that provides best-in-class insights."
• Bonkathon: Grand Prize winner.
• Grants: Build with Monke grant and a Bonk DAO grant, according to Gator Labs' job listing.

Place in the Solana ecosystem

Chomp was one of several Solana consumer apps built around [[PROJECT:385]] in 2024. It used BONK both as the cost of revealing answers and as the reward. What set it apart from other quiz apps was its data angle: the aim was to use game answers to produce crowd-sourced signals instead of just running trivia. Chomp now appears to be offline, so this profile is a historical record rather than a guide to a working product.
