AiMo Network

AiMo Network is a decentralized AI infrastructure platform launched in 2025 with the stated goal of enabling trustless, permissionless access to AI capabilities on Solana and Base. The project combines two complementary layers: an open inference marketplace where machines and agents can pay per use for AI services without accounts or KYC, and a consumer ecosystem of AI companion agents, hardware wearables, and productivity tools designed to put user-owned AI into everyday life. Official documentation is maintained through GitBook at aimonetwork.gitbook.io, as the primary aimo.network domain was not resolving at the time of research.

The Infrastructure Layer: Permissionless AI Inference

At its core, AiMo Network operates as a permissionless AI inference router—described by the team as an "OpenRouter for on-chain agents." Where traditional AI services require real names, credit cards, geographic compliance, and manual account approvals, AiMo strips away those prerequisites, allowing autonomous agents, developers, and global users to purchase AI computation directly through cryptographic transactions. The platform frames this shift as moving AI from a "membership-based model into a pay-per-use vending machine."

The network's architecture is organized into three layers:

Routing Layer: Receives requests and directs them to the appropriate model, tool, or API endpoint. The initial deployment runs a single-node router, with plans to expand into a distributed "API oracle" spanning multiple blockchains.

Settlement Layer: All usage settles on-chain in USDC on Solana or Base. Providers receive instant wallet credits rather than waiting on monthly invoicing cycles. This layer integrates the HTTP 402 (x402) payment standard, which enables machine-to-machine micropayments where an AI agent can autonomously identify the model it needs, have the routing layer find the optimal endpoint, and settle payment on-chain before receiving results—no human approval required at any step.

Asset Layer (Planned): AI services will be representable as ERC-8004 NFTs embedding endpoint information and metadata. These service NFTs can be traded or composed, creating a marketplace for AI capabilities that treats inference endpoints as ownable, transferable on-chain assets.

The x402 integration is central to AiMo's design. The HTTP 402 status code—historically a reserved placeholder in the web protocol stack—has been repurposed by the x402 standard to signal machine-readable payment requirements. AiMo uses this mechanism to make AI inference natively purchasable by autonomous agents without any human intermediary in the loop.

The Consumer Ecosystem: AI Companion Agents

Alongside the infrastructure layer, AiMo's consumer side centers on AI companion agents brought to life through NFTs. The project identifies three core products that together are intended to form a full-stack "Consumer DePIN + AI Ecosystem":

AiMo Agent NFT: Minting an AiMo NFT creates more than a digital collectible—it instantiates a standalone AI agent owned entirely by the user. Each NFT carries a Decentralized Identifier (DID) through which the agent maintains its on-chain identity. The documentation frames this as "bringing to life the soul of your own intelligent companion AI," with agents that grow more personalized through ongoing interaction. A Genesis NFT Collection has been announced, though full minting details were pending at the time of writing.

AiMo Agent App: A mobile and desktop application that positions the AI companion as a personal productivity layer—handling note-taking, content organization, and autonomous task execution on behalf of the user. The app is the primary interface through which users interact with their AiMo agent in daily contexts, with planned integration of wearable hardware for expanded functionality.

AiMo Smart Wearables: A forthcoming hardware product described as an "AI-native Smart Badge"—a small physical device wearable as a phone attachment, necklace, or clothing pin. The wearable extends the AI companion into the physical world, collecting context and delivering assistance without requiring a screen. This component places AiMo within the broader decentralized physical infrastructure (DePIN) trend, where blockchain-coordinated networks of hardware devices contribute to a shared service layer rather than a centralized cloud platform.

The Amico Framework

Underpinning both the consumer and infrastructure layers is Amico, an open-source AI agent framework written entirely in Rust. Amico V2—a complete rewrite of V1—is designed as a platform-agnostic runtime capable of running on operating systems, browsers, mobile devices, and embedded hardware. Its architecture spans four layers: Application and Event Handlers for business logic, a Workflows layer for preset execution patterns (including ReAct), a Runtime layer for workflow execution, and a Models and System layer providing model abstraction and tooling.

Amico's design emphasizes zero-cost abstractions through Rust traits and generics rather than dynamic dispatch, alongside type-safe compile-time verification. The framework includes a provider-neutral model interface inspired by Vercel's AI SDK, making it straightforward to swap underlying AI model providers without restructuring agent logic. V2 was in the design phase as of mid-2025, with architecture and core traits defined but implementation still underway.

AiMo also publishes plugin-aimo-router, a provider plugin for ElizaOS. ElizaOS has become one of the most widely adopted agent development frameworks in the Solana ecosystem, and the plugin lets elizaOS developers route inference requests through AiMo's routing and settlement infrastructure without building custom payment logic. This positions AiMo as infrastructure that other agent builders can drop into existing workflows rather than a closed platform.

Blockchain Alignment

AiMo is deployed across Solana and Base. Solana provides the high-throughput, low-fee environment suited to per-inference micropayments, while Base extends the protocol's reach to the Ethereum ecosystem. Payments flow in USDC, keeping settlement costs predictable and avoiding the volatility of a project-native token for operational transactions.

Status and Ecosystem Fit

AiMo Network is an early-stage project founded in January 2025. As of mid-2025, the platform had launched an open beta including the AiMo App with a 20% usage rebate incentive distributed as 15% in points and 5% in weekly USDC withdrawals. Smart Wearables remained in pre-announcement phase pending presale details.

The project occupies a specific intersection of two active Solana narratives: the AI agent economy (where autonomous agents need to purchase services and pay other agents programmatically) and consumer DePIN (where user-owned hardware and software replace centralized platform subscriptions). The Amico framework's Rust foundation and the protocol's Solana-first design align with the ecosystem's emphasis on performance-oriented infrastructure.
