BNKA
What Is BNKA?
BNKA is a regulated fintech platform built to solve a specific, persistent problem: Latin American migrants living in Europe struggle to manage money across two continents. They earn in euros, owe bills back home in Argentine pesos or Peruvian soles, and need to send money to families without losing a significant portion of each transfer to fees or unfavorable exchange rates.
Founded in 2023 and started out of Spain—home to one of Europe's largest South American diaspora communities—BNKA is registered in Lithuania as a Virtual Asset Service Operator (VASP), which allows it to operate across the entire European Union under shared regulatory frameworks. The platform describes itself as a "technological infrastructure platform" rather than a bank, partnering with licensed financial institutions to provide the underlying payment and custody services.
Core Product
At its center, BNKA provides a multi-currency digital wallet that users can open in under five minutes using only a native (non-EU) passport—a meaningful distinction for migrants who often face friction opening traditional European bank accounts. The onboarding process is entirely app-based, with no branch visits required.
Once registered, users receive a European IBAN for accepting salary payments, freelance income, or family transfers in euros. They are also issued an international Visa card accepted across Europe for everyday spending.
The wallet supports multiple currencies simultaneously:
- EUR (Euro) — the primary working currency for users living in Europe
- ARS (Argentine Peso) — for users with financial ties to Argentina
- PEN (Peruvian Sol) — for Peru-linked users
- COP (Colombian Peso) — for the Colombian diaspora
- USDT — the Tether stablecoin, providing a digital dollar option within the platform
Users hold balances across these accounts without being forced to convert immediately upon receipt. Conversion happens when the user chooses, at published real-time exchange rates, with zero additional fees during market hours.
BNKA SWAP and Stablecoin Integration
A feature called BNKA SWAP allows users to swap instantly between currencies in their wallet—converting euros or USDT to Argentine pesos or other supported currencies on demand. The USDT integration means users can receive or hold stablecoin balances and convert them into local-currency remittances, bypassing some of the friction and cost associated with traditional wire transfer corridors.
BNKA uses blockchain technology to track remittance transactions, providing users with transparent transaction trails across the payment chain. This positions the platform at the intersection of traditional fintech and the digital asset ecosystem—regulated as a VASP while serving a largely non-crypto-native customer base.
Bill Payments and Remittances
One of BNKA's most practically differentiated features is the ability to pay utility bills in Latin American countries directly from a European wallet. Users can settle electricity, water, gas, and internet invoices in Argentina—covering over 2,000 Argentine companies—without needing a separate local bank account or sending money to a relative to pay on their behalf. Payment is made by scanning a barcode or entering a customer number.
This bill-payment feature directly addresses a frequently reported friction point: more than 40 percent of migrants still carry financial obligations in their home countries, according to data cited by the platform.
For straightforward money transfers, BNKA offers same-day remittances to Latin America at published real-time exchange rates with no hidden fees.
Growth and Scale
By 2025, BNKA reported 75,000 active users across Europe and had facilitated over 45 million euros in transfers to Latin America, with more than 3.2 million euros processed in a single month. Earlier independent coverage from around its initial expansion phase cited the user base at 25,000 and total transaction volume near 5 million euros, indicating rapid growth over a short operating history.
The platform operates with presence across Madrid, Buenos Aires, Lima, Bogota, and Vilnius—reflecting both its origin markets and its European regulatory home.
Target Users
BNKA targets four broad user profiles:
- Expats living in Europe who regularly send money home or pay obligations in their countries of origin
- Freelancers who earn in euros via international clients and need to move money across currency jurisdictions
- Students abroad receiving family support in mixed currencies
- Remote workers earning in euros while spending partly in local-currency home markets
The product's emphasis on simple, document-light onboarding—accepting a native passport rather than requiring EU residency documentation—is a deliberate design choice to reach users who fall outside the typical European bank customer profile.
Regulatory Standing
BNKA's registration as a Virtual Asset Service Operator in Lithuania grants it passporting rights to offer services EU-wide under European digital asset regulatory frameworks. This allows the platform to hold and convert USDT alongside fiat currencies without operating as an unlicensed exchange. The platform emphasizes its regulated status prominently, positioning itself as a safer alternative to informal money transfer networks or unregulated peer-to-peer currency exchange.
Community and Content
BNKA maintains an active Spanish-language blog covering topics relevant to its user base: currency dynamics, how-to guides on platform features, financial planning around holidays, and guides tailored to the Peruvian and Colombian diasporas. In early 2026, the platform launched the BNKA Podcast, described as featuring real stories about money, migration, and life abroad—an effort to build community engagement alongside the core financial product.
