Chakra Drive

Chakra Drive implements decentralized file storage through end-to-end encryption on Solana, enabling secure file management and sharing. The system uses Lit Protocol for encryption and Irys Network for storage while offering free usage up to 10GB.

Chakra

Chakra Labs entered the Solana ecosystem with an ambitious thesis: centralized data warehouses are fundamentally broken for users. Traditional platforms like Snowflake and Databricks generate revenue through vendor lock-in, long-term contracts, and data silos that inhibit the virality, monetizability, and discoverability of data. Chakra set out to build the first verifiable data warehouse — an alternative that moves the underlying infrastructure primitives of storage and compute onto community-owned networks.

The Problem With Existing Data Infrastructure

Legacy data warehouse providers deliberately make it difficult to retrieve or move data, capturing value from users rather than generating it alongside them. They charge heavy margins for services that, in Chakra's view, should be cheaper and more transparent. Chakra's core argument is that decentralizing storage and compute — rather than centralizing them for margin extraction — returns value to end users while making data more accessible, verifiable, and monetizable.

Chakra Drive: The First Launched Product

Chakra's initial live product is Chakra Drive, a decentralized file storage platform built on the Solana blockchain. Powered by Irys Network for on-chain storage and Lit Protocol for encryption, Chakra Drive offers free end-to-end encrypted file storage up to 10 GB per user. Users connect via a Solana wallet and fund uploads through their wallet balance, with Irys handling the underlying storage layer.

The technical stack is built in TypeScript with Next.js on the frontend, PostgreSQL and Prisma for metadata, and Solana RPC for wallet interactions and transaction signing. Private files are encrypted client-side before upload, with decryption keys managed through Lit Protocol, meaning Chakra itself cannot access user file contents.

Chakra Drive launched in October 2024 as a hackathon project and was recognized at the Solana Radar Hackathon in November 2024, where Chakra Labs placed among the winners and received $15,000 in USDC.

Data Studio and Creator Studio

Beyond Drive, Chakra's broader product roadmap includes a Data Studio — a data transformation and analytics platform using DuckDB as its query engine, designed to ingest, transform, and replicate data across sources including Postgres, Snowflake, and Databricks. The platform is positioned as a far cheaper alternative to enterprise data warehousing tools, with an open data marketplace that allows organizations to share structured datasets. Chakra added support for Anthropic's Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling users to query their data through AI tools like Claude without writing SQL.

A Creator Studio is also planned, targeting data creators who want to package and monetize structured datasets. At the time of Chakra Drive's launch, both Data Studio and Creator Studio were listed as coming soon.

Team and Funding

The founding team draws from a range of technical backgrounds, including alumni from Microsoft, Snap, Artemis, Tiplink, hedge funds, and MEV searchers — a mix of traditional data engineering expertise and crypto-native experience. Chakra has raised $10.1 million in funding from investors including Castle Island Ventures, Collab+Currency, Hash3, Race Capital, and the Solana Incubator, the latter reflecting the project's original alignment with the Solana ecosystem.

Current Direction

Since their Solana hackathon work in late 2024, Chakra Labs shifted its primary focus toward AI research infrastructure. By mid-2025, the company had rebranded around building the Frontier Data Laboratory — deterministic reinforcement learning environments, human computer-use trajectory datasets, and tooling for training computer use agents. Their Dojo platform, GLADOS-1 model, and a series of research publications on AI agent training reflect this pivot. The chakra.network domain now redirects to chakra.dev, their current AI-focused site.

Chakra Drive remains accessible on Solana, and the underlying infrastructure investment from the Solana Incubator indicates the team's original blockchain roots. However, the core data warehouse vision for Solana — including Data Studio and Creator Studio — has not launched as of mid-2026.
