DoubleZero Edge for Builders Opens Permissionless Data Feed Publishing on Testnet

DoubleZero Edge for Builders is live on testnet, letting exchanges and data providers publish real-time feeds over DoubleZero fiber by posting a 2Z bond.

DoubleZero 2Z$0.029+2.9% Edge for Builders went live on testnet on 28 October 2026, letting outside teams publish their own real-time data feeds on DoubleZero's Edge network and charge their own subscribers, with a bond in 2Z standing behind each feed. Malbec Labs, a core contributor to DoubleZero, announced the testnet launch at 14:02 UTC, and the official DoubleZero account posted that it was "now live on testnet" twelve minutes later.

Until now, DoubleZero Edge has carried feeds that DoubleZero brought on itself. Solana shreds, the raw block fragments validators pass to one another, were its main feed, and partner venues followed, including Kalshi, whose order-book feed we covered in August. Kalshi's launch release listed both top-of-book (Level 1) and depth-of-book (Level 2) data. Edge for Builders removes the gatekeeping step: according to the DoubleZero builder documentation, "Deploying a feed does not require approval from the DoubleZero Foundation."

How Edge for Builders delivers a market data feed over multicast fiber

Edge for Builders gives a data publisher the send-once delivery model that traditional exchanges use for market data. According to Malbec Labs, the publisher sends each update once, and DoubleZero's dedicated fiber links deliver it to every subscriber. Over WebSockets and cloud APIs, Malbec Labs wrote, "every new subscriber is another copy for the publisher to send." It is the difference between a radio broadcast and a round of phone calls: one transmission reaches every receiver, instead of one call per listener.

The builder documentation lists four pieces that make up a deployed feed:

  • A bond of 2Z locked in the builder bond program, which on testnet runs on Solana devnet. The bond's tier caps the feed's bandwidth.
  • A multicast group, an address on the DoubleZero network that the publisher sends to and subscribers join.
  • The feed itself, a DoubleZero ledger account that subscribers buy access to. It records the multicast groups, the bond, the wire format and the committed data rate.
  • A publisher grant, which permits the builder's host IP address to send to the multicast group.

Builders create feeds and publishers through a builder API and sign every action with their own key, according to Malbec Labs, and existing Edge subscribers can add builder feeds on the connection they already have. The documentation asks for a Linux x86_64 host with a public IPv4 address and no NAT, root access, an application publishing in a supported wire format, and a second host to check delivery.

Testnet bond tiers: 1 to 5 2Z by committed data rate

The bond in DoubleZero Edge for Builders is sized by the data rate a feed commits to, and the builder documentation sets three testnet tiers:

Committed rate Testnet bond
Up to 1 Gbps 1 2Z
Up to 5 Gbps 2 2Z
Above 5 Gbps 5 2Z

The bond backs two commitments: the feed must stay within its committed rate, because exceeding it degrades the network for other users, and it must meet any service level the builder declares. Breaking either is grounds for forfeiting the bond, though "Nothing is forfeited on testnet," the documentation says. The first post to a bond starts a 180-day hold.

These amounts are test values. The documentation states that the tiers, amounts and hold period "apply to testnet only" and that "Mainnet-beta will use different values." DoubleZero has not published those values or a mainnet-beta date.

Who can publish real-time feeds on DoubleZero Edge

Malbec Labs says Edge for Builders, which was announced at TOKEN2049, is open now to "exchanges and venues, data aggregators, pricing providers, and any project serving real-time data over WebSockets or cloud APIs." DoubleZero's own pitch is that its fiber network "is purpose-built to meet the speed that New Finance demands."

The design choice is a bond in place of a gatekeeper. In September, DoubleZero removed unauthorized shred retransmitters from Edge. Builder feeds open publishing to anyone, and enforcement of rate limits and declared service levels moves from Foundation sign-off to 2Z locked in a Solana program. The audience a builder feed can reach is Edge's existing subscriber base, which DoubleZero's Edge page put at more than 100 live subscribers as of 15 June 2026, alongside 412 Solana validators publishing shreds.

No builder has yet been named as publishing a feed, and while Malbec Labs says builders charge their own customers, no pricing for a builder feed has been published. For background on how the network reached its current scale, see our coverage of DoubleZero's second anniversary.
