Solana Processes 76% of All x402 AI Agent Transactions, 23.2 Million in Four Weeks
Solana handled 23.2 million x402 AI agent transactions in four weeks, 76% of all network activity and nearly 7x the second-largest chain, per Artemis data.
Solana SOL$117.02+1.9% carried 76% of all x402 AI agent payment transactions in the four-week window ending September 22, according to Artemis analytics data cited by the official Solana account. The network processed 23.2 million transactions, nearly seven times the 3.39 million logged by the second-largest network.
The figures arrive as the x402 field is widening. On September 21, the Cardano Foundation announced that Cardano had been added to the official x402 software kit, joining Solana, XRP Ledger, and several Ethereum-compatible networks that already support the standard. Cardano's TypeScript implementation has completed a test transaction on its pre-production network but has not yet run on mainnet or processed commercial-scale volume. That makes Solana's 23.2 million the benchmark against which every new entrant is now measured.
How the x402 Market Breaks Down
x402 repurposes the web's long-dormant HTTP 402 status code to let AI agents pay for APIs, data, and cloud services per-request in USDC (USDC) without accounts, subscriptions, or manual billing. Coinbase cbBTC$85,911.64+3.0% created the protocol in 2025 and contributed it to the Linux Foundation, which launched the x402 Foundation as a formal standards body in July 2026 with Visa, Stripe, Google, and AWS among its 17 premier members.
The x402 protocol dashboard reports 75.41 million total transactions and $24.24 million in payment volume across all chains over the most recent 30-day period. Solana's 23.2 million in four weeks implies roughly 5.8 million transactions per week. That is more than double the weekly pace visible in August's data, when Solana held approximately 70% of monthly x402 volume and AI agents settled $3.3 million USDC in a single week on the network.
Why Solana's Share Has Grown as More Chains Join
Four weeks ago Solana's monthly x402 share stood at roughly 70%. The rise to 76% across a period in which Cardano joined and additional EVM chains were already participating points to a consolidation effect: overall protocol volume is growing, and a disproportionate share of that growth is going to Solana.
The structural reasons are visible in where x402's enterprise integrations actually run. Ramp's corporate AI wallet program for 70,000-plus businesses, AWS CloudFront's pay-per-AI-crawler integration, and Messari and Nansen's paid data services all settle on Solana. These programs were in place before the current four-week window and account for a large share of the base volume.
On September 18, Coinbase upgraded its Solana facilitator with support for the upto payment scheme (which lets a server charge up to a stated ceiling rather than a fixed amount) and cut payment verification latency by 66%. That is a direct throughput improvement for high-frequency agent transactions, and it landed four days before the Artemis data was published.
Solana's technical profile also fits what x402 agents need. Sub-400 millisecond finality and per-transaction costs well under a cent mean that even a $0.001 API call remains economically viable; on a slower or higher-fee chain, the settlement cost erodes the value of the payment itself.
Cardano's ambition is to place ADA and Cardano-issued tokens wherever developers choose to build machine-economy applications. Whether it translates to meaningful throughput depends on the application layer that forms once its implementation reaches mainnet. For now, the field is still being won at the settlement layer, and that layer remains overwhelmingly Solana.
