ElizaOS
ElizaOS is an open-source, TypeScript-based operating system for autonomous AI agents, purpose-built to bridge large language models with blockchain infrastructure. Launched in October 2024 by Shaw Walters under the Eliza Labs organization, the framework emerged as the first open-source web3-native agentic platform, enabling developers to deploy agents that can interact with decentralized applications, execute onchain transactions, and operate across social platforms with persistent memory and configurable personalities.
Origins and Rebrand
The project began under the name "ai16z" — a deliberate play on the name of Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), the prominent venture capital firm. The original $ai16z token launched alongside the framework in October 2024 and, at its peak, achieved a market capitalization of approximately $2.4 billion, making it one of the largest AI agent tokens by valuation. Trademark objections from Andreessen Horowitz forced a rebrand, and in January 2025 the project formally became ElizaOS.
In October 2025, Eliza Labs announced a token migration from $ai16z to $elizaOS. The migration window ran from November 6, 2025 through February 4, 2026, at a swap ratio of approximately 1 $ai16z to 6 $elizaOS tokens. The new $elizaOS token carried a hard cap of 11 billion tokens with no ongoing emissions, distributed across community (75%), team and contributors (10%), and SAFT investors (15%). The migration also made $elizaOS multichain by leveraging Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), enabling the token to function across Solana, Ethereum, Base, and Binance Smart Chain.
Technical Architecture
ElizaOS is organized as a monorepo-based TypeScript framework built around four architectural pillars:
- Unified Message Bus: A single event pipeline supporting multiple transport layers — Discord, Telegram, X (formerly Twitter), HTTP, and onchain channels. Agents are written once and can be deployed to any interface by swapping the transport layer, eliminating redundant code across platforms.
- Composable Swarms: A "Worlds and Rooms" structure that maintains individual agent context while enabling inter-agent signaling for delegation, consensus building, and load balancing across agent networks.
- Strategic Action Chaining: LLM-driven tool orchestration that supports branching logic, parallel execution, scheduled tasks, and user-input pauses, enabling complex multi-step automated workflows.
- Modular Plugin System: Every capability — from model providers and vector stores to social network adapters and custom onchain actions — is packaged as an npm plugin, allowing developers to compose agents without vendor lock-in.
The framework ships more than 90 official plugins, with community contributions expanding the ecosystem to over 200 total plugins. Supported blockchains include Solana, Ethereum, Base, and Binance Smart Chain. The Solana plugin gives agents the ability to read and write blockchain data, interact with smart contracts, manage wallets, and execute DeFi operations directly. The SAID Protocol, developed within the ElizaOS ecosystem, provides verifiable on-chain digital identities for AI agents on Solana — a foundational layer for multi-agent economies that require provable agent identity.
Ecosystem and Adoption
By mid-2026, ElizaOS had accumulated more than 5,300 GitHub forks, over 1,350 contributors, and supported more than 50,000 autonomous agents deployed across its supported networks. Documented use cases span AI influencers, autonomous trading bots, DAO governance agents, customer support systems, gaming NPCs, DevOps automation, and academic research assistants.
Notable integrations and partnerships include Chainlink for cross-chain interoperability via CCIP, Nosana for GPU infrastructure through its Builders' Challenge (March 2026), and the Stanford Future of Digital Currency Initiative for research collaboration. In April 2025, Eliza Labs launched Auto.fun, a no-code platform enabling non-developers to deploy Web3 AI agents without writing code, broadening access beyond the TypeScript developer base.
Token Collapse
Despite the framework's technical trajectory, the ELIZAOS token experienced a severe collapse through 2026. A federal class action lawsuit alleged that the project had misrepresented itself as an "autonomous, AI-run venture fund" while insiders retained control, and claimed token holders were diluted by the supply expansion during the ai16z-to-elizaOS migration. By August 2026, the Eliza Foundation transferred its remaining treasury to settle with the plaintiffs. The token, which had peaked at a $2.4 billion market cap as ai16z, fell approximately 97% to trade near $0.00031 with a market cap of roughly $2.3 million. Founder Shaw Walters declared the token "completely dead" on August 5, 2026.
Current Status
Walters simultaneously committed to continuing development of the underlying open-source software without launching another token. GitHub repositories within the elizaOS organization showed active commits as recently as August 8, 2026, with 408 open issues and 83 active pull requests in the main eliza repository. The framework shipped three consecutive beta releases in late June 2026 alone. Commercial adoption continues independently of the token: Secure Blockchain Development Corp completed a development agreement with the Eliza Foundation to build Agentic SME, a white-label commercial product for business automation, with a mid-August 2026 launch target.
The divergence between a collapsed token and an actively developed framework defines ElizaOS's current state. The MIT-licensed open-source codebase remains one of the most-forked AI agent frameworks on GitHub, with production deployments across Solana and other networks. For developers building autonomous agents with Solana integration, ElizaOS continues to function as a leading open-source foundation — its onchain capabilities, plugin ecosystem, and multi-agent architecture intact, separate from the fate of its associated token.
