Deutsche Bank Says Rotation Into Tech Still Has Room Despite Overweight Positioning
Deutsche Bank says the rotation into tech that began in late July, which has favoured the tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 tracked by QQQ, is "now advanced but still has some room to run," CNBC reported. Mega-cap growth and tech stocks have gained 14% since the end of July to reach a record high, while the rest of the S&P 500 has fallen 3% over the same period. The bank says that relative outperformance has risen into the upper half of its long-run trend channel but "is not yet at the top."
Positioning is the core of the argument. Deutsche Bank's strategists, led by Binky Chadha, estimate investor exposure to mega-cap growth and tech at about 0.8 standard deviations above neutral, around the 80th percentile. They describe that as "clearly overweight but well below prior peaks," such as early June, when tech positioning reached the 99th percentile. The same report flags a risk: positioning among systematic strategies sits in the top decile, which could leave the market exposed if bond-market volatility picks up. Deutsche Bank kept its S&P 500 target of 8,000.

Michael Burry adds to chip shorts as Nasdaq-100 sets record high
The Nasdaq-100, the index tracked by QQQ, hit an all-time high this week. The gains were led by technology stocks tied to the AI build-out, especially chipmakers. At the same moment, investor Michael Burry is adding to bets against that group. CNBC reports that Burry is increasing his short positions in memory maker Micron Technology, cloud platform Nebius Group, the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) and data analytics company Palantir.
Burry's argument is that the memory chip shortage behind this cycle, which has helped create new trillion-dollar companies, is temporary. "Over the next two years this shortage will blow off as production catches up, and memory will have a down cycle again," he wrote. He cited a Taiwanese media report in which Acer's CEO said Chinese production capacity has kept rising, with contract prices fluctuating at high levels. U.S. economists have also warned that rising Chinese output could cause a memory glut. Semiconductors now make up a large share of the Nasdaq-100's recent leadership, so a return to the usual boom-and-bust memory cycle would hit the stocks that pushed the index to its record.

AI Trade Rotates to Meta as Muse Launch Lifts Nasdaq
Meta's Muse AI agent has emerged as the dominant catalyst for Nasdaq and QQQ momentum this week, with the app overtaking ChatGPT as the top free app on the iOS App Store and accumulating more than 2.5 million downloads in 13 days. Meta shares have surged over 20% since Muse details were released, making the company the largest single contributor to QQQ's gains as one of the ETF's heaviest-weighted components. The Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF — which tracks the core QQQ mega-cap cohort — hit a record for the second consecutive session.
The move represents a notable shift in where the AI trade is concentrating: investors who had previously rotated toward Nvidia and Microsoft on infrastructure spending are now bidding up Meta as the new consumer-facing AI breakout. Because Meta carries significant weight in QQQ's composition alongside other Magnificent Seven names, a sustained re-rating of Meta has outsized index-level impact. Options volume in Meta has spiked sharply, signaling active positioning rather than passive drift, which adds near-term volatility risk to QQQ alongside the upside momentum.

Meta Conference, Costco Earnings, and Trump-Xi Meeting Headline Nasdaq Week
Three catalysts are set to shape Nasdaq-heavy portfolios during the week of September 21, 2026. Meta Platforms hosts its major annual conference, an event that historically moves the stock and has an outsized effect on QQQ given Meta's position as one of the Nasdaq-100's largest constituents. Costco (NASDAQ: COST) reports quarterly earnings with analysts focused on profit margins, membership growth and retention, and the possibility of a special dividend announcement. Rounding out the week, President Trump is scheduled to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping, a geopolitical development that carries particular weight for Nasdaq tech stocks given their deep exposure to China-linked supply chains and sales markets.
Any one of these three events could drive meaningful index-level moves. A strong Meta showing or bullish guidance at the conference would likely lift the broader tech cohort, while a breakdown in trade talks between Washington and Beijing could quickly reverse recent gains in semiconductor and large-cap growth names that dominate QQQ's weightings.

Nasdaq (NDAQ) Stock Looks Reasonably Priced After Its 82% Run
Nasdaq Inc. (NDAQ) is trading around $89.23 per share at a roughly 25.4x P/E ratio, which an Excess Returns valuation model suggests aligns with intrinsic value following an 82% share price run over three years. The analysis, citing a projected EPS of $4.85 and a return on equity of approximately 20.4%, concludes the market has already priced in the company's above-cost-of-equity returns, leaving limited margin of safety at current levels.
Growth prospects center on Nasdaq's expansion into AI-driven analytics and private markets data — accelerated by acquisitions including the recent Dasseti deal. While one community analysis places the stock roughly 19% undervalued based on AI upselling potential, the piece also flags recent insider selling as a cautionary signal. The overall picture is of a well-run exchange operator trading fairly, not cheaply, with future upside contingent on new product lines delivering expected margin expansion.

SpaceX Weighting in Nasdaq 100 Set to More Than Double
SpaceX's weighting in the Nasdaq 100 is expected to more than double in a scheduled late-September 2026 rebalance, rising from approximately 1.28% to around 2.82%, according to pro forma data from Nasdaq's Global Index Watch. The expansion follows the expiration of share lockup restrictions that capped SpaceX's free float when the company joined the index in July, freeing additional shares for passive tracking funds to absorb.
The adjustment is expected to trigger billions of dollars in purchases from index-tracking vehicles. The Invesco QQQ Trust — the primary ETF tracking the Nasdaq 100 with roughly $481 billion in assets — will need to increase its SpaceX exposure proportionally to match the new weighting. Additional lockup tranches are scheduled to expire in coming months, which could push SpaceX's allocation even higher in subsequent rebalances.
