SafeHeron MPC Self-Custody

An institutional self-custody platform that uses MPC and TEE to remove single points of failure while keeping full private key control. It provides multi-chain wallet governance, a policy engine, AML integrations, Web3 access, and operational tooling such as API Co‑Signer, Asset Vault, and DeFi Vault.

About

Safeheron

Safeheron is a Singapore-headquartered enterprise digital asset custody platform that provides institutional-grade self-custody through a combination of Multi-Party Computation (MPC) and Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technologies. Founded in 2021, the company positions itself around a single principle: the client retains complete control over their keys at all times, with no single party — including Safeheron itself — ever holding a complete private key.

Technology Architecture

Safeheron's core security model is a 3-of-3 MPC-TSS (Threshold Signature Scheme). Private keys are split into three cryptographic shares distributed across different parties; all three must cooperate for a transaction to be authorized. This design eliminates the single-point-of-failure risk present in traditional custodial models and standard hardware wallets. No one share on its own carries any useful information about the full key.

The MPC layer is reinforced by Intel SGX-based TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) hardware enclaves. Even during computation — the moment when key material is most exposed — the cryptographic operations occur inside isolated hardware environments that are inaccessible to the operating system, hypervisor, or Safeheron's own infrastructure. The company calls the combined model WYSIWYS (What You See Is What You Sign), which ensures that the transaction a signer approves on screen matches exactly the transaction submitted on-chain.

Safeheron also supports both ECDSA and EdDSA signature schemes. EdDSA support is significant because it is the cryptographic standard used by Solana — making Safeheron's MPC key management compatible with the Solana network alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Tron, and other major blockchains.

The company is notable for its open-source posture. It claims to have been the first organization to release a mainstream MPC-TSS algorithm (implementing the GG18, GG20, and MPC-CMP protocols) in C++. In May 2025, Safeheron extended this with the open-source release of what it described as the world's first Intel SGX TEE native development framework in C++, covered independently by The Block.

Products

Safeheron's platform is organized around three self-custody products and a white-label infrastructure layer:

Asset Vault is the core institutional wallet management product. It provides a web and mobile interface for managing digital assets across multiple blockchains, governed by a configurable Policy Engine that controls which transactions require multi-party approval. Features include role-based access control, off-chain multisignature workflows, and automated AML screening.

DeFi Vault extends self-custody into Web3 participation. It allows institutions to interact with decentralized applications across EVM-compatible blockchains while maintaining multi-party key control. The product includes real-time smart contract monitoring, phishing detection, customizable RPC node configuration, and allowlist-based access controls.

Wallet-as-a-Service (WaaS) is an API-first product that lets exchanges, payment providers, and fintech companies embed Safeheron's MPC wallet infrastructure into their own applications. It supports programmatic creation of millions of wallets, automatic gas fueling, webhook notifications for transaction lifecycle events, and an API Co-Signer mechanism for automated transaction approvals.

MPC Node Suite is a white-label solution for organizations that want to run their own MPC custody infrastructure entirely on their own hardware, without routing through Safeheron's cloud. It targets wallet service providers, exchanges, and self-custody platform builders.

The API layer uses hybrid encryption (AES-256/GCM combined with RSA-4096) with SHA256WithRSA request signing, IP whitelisting, and encrypted payloads at both request and response level.

Traction and Customers

As of mid-2026, Safeheron reports having served more than 260 institutions, with peak assets under custody (AUC) exceeding $1.5 billion and cumulative transfer volume exceeding $300 billion. Named enterprise customers include HashKey, BitMart, MEXC, Legend Trading, DTCPay, Amber Group, Infini, and Alpha Yield. Alpha Yield's case study, published in June 2026, describes settling approximately $1 billion annually in OTC volume through Safeheron's self-custody platform.

Partnerships and Integrations

Safeheron announced a partnership with MetaMask in August 2022 alongside its Pre-Series A raise, integrating with the MetaMask Snaps system to enable MPC-based multi-factor authentication for institutional MetaMask users.

In June 2026, Safeheron announced a compliance integration with Elliptic, adding blockchain analytics screening across more than 50 blockchains and 250 cross-chain bridges into the self-custody workflow. In July 2026, the company added a parallel integration with Chainalysis for real-time AML intelligence during transaction authorization.

In 2025, crypto exchange BYDFi selected Safeheron to provide MPC and TEE key management infrastructure for its on-chain trading platform MoonX, targeting institutional and retail traders who wanted non-custodial execution. The partnership was independently covered by Decrypt and The Block.

Funding

Safeheron raised a $7 million Pre-Series A round in August 2022, led by Yunqi Partners and Web3Vision, with participation from PrimeBlock Ventures, M77 Ventures, ShataCapital, Antalpha Ventures, Waterdrip Capital, 7 O'Clock Capital, and Cobo Ventures. A subsequent undisclosed Seed round in April 2023 brought in HashKey Capital and Bixin Ventures. Total disclosed funding stands at approximately $9 million.

Compliance and Certifications

Safeheron holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification (most recently renewed in February 2025), SOC 2 Type I, and SOC 2 Type II (re-certified in May 2026). The platform carries custodial risk insurance through Lockton. Third-party security audits have been conducted by SlowMist (January 2025, covering the mobile app, web console, and browser extension), Kudelski Security, Least Authority, and Cure53.

Competitive Positioning

Safeheron competes in the institutional digital asset infrastructure market alongside Fireblocks, BitGo, Copper, Cobo, and Ledger Enterprise. Its stated differentiators are the fully open-source codebase — enabling verifiable security rather than relying on vendor assurances — and the genuine self-custody model where clients own all key material. Fireblocks, the dominant player by assets, operates a proprietary MPC implementation where key shares are not held exclusively by clients. Safeheron's dual MPC-plus-TEE architecture also distinguishes it from MPC-only peers.

Third-party comparison reviews note that certain capabilities — including auto sweep, AML integrations, and raw signing — are sold as paid add-ons rather than bundled features, and that self-hosted deployment is generally reserved for larger enterprise agreements.

Safeheron is positioned primarily for the Asian institutional market, with its Singapore headquarters and recent regulatory commentary focused on Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Korea, and UAE licensing frameworks. The company participated in Money20/20 Asia Bangkok 2026 and joined the Global Fintech Institute as a Bronze Corporate Patron in June 2026.
