Virtuals Protocol Opens AI Agent Ownership to Solana Users, Sets August 24 Date
Virtuals Protocol sets August 24 to open AI agent ownership to Solana users. VIRTUAL has 28,000+ holders on Solana across 18 months of cross-chain integration.
Virtuals VIRTUAL$0.552+7.6% Virtuals Protocol announced August 24 as the date it will open AI agent ownership to Solana users. Published on August 23, the announcement stated that "millions more people can own a working agent, and put it to work where the internet trades."
The date marks a step beyond what Virtuals has already built on Solana. Bridged to Solana via LayerZero in early 2025, the VIRTUAL token established a foundation that Virtuals expanded with a Solana agent creation launchpad and a Base-Solana asset bridge in June 2026. On-chain, VIRTUAL currently has 28,212 holders on Solana as of August 23, with roughly $210,000 in daily trading volume and a $17.3 million market cap. August 24 targets the broader Solana user base rather than protocol developers, shifting from agent creation to agent ownership as the accessible entry point.
What AI Agent Ownership on Virtuals Involves
On Virtuals Protocol, users hold fractional stakes in autonomous AI agents that operate on-chain. Each agent runs on the protocol's EconomyOS layer, which provides a persistent identity, a non-custodial wallet, and configurable permissions for executing transactions. Trading fees on agent tokens are set at 1%, with 70% going to the agent creator and 30% to the Virtuals treasury. When an agent token's bonding curve accumulates 42,000 VIRTUAL in liquidity, it graduates to a liquidity pool, with LP tokens locked for ten years.
Agent ownership separates owners from builders: owners hold a stake in an agent's economic activity and receive a share of its trading revenue, without deploying or maintaining the agent themselves. The protocol's Agent Commerce Protocol (ACP) allows agents to transact and coordinate autonomously with other agents in the network.
The Virtuals iOS App as the Consumer Interface
Alongside the protocol, Virtuals launched a consumer iOS app on August 14, updated to version 1.0.1 on August 22. The app integrates agent interaction into a social chat format. Users can hold a wallet, monitor real-time token and stock prices, interact with the Butler AI agent, and direct agents to execute transfers and other financial actions within conversations.
Virtuals Protocol's Solana Buildout Since Early 2025
Virtuals Protocol originated on Base, where it built the infrastructure for the current agent economy. The Solana agent launchpad it opened in early 2025 produced uneven results: some agent tokens maintained consistent trading activity while others went quiet after the initial launch window.
Full product details for the August 24 launch had not been published by Virtuals as of this writing; the company's blog was inaccessible at publication time.
