Bitso Lists Western Union's Solana Stablecoin USDPT in Mexico
Bitso listed Western Union's Solana-based USDPT stablecoin in Mexico on 13 October 2026. Reports say it adds peso trading and a conversion route for agents.
Mexican crypto exchange Bitso has listed USDPT, the US dollar stablecoin Western Union launched on Solana in May. Bitso announced on 13 October 2026 that "USDPT ahora disponible en nuestra app" ("USDPT now available in our app") in a post on X. According to DiarioBitcoin, eligible Bitso customers in Mexico can buy and sell USDPT directly with Mexican pesos. Western Union agents with Bitso Business accounts can also convert USDPT to and from other supported currencies.
How the Bitso listing works for Mexican users and Western Union agents
As DiarioBitcoin describes it, the retail side is a peso on-ramp: a Bitso user in Mexico swaps pesos for a dollar-pegged token in the app and can swap back. The day after launch, Bitso explained the product to its followers. "Ayer muchos nos preguntaron: ¿qué es USDPT?" ("Yesterday many of you asked us: what is USDPT?"), the exchange wrote on 14 October, describing it as Western Union's digital dollar, backed by dollars, issued by a federally licensed US bank and built on Solana.
The business side is the more unusual part. CriptoNoticias also reports that Western Union agents with Bitso Business accounts can convert between USDPT and other supported currencies. Agents are the shops and kiosks that pay out cash at the receiving end of a transfer, so they need a ready balance to pay from. A conversion route on a local exchange gives an agent a way to hold that balance in USDPT and turn it into other currencies when needed.
DiarioBitcoin reports that Bitso co-founder and CEO Daniel Vogel pointed to growing demand for dollar-linked digital instruments among both individuals and businesses in Mexico. Neither Bitso's posts nor the outlets give fees, limits, volumes or redemption terms.
Western Union's settlement plan for its stablecoin
Western Union's launch release on 4 May 2026 framed USDPT as a settlement tool first. CEO Devin McGranahan described it as a settlement layer for partners, agents and future consumer use cases. The Bitso Business route for agents is that plan reaching Mexico.
The same release described a Digital Asset Network built to "connect licensed virtual currency exchanges and custodians to Western Union's global payout and liquidity infrastructure", and a consumer service, Stable by Western Union, planned for more than 40 countries in 2026. On 4 June 2026, Bybit bbSOL$122.19-3.0% became the first major exchange to integrate USDPT, according to Bybit's release, with local-currency purchases across Latin America. In August, Western Union and Rain launched Stablecard, a Visa card that spends USDPT. Bitso adds a Mexico-based exchange with a business account product on top.
USDPT supply, holders and issuer on Solana
USDPT is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., the federally regulated bank arm of Anchorage Digital, according to Western Union. DiarioBitcoin adds that the token is fully backed by dollar reserves with monthly attestation reports, and that it is not issued or guaranteed by the US government and carries no FDIC insurance.
On-chain, the token is still small. USDPT had a supply of about 17.8 million tokens held across roughly 326 wallets on 14 October 2026, according to Solana Compass data, priced at $1.00. Our data shows no DEX liquidity for the token, which fits a coin built for settlement between businesses rather than trading. That holder count is the baseline for judging whether Bitso's peso route and agent accounts bring in new users.
Mexico as the next test for Western Union's Solana stablecoin
Western Union's own description of USDPT is a settlement coin for partners and agents in many countries. Solana Foundation President Lily Liu said in the launch release that "bringing stablecoins into production payment flows requires infrastructure that is both institution-grade and continuously available." In June we covered Western Union joining the Solana Foundation's enterprise developer platform alongside Worldpay. Bitso's listing, on the outlets' reporting, gives Mexico a peso-denominated way into the token and a conversion route for the agents who pay out the cash. Whether transfer volumes follow is the figure to watch, and Bitso has not published one yet.
