Backpack Securities Opens Mint and Redeem API to All Solana Developers
Backpack Securities opens its mint and redeem API to all Solana developers, letting any team tokenize or redeem a security entitlement with a single API call.
Backpack has opened its Securities mint and redeem API to all developers building on Solana, removing the access barrier between the platform's tokenized-stock issuance layer and the broader builder community. CEO Armani Ferrante made the announcement on September 13.
Previously, the infrastructure that converts a security entitlement into an on-chain token was not accessible to outside teams. Any Solana developer can now call a single endpoint to mint a tokenized security or redeem it back into its underlying entitlement, without a separate custody arrangement.
How the Backpack Securities Mint and Redeem API Works
Each token issued through Backpack Securities represents a claim on an SPV holding the real underlying shares. Traditional securities on the platform are held as UCC Article 8 entitlements under New York law, and the 1:1 redemption mechanism keeps the token price anchored to the underlying equity rather than floating on supply and demand alone.
The API uses ED25519 keypair authentication. Every request requires three headers: X-API-Key (the base64-encoded public key), X-Signature (a base64-encoded signature covering the request), and X-Timestamp (milliseconds). The same authentication model covers the rest of the Backpack Exchange API surface, including the securities discovery endpoint at GET /api/v1/securities.
Because each token stays redeemable 1:1 for the real share, applications built on top of the API carry the same direct-redemption guarantee as tokens Backpack issues through its own products. That changes the calculus for developers building stock-adjacent financial products on Solana: custody is handled, and issuance is one signed request away.
STOCKLANA Hackathon: $100K for Builders Across Five Infrastructure Categories
The API opening coincides with the STOCKLANA hackathon, a Solana Foundation event running through September 18 with $100K in prizes. The five prize categories span trading infrastructure, investing tools, credit and yield products, backend infrastructure, and consumer applications.
With 26 submissions already in, the hackathon is a coordinated builder push squarely aimed at tokenized equity infrastructure on Solana. Open API access gives participants a path from a working prototype to a production-ready issuance pipeline without separately negotiating custody infrastructure.
Solana's tokenized equity segment has grown rapidly in parallel. Tokenized equity supply on Solana reached a record $684M earlier this week, with 41 stocks currently listed across Backpack Securities.
