Solana Claims Top Spot on x402 as AI Agents Settle $3.3M USDC in a Single Week
AI agents settled $3.3M USDC on Solana via x402 in a single week. Solana now leads all x402 chains by activity, carrying roughly 70% of monthly protocol volume.
AI agents settled $3.3 million in USDC on Solana SOL$101.49-0.6%Solana via the x402 protocol in a single week, according to a CryptoBriefing report published August 24. Solana now leads all x402-supported chains by transaction activity, processing approximately 70% of the protocol's monthly transaction volume, per the same report.
Over the prior 90 days, x402 logged 5.1 million total transfers on Solana, per CryptoBriefing. The week ending August 24 accounted for roughly 65% of that cumulative total, per the same report. That volume compression into a single week followed RampRamp's August 20 integration. As covered three days before, Ramp brought more than 70,000 business customers onto x402 AI agent wallets on Solana, enabling AI agents to spend USDC against corporate budgets without manual authorization per transaction.
x402 Volume on Solana and Across All Chains
The x402.org dashboard shows 75.41 million transactions and $24.24 million in volume across all supported chains for the 30 days ending August 24. The protocol had 94,060 active buyers and 22,000 active sellers in that window. Typical transactions settle for under $0.50 per CryptoBriefing, with no protocol fees.
CryptoBriefing reports cumulative x402 transactions on Solana at 35 million, reflecting the network's total since the protocol launched on the chain. The 70% monthly volume share puts Solana well ahead of all other x402 chains.
BlockRunAI, Ramp, and What Is Driving the Volume
Two services account for a significant share of Solana's x402 activity. BlockRunAI, an AI-native trading service, is cited by CryptoBriefing as one of the leading contributors. Ramp's integration, which went live three days before the data snapshot, brought the single largest expansion of potential x402 users on Solana to date.
The two services reflect different adoption patterns. Ramp's integration embeds x402 wallets directly into corporate spend software, so any AI agent a business deploys can draw on pre-authorized USDCUSDC budgets with full audit trails, with no per-transaction approval required. BlockRunAI operates as an AI-native consumer service, where agents consume market data, signals, and analytics at the point of use, paying as they go.
Both are consistent with the economics x402 enables at scale on Solana. Sub-cent fees and sub-second settlement let agents pay for data as they consume it rather than managing subscriptions or API credits.
How x402 Processes Machine Payments
x402 is an open payment standard built on the HTTP 402 status code, a status the web reserved for machine payments decades ago and left unused. When an AI agent requests a resource from an x402-enabled server, the server responds with a 402 status containing the price, a receiving address, and accepted tokens. The agent parses the response, signs a USDC transaction, and retries the request with the payment proof in the header. The server verifies and delivers the resource.
No checkout flow, no API key management, no clearing delay. Coinbase cbBTC$77,560.79+0.4%Coinbase open-sourced the standard and is a founding member of the x402 Foundation, which the Linux Foundation launched in July alongside the Solana Foundation, Visa, Stripe, and Cloudflare as members of a formal open-standards body for machine payments.
Why Enterprise Builders Concentrated x402 Activity on Solana
Solana's x402 position reflects a year-long accumulation of enterprise and infrastructure integrations. AWS CloudFront's x402 integration in June let publishers charge AI crawlers per-request in USDC, establishing the publisher-to-agent payment pattern. The Linux Foundation's x402 Foundation launch in July with the Solana Foundation, Visa, Stripe, and Cloudflare as members formalized the standard's governance. Ramp's August integration brought 70,000-plus businesses onto the network at once.
The $3.3 million weekly USDC figure on Solana alone, set in the week following Ramp's launch, shows enterprise-grade integrations converting to real transaction throughput at scale.
Solana's sub-second settlement and sub-cent fees are the practical reason x402 infrastructure has concentrated here. A single AI agent running a multi-step workflow can settle ten or twenty x402 micropayments in a session without those payments becoming a friction point or a meaningful cost center. That is what the $3.3 million weekly figure reflects.
