DoubleZero turns two with 62.6% of Solana stake on its private fiber
DoubleZero 2Z$0.057-0.6% marks its second birthday today, August 22, with validators controlling 62.6% of SOL stake running on its dedicated fiber infrastructure. The anniversary thread from the official account recaps a year that also produced the first SEC no-action letter issued for a DePIN token, the arrival of Coinbase's Solana validator, a market data product called DoubleZero Edge now used by 50+ paying subscribers, and a new EdgeConnect layer targeting agentic trading systems.
62.6% Stake and the IBRL Flywheel
The adoption figure comes from Austin Federa, DoubleZero's co-founder, posting on X early on August 22. The official milestone list from the anniversary thread cites approximately the same number.
DoubleZero does not replace the public internet for validators. It adds a private fiber overlay: validators route traffic through DoubleZero's dedicated links, gaining lower latency and more consistent bandwidth during normal conditions. If the private network encounters a problem, validators automatically fall back to the public internet, keeping the project out of the single-point-of-failure category, as Federa noted in a reply to a question about concentration risk on the same day.
The growth logic Federa explained on X:
In practical terms, more stake on the private network means more validators contributing higher-quality links to a shared pool, compounding performance gains for all participants rather than only the early adopters.
The network now spans more than 10 Tbps of aggregate fiber capacity across global links, per the anniversary thread. Marinade MNDE$0.020+1.1% Finance noted that 90% of its delegated stake runs on DoubleZero, making it one of the densest single-pool adopters among Solana liquid staking protocols. The Q2 2026 update had the core network at 59% stake weight; the four months since brought it to 62.6%.
SEC No-Action Letter: DePIN Tokens and the 2Z Path
Among the year-two milestones, the regulatory development carries the longest reach even though it predates the recent news window.
On September 29, 2025, the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance issued a no-action letter stating it would not recommend enforcement action against DoubleZero Foundation for programmatic transfers of its 2Z (2Z) token without securities registration, as reported by The Block. The letter was the first the Division had issued for a DePIN project. It turned on the utility-based structure of 2Z: the token is distributed as compensation to infrastructure contributors rather than sold to raise capital. Commissioner Hester Peirce issued a supporting statement through the SEC's newsroom, framing the case as one where the Commission's mandate covers securities markets rather than all economic activity.
The ruling distinguished 2Z from investment contracts under the Howey Test. DoubleZero's mainnet-beta launched in October 2025, shortly after the letter, with the token live and the legal path confirmed.
DoubleZero Edge: 58% of Solana Stake Now Publishing Shreds
While the core network handles validator-to-validator traffic, DoubleZero Edge serves trading desks and data consumers directly.
Edge launched on March 11, 2026, transmitting raw Solana shreds over the private fiber network using multicast. Shreds are the first-pass block data that validators produce before full blocks are assembled; routing them over dedicated fiber rather than the public internet cuts delivery by tens of milliseconds in Europe and more than 80 milliseconds in the United States compared to the public internet, per DoubleZero's Edge beta data.
By the anniversary, approximately 58% of Solana's stake was publishing shreds to Edge, per the anniversary thread's milestone list. Coinbase cbBTC$77,331.22+0.5% Solana validator joined the network in June, pushing participation past the majority threshold. The subscriber count stands at 50+ paying accounts, per the same milestone list. Triton One now delivers its Shred Streaming service over the same fiber.
Kalshi became the first prediction market to stream its order books on Edge in August, adding sports event and crypto perpetuals data to the feed alongside Solana shreds. That expanded Edge's content beyond Solana block data into the multi-asset market-data category that traditional financial infrastructure already serves.
The anniversary thread framed Edge's purpose as collapsing the geographic latency advantage that physical co-location next to an exchange traditionally provides. In markets that move this fast, the thread argued, you no longer need to be on Wall Street. You just need an Edge.
EdgeConnect Extends DoubleZero Edge to Agentic Trading Systems
The final item in the year-two recap is EdgeConnect, which DoubleZero describes as bringing Edge to agentic trading systems anywhere.
Standard Edge subscribers are human-operated trading desks that receive low-latency data feeds from the fiber network. EdgeConnect targets software agents that execute strategies autonomously. The premise matches DoubleZero's original pitch to validators: if the data arrives earlier, the system acting on it has a structural advantage over one that does not. Removing the intermediate API layer between raw shreds and an autonomous agent applies that premise to AI-driven market participants rather than human traders.
The closing line from the anniversary thread: "Year two connected Solana... year three connects all of New Finance."
