Pipe Network

Pipe Network is a permissionless, decentralized full-stack cloud platform that replaces centralized content delivery infrastructure with a global mesh of independent nodes. Built on Solana and developed by Permissionless Labs, it targets the same market as Cloudflare, Fastly, and Akamai — routing content through community-operated Points of Presence (PoP) rather than corporate data centers.

Background and Team

Permissionless Labs, the core contributor behind Pipe Network, was founded by David Rhodus, a former engineer on Amazon Web Services' Elemental Cloud division. The broader team includes engineers from Palantir. The project raised $10 million in a Series A round in September 2024, backed by Multicoin Capital, Solana Ventures, and Robot Ventures, with Solana Labs co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko participating as an angel investor.

Pipe Network began testnet operations in early 2025 and launched its mainnet and native $PIPE token on October 8, 2025.

How It Works

The network's core building block is the hyperlocal Point of Presence (PoP) node — a lightweight server deployed close to end users, typically within approximately 50 miles. PoP nodes cache and serve content locally, targeting sub-10 millisecond latency. Node operators earn $PIPE rewards proportional to verified bandwidth and storage contributions, measured through the network's Proof-of-Useful-Work (PoUW) mechanism.

Data transfers are verified using zkTCP and zkQUIC, zero-knowledge cryptographic protocols that confirm successful transmission without exposing content. Verified proofs are recorded on Solana, where smart contracts handle payment settlement, node reward distribution, and governance — using Solana's sub-second finality for real-time on-chain coordination.

A software-defined overlay called the P1 network continuously measures latency across available paths and routes traffic along the fastest available route in real time, adapting dynamically as network conditions change.

Products

Pipe CDN is the primary content delivery service. Content providers upload assets to the network, which are cached across the PoP mesh and served to requesting users from the nearest available node.

Firestarter Storage is a decentralized origin storage layer integrated with the CDN. At mainnet launch, it was hosting Solana's full 1 petabyte block history and had accumulated 2.2 petabytes of total stored content within its first month of operation.

SolanaWave is a public block explorer API that leverages Solana's Proof of History dataset, distributed through Pipe's infrastructure.

SolanaCDN, launched on February 26, 2026, is a free, open-source Solana validator client built as a fork of Anza's Agave software. It adds a parallel CDN acceleration layer for shred delivery alongside standard gossip protocols, routing validator traffic through Pipe's global PoP mesh. According to Pipe Network's announcement, SolanaCDN achieves 3.8x faster block propagation than standard Turbine, reducing cross-region latency to approximately 78 milliseconds versus roughly 300 milliseconds on standard gossip. The client carries no fees and was positioned by the team as a public good for the broader Solana validator set.

Testnet and Mainnet Milestones

During the testnet phase through most of 2025, the network demonstrated substantial scale. At mainnet launch, Pipe Network reported that the testnet had processed more than 60 petabytes of content across approximately 290,000 PoP nodes globally, delivered over 1 billion files, and burned 2.5 million $PIPE testnet tokens. The team cited a 70% latency reduction and 100-times cost advantage relative to traditional CDN providers, based on testnet performance.

The $PIPE Token

$PIPE is a Solana SPL token with a fixed maximum supply of 1 billion. The token launched alongside mainnet on October 8, 2025, following a public CoinList sale in late June and early July 2025.

Token allocation at launch was distributed across community (33%), venture capital (20%), core contributors and Permissionless Labs (17%), ecosystem and treasury (10%), node operators (10%), and angel investors (10%). Emissions follow a PoUW model in which new tokens are minted only when verified network work is confirmed on-chain. Annual inflation starts at 12% and is designed to decline to a 1.5% floor over time.

Token utility covers four primary functions: payment for CDN bandwidth and storage services, node operator rewards, staking to mint LovePIPE (a liquid staking token yielding rewards), and governance participation. In October 2025, Pipe Network announced a partnership with [[PROJECT:228]] to support a liquid stake delegation program tied to LovePIPE.

The burn-mint mechanism governing service payments requires users to burn PIPE to generate Data Credits (DCs), the unit of account for bandwidth purchases, while node operators receive newly minted PIPE as reward for verified delivery.

Position in the Solana Ecosystem

Pipe Network sits at the intersection of DePIN infrastructure and Solana network tooling. As a DePIN project, it coordinates physical internet infrastructure — servers, bandwidth, storage — through on-chain incentives rather than corporate ownership. As a Solana-native project, it uses the chain as its coordination layer and extended that relationship outward with SolanaCDN, a tool that directly benefits Solana validator performance at no cost to the validator.

The team's stated competitive target is the traditional CDN and cloud market. At mainnet launch, Rhodus framed the milestone directly: "We see this mainnet launch as a signal that our decentralized CDN is ready to go live and compete against the offerings from Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai."
