HeyWallet Shuts Down, Giving Users Until November 1 to Backup Solana Wallets
HeyWallet, the Solana social wallet that let users send SOL via tweets and tips on Discord, is sunsetting all products. Backup deadline: November 1, 2026.
HeyWallet, the Solana-based social wallet that enabled users to send SOL via tweets, tip creators on Discord, and trade tokens through Telegram, is shutting down. The team announced on September 12 that all products are being shut down, with the service going fully offline after November 1, 2026.
Anyone with funds in a HeyWallet account needs to export their wallet and move assets before that date. The official backup page is at heywallet.com.
What HeyWallet Built on Solana
HeyWallet launched out of a Solana hackathon in 2021 with a straightforward premise: crypto payments should work on the social platforms people already use, without requiring recipients to share a 44-character wallet address. The team built around that idea across three platforms.
On X (then Twitter), users could send SOL by simply tweeting at a handle. Recipients without an existing wallet could create one to claim the funds, making it one of the earlier attempts at frictionless crypto onboarding via social media. The platform also let users mint NFTs directly from a tweet by mentioning the wallet bot.
Discord got community tipping and reward features, letting server members send value inside a channel without switching apps. A Telegram bot handled token swaps for users who wanted a lightweight trading experience on mobile.
The team focused exclusively on Solana, citing its fee and speed profile as what made micro-transactions across social contexts feasible.
How HeyWallet Pioneered Social Transactions on Solana
In the Solana ecosystem, HeyWallet was an existence proof: embedding blockchain transactions inside social platforms was achievable years before Solana Actions and Blinks gave builders a standardized path to do it. The team built that pattern by hand, one platform integration at a time.
The @hey_wallet shutdown post drew 56,000 views and 302 likes, a signal of how many users still remember the product.
The team gave no reason for the closure beyond the announcement. No acqui-hire, no pivot, no asset sale was disclosed.
Back Up Your Wallet Before November 1
The shutdown deadline is November 1, 2026. After that date, heywallet.com goes offline and wallet access through the platform ends permanently.
If you have a HeyWallet account with any SOL or tokens, the steps are:
- Go to heywallet.com and use the export feature to retrieve your private key or seed phrase.
- Import that key into a self-custody wallet such as Phantom or Solflare before the deadline.
The window is about seven weeks. Users with funds who miss the announcement will lose access when the service goes offline.
