DoubleZero Removes Unauthorized Shred Retransmitters, Claims 70%-Plus Lead Over All Competitors

DoubleZero 2Z$0.047+1.5% DoubleZero removed a set of unauthorized retransmitters from its Edge fiber network on September 9, 2026, and co-founder Austin Federa announced the following day that the action had extended the platform's lead over every competing Solana shred provider.

"Our investigations and subsequent actions have improved the performance gap between DoubleZero Edge for Solana and every other infrastructure provider, with leader shreds on DoubleZero beating all competitors by 70%+," Federa wrote on X on September 10.

What the Unauthorized Retransmitters Were Doing

DoubleZero Edge sells licensed access to a multicast shred feed across its global fiber network. Subscribers receive raw Solana block fragments (shreds) ahead of what the public internet delivers. Some RPCs, Federa said, had been accessing that feed and forwarding it to their own users without a license, bypassing the payment flow that distributes revenue to fiber operators and the validators producing the shreds.

"If disreputable RPCs stopped retransmitting our feeds and stealing from validators, we wouldn't need to have scheduled onboardings," Federa had written on September 3, responding to a question about the platform's access model. The September 9 enforcement action turned that warning into a termination.

Under DoubleZero's revenue model, validators receive a share of Edge subscription fees for the shreds they produce, with fiber contributors taking the largest portion. Unauthorized retransmission routed around that mechanism entirely, costing both groups the revenue that licensed subscriptions would have generated.

The 70%-Plus Performance Claim and Prior Benchmarks

Federa pointed to DoubleZero's real-time shred scoreboard for live metrics. The 70%-plus lead figure is DoubleZero's own claim from its dashboard and represents the company's account of the improvement since removing unauthorized traffic from the network.

Independent data from before the action provides useful context. Triton One Triton One, which simultaneously races shreds from multiple sources including DoubleZero Edge, Turbine, and other feeds, noted in a May 2026 analysis that DoubleZero multicast delivery wins roughly 90% of slots against alternative delivery methods from major trading centers. What the removal of unauthorized traffic has added to that margin, and whether the 70% gap reflects an absolute metric or a relative improvement since the cleanup, DoubleZero has not specified further.

Jito's Exit Reshaped the Competitive Field Days Earlier

The enforcement action came four days after Jito ShredStream ceased operations on September 5. Jito itself directed users to migrate to DoubleZero Edge as the recommended replacement. That shutdown removed the field's longest-running third-party shred feed from the competitive landscape at the same moment DoubleZero was acting against unauthorized access on its own network.

For traders and market makers, shreds represent the earliest observable signal of block formation on Solana: fragments of blocks distributed by slot leaders during production, arriving milliseconds before the block fully settles. That timing edge compounds across thousands of trades per day. DoubleZero's private fiber network delivers shreds via multicast rather than through the public internet, bypassing the propagation latency that stake-weighted Turbine fanout adds as blocks spread across the validator set.

RPCs that had been sourcing shreds through the unauthorized retransmitters saw service quality drop after September 9. Federa acknowledged this directly in a follow-up post: "If you're using an RPC that got a lot slower in the last 72 hours, please reach out to us. If you don't want raw shreds, we'd love to match you with an RPC provider that is licensing DoubleZero's data and paying Solana validators."

One Subscriber Disputes Being Targeted

Not everyone affected agreed they were retransmitting. Node1, which operates three validator nodes and described itself as both a subscriber and a DoubleZero contributor, disputed its removal in the reply thread.

"We did not retransmit your Shreds, and we respect your terms, so I believe there has been some misunderstanding here," Node1 wrote on X. "You have unfairly taken action not only against our team, but also against several bot teams that have supported DoubleZero since its launch."

DoubleZero had not named any of the removed parties publicly as of September 11, and Federa did not respond to multiple requests in the thread to identify the offending entities. Whether the enforcement sweep included false positives alongside genuine violations remained unresolved.

DoubleZero's shred network has grown to cover 62.6% of Solana mainnet stake weight on its private fiber, a milestone the project reached at its second anniversary in August. The platform ran the Green Candle Cup trading competition through September 8 — the day before the retransmitter removal began.
